  1. Got the box in, don't have any pics yet as my batteries in the cam are dead. Sounds great though...and might be hitting you up for a few more builds...toying with the idea of a 2nd hdc318.

Will get some pics up shortly...things just got slapped in the truck in a hurry so it doesn't look the best currently.

  2. You may not gain any spl, or you might even lose a little by going sealed, but I think that your bass will definitely tighten up, and sound much better overall.
If I'm going to go through the trouble of adding another 18" & doubling the power, I better see a bit of an improvement in output, lol.

With what you've attained with one ported, it would be very tempting to see what 2 ported could do. A wall is a big step, but this isn't your daily driver is it?

  3. or have the new one fade for 8-9 months then you'll have matched woofers B)

    kiddin'

thought it, but didn't want to be the one to say it. Could be close to matching by summertime :/

Invert is a nice idea. The silver vein baskets on these subs are damn sexy

  4. Is the clearcoating something that I can do? Would it hurt anything?

The cones are anodized so they shouldn't oxidize much at all, aslong as they were sealed as part of the anodizing process.

I'm guessing its actually sun fade. How much sun does the sub get on a daily basis?

  5. Outside of the chalazion and hard drive problems it sounds like you've had a heck of a last month. Gotta take those good times, it keeps everything in good perspective. A string of 10 rocks shows is definately a good way to take some time.

    Welcome back man

  6. thats cool what kinda motorcycle you bought?. well it will be a nice system when done..

    Aloha

Bought a buell xb9sx, already have a yamaha roadstar. Ridin is my main hobby, so another reason my stereo setups take so long. I'm sure it will be good when its done though, it will just be a while. I've gotten slower in my old age.

  7. so any new updates and pics on your project....

    Aloha

unfortunately not man. With buyin the HO alt, pickin up license plates for the truck and the new motorcycle I bought, I'm pretty far down on money. Gotta save my money for Christmas so my nephews get the good stuff this year :)

Its been cold as crap here lately. I probably won't be picking up deadener for the back wall until after christmas when I can get into a heated shop to put it in.

Sucks that I'm only down deadener, a few batteries, some wire, and some wood right now. Not in a hurry though, will pick it back up after christmas.

  8. i have 2 fi d1 bl 18's and i was wonderin if it would be better to run 1 saz 3000d or to strap a pair of sundown 1500's?

From what I've seen here, power difference would not be noticeable between 2 strapped 1500's and a 3000 at their preferred loads. With your dual 1 coils you would have to run the two 1500's strapped at 1 ohm which would mean no warranty, or the 3000 at 1 ohm which would be more efficient and keep you in warranty. The single 3000 would be an easier cleaner install as opposed to 2 1500's as well.

Thats my take, I'm sure with much more knowledge than myself will chime in with more info though.

ps...you could run two 1500's strapped at 4ohm on your bl's too but that probably wouldn't get you what you want for power.

  9. 7-10 cubes per...

They will have wicked low end

See not so much lookin for wicked low end, plus with 1500w per driver I don't want it reaching its mechanical limits to easily.

I wonder why people recommend up to 10 cubes when mike advises 5 at 27hz on the site. I'm guessin I don't dig on the lows as much as others.

  10. try the box on the website, maybe tune it higher, say 32-34hz. i'd honestly say anywhere from 5-7 @ 32-34 would be a pretty damn decent all around enclosure for an 18.

    wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

thanks for the reply! Maybe a 12ft for em both and with the aero's I can test around 32 to 34 and see what I like. I can always take up internal space and bring the box volume down for testing too.

...mental masterbation at this point, still gotta deaden and order batteries, but trying to get an idea on what I can do.

  11. Ok, after tearin apart my truck I found alot of space and it'd be a pity not to use it, so thinking ported on the rlp18's now instead of sealed. Wanted to see what people suggest. Mike says 5 at 27hz on the website, and has said 4 to 7 cubes in the stickied thread. While i see people talk about going in the 7 to 8ft range I'm thinking smaller might be where its at for me.

I've got enough power (saz-3000) so I don't need a large box for efficiency reasons, I'm thinking I wouldn't need to tune that low either. I listen to mostly metal/rock and occasionally some oldschool hiphop, so I think these 18's will give me than enough lows for what I want no matter what. I might do the occasional demo or show next year so a bit peaky won't hurt my feelings.

That being said what do you guys think? I'm going to get an email into Mike but I heard he is on vacation or something of the like. Box will be aero's so tuning can be easily changed, I kinda want to nail down the size a little though.

Sure wish oxsign was close, would love to hear how that small box at 34hz sounds in person. Sure seems to get loud on the mic :)

  12. If you want a great price on some sound deadning I'd go to Raamaudio and contact Rick and ask him about his BXT product and Ensolite. Would be cheaper than dynamat and you wouldn't have any closed cell foam mat if you went with the mat for the price.

Yup, think I will be going with bxt and ensolite for the back wall. This f150 is suprisingly quiet for a truck. Definately more road noise since I took the seat out though so gotta make up for that.

  13. I will definately be stickin with the pair...I cannot afford another...haha

Good news is I am going to stick with the sundown 3000, alts ordered, will grab some dynamat to do the back wall next payday. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to pick up batts until the end of the month.

Thank god for the home depot card, even though I'm broke I can atleast get some wood to start building a floor in the truck and then get started on an enclosure :)

  14. Now I may be getting too big for my britches...but I swear I could fit 3 18's in there sealed in 4ft each with ease now that I have the back seat out. Hrmm..maybe I just go ported with the two. I really wanted to try sealed though...who knows.

    Here's my progress today:

    before:

and after more work than a back seat should take, never mind the spaghetti on the floor, just look at all that wide open space to use. And yes that is a temp tag in the window still :/

  15. It just seems that the deka's have done good for people so I sometimes wonder why pay extra if its not needed. Not so much cheap, just smart purchasing.

Carquest sells a rebadged battery labeled NGT Extreme. It uses the same AGM technology that Kinetic uses but costs $140 compared $400 for a Kinetic HC2400.

Pretty good deal and lots of people swear by them.

Crazy those NGT Extreme's look extremely similiar to the deka's on the outside. If my local carquest can get them for 140 each it would be worth trying two just to see how they do. Thanks!

Called my local carquest they said they can't order the group31 ngt extreme and their group34 is 170 bucks...back to the deka's :)

  16. rlp002wb9.jpg

its brother showed up today too, still boxed up in the garage. These are some of the sexiest drivers I've ever seen, the etched logo on the cone and the silver vein basket are very nice touches. If they sound half as good as they look I will be quite happy :)
