  1. I'm like everyone else, just trying to get the best deal, and I can't decide on 2 amps right now. The sundown is more expensive, but I use to own a soundstream a while back and never had any issues with it. What would you guys choose, i will pay more for better quality, but maybe they are both very close. Thanks all.

  2. OK, he has a 5-year old Power 6001bd. I guess it is only 2 ohm stable. Might work at 1, but I'm not going to risk it. Thankfully he didn't get the subs yet, so I'll have him order 2 4ohm 10's then. Thanks for all your comments.

  3. you should really make sure his existing enclosure will be ok the for dcon as not to damage them. personally i would like to see u build him one to spec. if your capable.

If I can't build a new one for him, and if the enclosure is too large, I'll just fill it with something to take up the space needed. I've already told him not to crank it when he first gets them, and let me make the necessary adjustments.

  4. I couldn't find a current RF 6001d, they do have a 700-1bd, and that is one ohm stable. Could you get the model and year for us?

I'll ask he tomorrow. I couldn't find it either, but I'm almost 100% sure it is 1 ohm stable. Also, he has a custom enclosure that was built, and kind of large for 10's also. I've made plenty of boxes, so if he would let me, I would definitely build a ported enclosure from him. the way the setup is now in a Cadillac trunk, it is already wasting space. I highly doubt the installer knew what they were doing. The box is right in the middle of the trunk where the spare tire was, and the subs are pointing up. Some of the enclosure is in the spare tire well also. the amps are mounted flush to the back seats.

I personally would have had the subs facing the back, up against the back seat, and the amps somewhere else. Thanks for all the replies, very reassuring. Not that it means much either, but based off of winisd, the dcon should play lower, and with the better match to the amp, there should be an overall db increase of 4db's.

  5. I have a buddy that had someone put his system together and they put in RF P1 10's. How much better would it be to recommend a DCON instead (SQ and SPL)? One thing also, is the P1's are single 4 ohm and he has a 600d1 or something, so my guess is 600rms at 1ohm. right off the bat, I would think the DCON's would be better, because he can get them in dual 4's, and run it at 1 ohm. (he does have 2 10's) Any experiance would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to look like an idiot if I gave him the wrong answer.

  6. Just ran the specs for each sub through winisd. I know it isn't accurate for the end result, but just based on what I saw, the response is very similar. i believe winisd is fairly accurate as far as low power goes, so i would say around 600rms the AV has a slight edge in output and low end. Of course the xcon has a larger coil so it can take a bit more power, and i think this is where it is going to get tough for me. I have no way to listen to both subs, as i don't have the funds to buy both and do a comparison for myself. So hopefully i can get enough input from you all to help me out.

Like i said, i'm looking more for SQ, so which ever is going to be more accurate, I'm going to lean towards. If the xcon has the same or very close to the AV's performance, I would think I may get the xcon. I would love to get a true underhung driver, but I'm finding it very difficult, to find the specs I'm looking for.

Hopefully, i can get some more input. Also, here is the link to the driver for people not familiar with the AV series. AE Speakers Online Store

  7. The Xcon is an over hung long coil design, with a shorting ring. An "SQ" biased driver, but on a massive scale with very strong output and nice Xmax. :)

what is the inductance of the xcon? ideally for my peace of mind, i'm looking for something that has an Le of less than 1.

  8. I haven't had a sub in over a year now, and I miss that portion of my music. I'm very picky when it comes to my subs. I've just stumbled upon the xcon, and i've just about had my mind made up on the AE AV12x or h. I've heard nothing but good things about the AV's, but I came across the xcon. What topology is the driver (ie underhung, overhung, etc..) the magnet reminds me of my old Audiomobile MASS 2012, which i absolutely loved, and regret getting rid of it. The MASS was damn near dead on perfect. I've always leaned more towards SQ, rather than SPL, but I do like to crank it up at times. I love the low, low bass just as much as mid to upper bass. i'm looking at getting a 12 again, just to save on a bit of space, and also going sealed. i've tried SPL and it is fun, but at this point in my life, it would just be for showing off, and nothing more. So, I need something precise.

What is the Le of the xcon?

  9. The Havoc does it all! Lots of output, razor sharp SQ, looks good, doesn't cost 4 figures, and is very reliable. But I've always felt that the 2 cu ft ported box was a little big and put a little too much emphasis on the low end. The sub will get low, the question you should ask is how much do I need from 65hz+.

Just wondering what you meant by this statement. I have been finding a ton of drivers I have been using lately sealed, will not get above 63hz. I need something that will get to around 72hz. Is this possible with the Havoc? Also, I think I have asked this before, but do you know the Le?

Keep in mind....the enclosure behaves as a highpass filter; with both sealed and bass reflex (ported) systems, the enclosure only has an effect on low frequency performance. If you are having a perceived problem with upper frequency performance, you need to address the vehicle acoustics by eq'ing down the bottom end or by selecting a driver with less inductance and inductance variation.

I completely understand how an enclosure has an effect on FR, and a low inductance driver is something I'm trying to find. I've been looking at the new Mag, but I would like to find something similar, that has a bit more xmax (linear). That is why asked if anyone knew the Le of this driver.
