I cant tell you all how much I appreciate the sacrifices everyone made to be here today...lets hope the next meet is even better (your feedback helps a lot)! We also have a very special secret to share with everyone, but it will have to wait....keep yourselves posted. Blowfest 2005 Team LAMARE (throw those staches up!) TeamSSAudio.com

    Fiberglass & resin

I tried the dipping method, and it was simply too messy for me . There are many ways to glass though, no one technique is better than the other, just experiement on some small pieces first, find your groove, and continue with what it comfortable to you. Like I suggested to another member here, check out glassmanscustomforum.com, lots of good advice there.

  9. Vausen, we will probably start at around 12 Noon or 1 PM. Some of the guys are coming into town earlier. We will probably hang out at my house until everyone starts calling. If anyone needs to get ahold of me for any reason, my cell number is (661) 674-8427. Don't hesitate to call if you get lost, or need some info, etc. It will be on at 10AM Pacific Standard Time, and I'll keep it on all day. Look forward to seeing you all. Im gonna hit the sack early tonight, big day tomorrow!!
  10. It's very possible that you could get a hollow sounding design, if the fiberglassed box isnt built properly. Ie. with proper bracing, framework, correct glass material choice and resin mix, etc. Building a 100% fiberglass box, frankly, is just a bad idea. Wood, MDF specifically, is a much better material for building enclosures. Even the most amazing looking fiberglass enclosures almost always have a skeleton of wood inside of them. You are spot on assuming so. If you are going to do this, I would HIGLY suggest building an internal framework first. It is much easier to stretch your fabric from these points using fasteners/staples, etc. Bracing/reinforcing WILL help you to build a better enclosure, and in turn, a better sounding enclosure. There is no magic percentage though, just do what feels right. If the enclosure is going to be removed often, you might want to try and keep the weight down, but then you will probably be sacrificing sturdiness and durability. If its going to be mounted against a body panel (ie. spare tire/trunk sides) I'd reccomend bolting it to the vehicle's framework as well. Now, not that jelly hasnt done a good job, but he does need some more practice. IF you do the glassing/stretching part right, you wont need to use all that bondo.( Body filler is just that, body filler, not body coverer ). If you want to really learn about glassing, the best thing is to head on over to glassmanscustomforum.com There are a lot of great tutorials and a lot of experts hanging around there. I've found it to be an excellent resource.

    It's that time again...

Looking good. I think you should trim up that one surface of the mounting board where the top amp's bottom edge meets the wood on each side. Trace the curve of the amp with some cardboard, and transfer it to the wood, and go to work with a jigsaw. I think it would look much better. Details man, details. I guess we can carpet or what not at the meet, I am going to call a couple upholstery/fabric shops today...

    Fiberglass & resin

Even though I posted that article excerpt, I think polyester resin will serve you best for your application. It seems that you are trying to keep costs down, and most of the shops I talked to in my area all use polyester resin.

    The Stereo Integrity Cobra.

Just build your own amp. I helped a kid in my highschool electronics class do it, and he used it to power his tweeters. If you only need 10-25 watts per channel... Those are the biggest tweeters I have ever seen, pretty impressive.

    1. They are mounted on adjustable pillars, the ones that come from DLS. They are going to stay like that. I personally dislike flush mounted tweeters, since its so tough to get imaging spot-on. Mounted the way they are right now, it is very easy to change the horizontal angle for the best imaging position for either passenger, or driver. Pretty handy if you ask me. 2. I may change it to rear firing later... For right now, it sounds fine, I was going to make it rear firing, but I didnt have enough clearance , which means I will have to build another box. No biggie, just don't have the time or money to do so right now..
