  2. Well that is a good point, but in this game you can't be totally cheap.

    J

I prefer frugal as opposed to cheap :)

It just seems that the deka's have done good for people so I sometimes wonder why pay extra if its not needed. Not so much cheap, just smart purchasing.

I have an email into powermaster, will see what the alt and a few batt's will cost and then do some soul searching and maybe some diggin in the couch for any spare change and see what I can do :)

  3. You should be okay IMO with one battery back there, but why not get something more "car audio" minded back there?

    J

basically just me being cheap and the bang for the buck factor on the group31 deka's seem pretty good. I can get one shipped for 170. The powermaster 3100 is 299 shipped.

  4. Hey all, getting ready to install a 3000 I picked up (will install in about a month) in my 07 f150. I have a yellowtop g34 up front, was planning on running 1 deka intimidator outback and upgrading the alt to a 200amp powermaster.

Would this suffice for daily driving or should I look into a 2nd intimidator? Will never be played with the truck off. Reason I'm going with the intimidator and not the powermaster batts is I'm cheap and they look good for the money.

Last, does powermaster have a dealer network, or if I'm lookin for an alt do I need to go directly to powermaster?

    thanks!

  5. Going to need a very stout front stage to have a chance at sounding decent at higher volumes :)

You don't even want to know what my current front stage is :ehh:

Infinity 6x8 coax's on a kicker 200.2....no deadening, no midbass, craptastic. The coming months will be for the back end build. Once we get back to warmer months (spring) I will probably deaden and do the front stage right with some decent drivers. Truck is only a month old though, can't do everything I want at once unfortunately.

  6. That = loud :)

    Thats the plan :)

Wanted something that got stupid loud, yet still sounded good. Owned a few SS subs in the past and dug em, and have heard good things about the sundown amps. I think it will make for a nice combo.

If 3kw, 2 18's, and the loss of my back seat isn't loud enough I will give up trying :ehh:

After buying the subs and amp I'm currently broke...expect updates in about a month (i'm also pretty slow when it comes to installs, maybe a tad longer...)

  7. I would go that route 2 rlp18's on the sundown 3000d.. I think it would sound great...

I was thinking of doing the same with only 1 rlp18 ported on the sundown 3000d...lol

    Aloha

Actually just ordered up the two 18's this morning. Going to start tearin the backseat out of the truck and start building. Unfortunately I won't be able to afford an alternator and batteries for about a month.

I'm about 99% sure I'm goin sealed, but when I get the back of my truck stripped I might just have to see if ported will fit, just outta curiosity :)

  8. If you watch the gains and be carefull you'll be good. fing05.gif

Right on, thanks for the reply man, here and on CA :)

Looks like I will order them up. Then they can sit in the closet with the amp until I can afford an alt and some batteries. That should give me plenty of time to rip out my backseat and start building!

  9. Hey all, thinking about getting in at the last minute before the price hike. Was toying with the idea of another 2 rli8's but I have a sundown 3000 sitting here I got a great deal on and would like to use. Would two rlp18's sealed hang with the 3000 if I am conservative with it?

This will be goin in the back of my 07 f150 extended cab. I should be able to go 10 cubes for the pair and still have room for the amp and a battery or two.

    thoughts? Thanks!

  10. I think I heard the rli-8's were out of stock..but I dunno..

    Aloha

Well poop, hope not. I dug my last pair, wish I'd a never gotten rid of them. I need something for my truck on relatively low wattage. The rlp12 was fun, maybe I'll have to give another rlp a shot.

I have a sundown 3000d sitting around, wonder if that would be too much on two rlp-18's sealed...backseat of my truck would have to go, but oh well :)

  11. Well, after diggin through about 12 pages it looks like almost everybody does the 4ft with either a 30 or 32hz tuning. Supposedly that nets a huge gain down low over sealed.

I'm probably going to give that a shot and see how it goes. I will probably build a sealed box just for a comparo as well. Sounds like the Q's do pretty darn good sealed too.

  12. Hey all, bought a 15" Q last night to mess around with and have some questions. Recommended enclosure is 2.8 to 4 cubes and tuning anywhere from 28 to 33. I need to figure out where in that range I should build.

I listen to mostly metal, rock, blues/folk and on the rare occasion I'll crank some old school hip hop. I know kick drum is front stage and I will get flamed for this but I still like cutting my subs at 80 to get some impact for kicks out of them.

I have a Kicker sx1250.1 that will be going on the Q so it will be just a bit over the rated limit of the woofer. It will be going in the back of my 07 extended cab F150. I toyed with the idea of going sealed but I know if I did I'd always wonder about the output potential of ported...so might as well just go there.

So I need to figure out what size/tuning is best for my situation as well as sub/port placement. I did sub forward port up in my s10 with a gaggle of re8's and it sounded great and got loud so leaning that way.

This setup is replacing two dd1508's so I'm sure no matter how I go about it I will be pleased in the upgrade in sound quality...they sounded like crap!

  13. Ordering through SSA was a great experience!

Ordered a set of maw15's Sunday, they were shipped Monday, got here today (Thursday). While it was a cheap order it was still handled super fast. Product was packaged great. Opened up the box and there was an invoice with a handwritten thanks from Aaron on it. Only takes 2 seconds to write on an invoice but its a nice personal touch no other company I've ordered from has done.

Thanks guys! The maws are sexy, I love the simple look, can't wait to give em a go!

  14. i got 2 maw15's sealed.. sounds good and gets loud.. you will be more than happy with the performace and price! what are you thinking for a box? jw..

sorry for the late reply ive been really busy lately..

    o and what amp?

I am thinking I'm going to do two boxes, each 2.2 cubes so I can put a woofer behind each front seat firing into the seat. I think part of the problem with my 8's (besides them just not being SQ drivers) is no matter where I put them they are in direct ear shot in my truck, so I hear any noise the subs make. That instantly draws the soundstage backwards when its obvious where the sound is coming from.

So, I'm going to try and fire them into the seats and hope I get more feel and less sound throwing off the sound stage up front...if that makes any sense. I cut them at 80 which I know is high, but with my cheap/lazy front stage thats where it has to be for now.

Amp is a modified mmats d300hc. Almost enough power at 4ohms, too much at 1ohm, so it will be ran at 4ohms...roughly 900 watts.

  15. Before you dump your units, consider trying them out in a sealed config. You might get a sound quality improvement...

Already have them up for sale and have two maw-15's on the way, with some quick shipping from SSA's store their slated to be here Thursday. I think sealed the 1508's wouldn't give me the output I'm lookin for. Also I just like to try different things, and selling the 8's covers the cost of the 15's so I get to try different hardware with no impact on the wallet :D

  16. It'll definitely sound better than what you have, that's for sure.

Good times, thanks for the quick reply. I like to try different stuff and have tried re8's and rli-8's in the past and dug them, I've only had these dd 8's in for about a week and I'm just not diggin them at all.

edit...just put two on order, I guess I will find out how they sound soon :)

  17. Hey all, I just put two DD 1508's ported in the back of my extended cab f150, and to be honest they sound like poo. They do get loud, but notes just run together, no definition.

That being said I'm thinking about offloading them and trying two maw15's sealed. I'm curious if these are more of a SQ driver, for the price they are hard to say no to.
