  1. I haven't been back to the forum in a long while as I have been quite busy with life, so in the last couple weeks i have gotten rid of my Prizm and picked up an A6 Avant (wagon) today. It has the factory Bose radio system already, so for now I will be using my factory radio. I just ordered the "keys" to remove the radio and later in this coming week I will order a hi/low converter. I found a Boss one online for 10 bucks (good idea?). I also picked up a Memphis Audio 16M1000d. Speaker is a Soundqubed HDC3.0 12"  And for right now it's in a 1.8 cubic foot slot ported box tuned to 29 hz. I have a few pics of the car itself to start off my build log, and will try to update as often as possible. I'm taking this opportunity to do it the right way since I kinda did whatever it took in my geo lol. Let the fun begin!

  2. Btw I didnt post a screenshot of my final decision, just went right ahead with it. According to the program the gross should be about 5.0ft^3 and the net is 3.9, aimed for 34hz. And silicone caulked it (i learned my lesson the hard way with regular caulk lol)

And when i decide to upgrade my speaker I feel like this box will be able to keep up, so i might end up even getting some carpet for it.

  3. I don't get a lot of it yet and this is only my second build but I feel a lot more accomplished this time. A friend of mine will be able to tell me what my peak is this sunday but Im really happy for now, especially being able to pull the box in/out of the car and it gets low really nice now with the 4" port as opposed to 2.5

  4. After comparing torres to the RE calc, I realized that it was off (re) by a lot more than I had expected. About an entire cubic foot off. So I think now would be a good time to build a new box. The main question I have is in reference to the "Port Top/Bottom" measurement, I'm not sure where the 4.50" comes from? I'm also not quite sure about how a slot port with no bend's would act since I don't think i've seen many people build one without bends. Main goal is to have the Hifonics brz15 laying face up and the port facing either the trunk or in the cabin, and to be removable (the box). Are there any real advantages to an inward facing port? I've heard that you would want your port facing the trunk so it can resonate through the body of the car but I don't know how big of a difference it really makes.
With any kind of a guess i would say the box I built going by RE is almost 5 cubes. I think that might have something to do with it not hitting great lows? It responds best between 33 and 48.. I think I can get much more out of it but I want to do it as right as possible this time lol.

  5. Basically what im asking is that if I want to add another 15, I will build a new aero-ported box. What is a good way to estimate how much volume i should have? One of my 15's requires 3.5-4 optimal ported volume, i was thinking about increasing to 6.5-7.5 for two? Having a 12 ft^3 trunk really sucks sometimes...

  6. This isnt one of my first topics but my first on the sign in board lol. I'm currently documenting my project as it goes along, but when I start my third re-build I'll start an official build log if I like it enough to post. Looking forward to meeting more members from the delaware/tristate area as well as more competitions/shows!

  7. Hopefully ill be seeing you again in glen burnie, and I'll be asking about your current box. If the price is right i'd love to have that for my brutus! It's a tad bit smaller than mine but I have a feeling it will sound a bit nicer as well, and it'll fit a hell of a lot better in my tiny trunk!

  8. My 15 will be here today, and ive spent the last week drawing up designs but before i commit to any, does anyone have a more accurate box calc than Re.com? My friend used it and his came out nearly a 1/4 cubic foot bigger and tuned like 4~hz higher than what re box calc told him.

  9. I've been considering getting one of these subs but I am curious, I'm hoping that they are under rated a bit. And i know it is generally a good idea to over power the subs rather than chance clipping the amp, and I know how quality they are so I must ask will I be safe running one DCON on an Alpine MRP-M650 at 600w? I know that I can always gain down the amp but does anyone think they'd be alright at nearly full power?

  10. Hello world, after much research and consideration I have finally decided to become an SSA consumer, I plan on buying a DCON series 15in to run with an Alpine MRP-M650.
I plan on designing and building a custom ported enclosure for the sub, and this yields the question, what is the recommended volume for said enclosure? I know the SSA Store gives recommended box dimensions, and I have seen them for the DCON 12, but the fields are empty for the 15 D:
Any help is appreciated. My guess would be somewhere around 3-4 cubes? But it's my first build so I feel like I need some reassurance. Thanks
