Thank you for the compliments guys. I am very happy with the way it is turning out. I definitely wanted a stout enclosure since the ethos is such a beast and I think this will do.

Well it has been a great day. Made a ton of progress on the enclosure and got an email notification from dss that my ethos has shipped. As for the enclosure I got everything but the back and one side done. I got the braces screwed in and clamped. I didn't want to screw them to the front in fear of the larger screws for the double baffle would crack them. I will get some better pics when the clamps are removed in the morning.

While we were in town I stopped at Home Depot and found some fasteners I believe will give me the strength needed for the ethos. The are construction grade spax #14 fasteners. I have read they bite really well and the I fact they have the equivelant strength of grade 5 hardware made me feel comfortable trusting them.

Got a little work done this morning before we have to run into town. I got the front and back cut. Then I glued and screwed the front double baffle. I will be removing the screws after it drys.

Thanks sencheezy. It really isn't that bad. Just wish it was perfect. Lol. On a side note I got more wood, glue and screws today. Can't wait to get this build moving.

Well just got done routing and sanding the brace. I am honestly not to happy with the out come, but plan to use it because of the amount of work involved. Plus once the enclosure is assembled you won't be able to see it. It looks a bit sloppy and wavy. I assume it is because I had to use the dreaded jigsaw to cut out the openings. This caused the round over to look wavy. Oh well it's very sturdy and will serve its purpose.

Completely Audio unrelated.... but fun none the less!!

Awesome score. Those little 250's are a blast.

Those connectors are really cool. I will have to do a bit more research on them. Curious to know how much pore they can handle. Thank you. I have toned it down a bit since that video with a resonator. Towing our rzr was brutal with that loud of an exhaust.

    Zero Ethos motors left.

Wow that's a lot of woofers! Looks like the word on the ethos is traveling quickly.

    Zero Ethos motors left.

So glad I rushed and placed my order! I would have been so disappointed to have to wait until October. It's already in the negative degrees by then up here.

Thank you. As for the seat it will remain installed. I designed the enclosure to fit in the 40 split with it folded up. This way if I needed to have access to the extra seat it is just a matter of disconnect wiring and set it in the garage. At the rate I am going I predict by the end of next summer the seat will be coming out for more cone area. Lol. At the moment I just couldn't commit to that.

Well I got a little more done today. The first brace is cut out, but still needs quite a bit of finish work. Had to stop so I can go to work. Can't wait to get more wood to start making the big pieces. I am just utilizing scraps I have laying around right now.

Thanks for the complements everyone. Started working on one of the braces yesterday but my drill is finally dying after 10 years. So trying to drill the corners out with a hole saw is taking some time.
  18. Hello everyone. I was searching around and ran across the 15" ethos and it has really caught my eye. Looks like a great quality woofer and the fact that it likes small enclosures is awesome. I have been wanting a 15" but couldn't seem to find enough room for one because most seem to like 4 cu ft. Now on to my question. I was reading on the dss site that the recommended enclosure is a 3 cu ft tuned to 32 hz. What threw me off was the suggested port area of 75 in sq. I understand all woofers are different and require a different amount, but this seems like a lot. My question is would I be able to reduce the amount of port area by some without any negative effects on SQ and if so by how much? I really like the looks of this woofer but I don't think I will have enough space if it needs that much port area. This will be for just one 15" in a daily set up. My goal is a lot of output while sounding great doing it. Thank you on advance.

Question about 15" ethos port area?

Thanks guys. I can't wait for it to get here. I plan to start building the enclosure this weekend.

Question about 15" ethos port area?

I'm so excited! Just placed my order with DSS for a 2 ohm 15" ethos. Also just finished up getting my table saw tuned in for the new enclosure build. I have always known it wasn't dialed in perfect but this build deserves that type of attention to details.

dang man, your set up looks painful. You weren't kidding when you said how versatile the ethos is.

Sweet I wish I could order it today. Hopefully you still have 1 on Monday.

Question about 15" ethos port area?

Awesome, thanks for the input Quentin. I liked the first designs lower height better anyways. If all goes as planed, I will place my order Monday.

Question about 15" ethos port area?

Thank you. I may change it again. Lol. I figured out a way to get the port area up to 63 in2 by adding an inch in height. It also got me right at 3 cu ft net instead of the larger 3.3 cu ft. Only thing I don't like is it made the port pretty long. Is 48" in port length going to cause any negative effects on the performance? Sorry i have never needed a port that long so I am just curious. I may just stick with the original design. This enclosure will still be the same design just tweeked a bit.

Question about 15" ethos port area?

Thanks man. My guess is your team members are in anchorage. Not to many bass heads up here in Fairbanks. It would be awesome if there were some members up here though. Thanks. I am so excited I found the ethos. I honestly gave up on trying to fit a 15". That's why previously I decided on the 12. I will be sure to post a review after I get it all broken in. Another question I have for all of you is what type of fasteners are you using to support your ethos. It is the heaviest/largest woofer I will have ever owned so I am just curious. I have seen a lot of positive comments about the spax fasteners. I have also seen a lot about using t nuts, but they honestly make me nervous.
