    My Future Set-up (I Hope)

mine is in 2.2 after disp. and it sounds like it needs a little more breathing room on the really low stuff... Personally I think 2.4-2.6 would be awesome with this sub. Try 17 x 24 x 14 thats 2.33 after disp. and is middle of fi's recommendations

What was your dumb ticket for?

So I get this squealing tire ticket after making a left turn out of an intersection... I was waiting for the other lane to clear i was in the middle of the intersection and the light was red, so i punched it to get outta there, and I get pulled over and ticketed. I think, go to court I cant lose because of the situation it was. Judge tells me squealing tires is only permittable in an emergency and that was not an emergency. End of story im out 200 bucks thats the Stinger sp1700 I wanna get! ...Life sucks oh well
  3. So I would really like to learn more about all the T/S parameters and what each affects. I have been searching for a nice 10" at an afordable price and settled on the Fi BL for price and performance, and based on what I thought I knew about subs picked it over the Mach 5 IXL since it has a higher sensitivity and fs and SD I figured its louder. Then I modeled them both in WinISD beta... The red is the IXL blue is the BL, the lower line is my best attempt on both subs for a daily vented box, basically the flattest response I could get. IXL is flatter and louder... The other line is a 6th order spl box and once again IXL wins... Anyone know why and/or what parameters affect output in what way? Power is the same to all setups. Here are the numbers... The BL is dual 1 DUAL 1 | DUAL 2 Fs: 41.5 Hz | 40.3 Hz Re: 0.75 Ohms/coil | 1.5 Ohms/coil Qms: 5.43 | 5.58 Qes: .37 | .44 Qts: .35 | .32 Mms: 155g | 164g Cms: .95mm/N | .95mm/N Sd: 310cm^2 | 310cm^2 Vas: 12.8 l | 12.8 l Spl: 85.8dB 1W/1m | 85.7dB 1W/1m Bl: 12.8 N/A | 19.0 N/A Xmax: 21mm Rms: 1000W * IXL 10 Power Handling: 1000 Watts SPL (2.83v/1m): 84 db Fs = 27.8 Hz Re = 3.7 Ohms Qt = 0.43 Qes = 0.46 Qms = 6.44 Mms = 234.1 grams Cms = 0.14 mm/N Vas = 13.9 liters Sd= 265.9 cm2 Xmax = 20 mm BL = 17.4

    ~~ SSA Protoype super8 ~~

wow i just read this whole thread never saw it before and there are only pictures of your test box and nothing else lol... these are very intriguing what are your goals with them? Are these intended as low power amazing sq subs or will they take lots of power and have huge output. How do you hope they will rank next to rl-i8s or the 1508s? Sorry for lots of questions but I am leaning heavily towards 2 tens but there is so much appeal to an 8 inch driver...

Apparently I know nothing about T/S

Well I dont know my cars peak... how many DB typically is a cars peak over the rest...? Would a curve like that of the bl daily be good since cars tend to peak 40s-50s so have it lowest there and let the car even it out?

Apparently I know nothing about T/S

Thanks thumper very good info... So you think the BL will definitely be louder? I intend to build a sixth order spl box and a daily box for any sub I get, so Im looking for the loudest daily setup I can get while being relatively flat... The BL daily box is within +/- 1db from 27-66hz according to winISD which is fine for me doesnt need to be perfect...

    Beefy 10"

Ok I've been looking around a lot and the beefiest 10" I can find is the dc level four xl, with 1500rms that is probably underrated... I dont know prices but are there other 10" above 1000rms that dont break the bank? I really wish fi made a 10" btl but that magnet is HUGE... Im considering a single 10" for primarily spl purposes but the better it sounds the happier I am ... so any suggestions?
  8. So last time I entered an spl I tied a guy with two 10" solo x's and a rockford fosgate t3000, and there's another in 2 weeks and im sure he will be there. I dont want to risk damaging my sub by upping the gains or voltage any more than i did last time, but perhaps i can adjust the box/ place it in my car differently? The box is a little over 4^3 at 31, and it is about a foot back in my trunk facing into the car. Only ideas i have now are putting 45's in my corners to help flow and raise tuning, and face the sub towards the trunk. Are there any little tricks anyone knows about to give me just a .1 or .2 db gain?

    upcoming spl competition help

Thanks a lot DeeCee that all sounds great... the best part of my box is I used mdf from a construction site my dad was on that was originally planned for shelving, so one side has a very smooth finish over it, so I used that side on the inside of my box, I guess thats kinda like resin, or at least the same principle... About 2 years ago before I even had a system I went to an spl comp to watch my friend and we noticed pressing on the trunk lid lowered score... I dont think I can corner load the box is huge but I can have my port facing the trunk on drivers side, since the mic will be passenger dash. Fritos the last comp I went to I had everything cranked bass knob, deck settings, and gain just past 3/4, I figure yea its probably distorting like crazy and is awful for the sub but for a few short burps my Q handled it...

    fart box for BL

Im planning a 6th order bandpass for burping my 10 BL... good luck with yours I'd say make the port as big as you possibly can fit in the box with your desired tuning and volume... And from what I've heard, but dont quote me.. the shorter the port length the better because a longer port interferes more with the acoustics of the box... or something like that... someone smart please expand on this or correct me.

    Bandpass vs ported

Ok I've been doing a lot of research on standard 6th order bandpass boxes, and haven't found enough information to decide if its better than standard ported for spl. If I tune a 6th order with a very narrow high output passband, such as 39hz rear and 44hz front, or in this general region, will it be louder than a ported box with a similar tuning? From what I've seen the 6th order will boost output higher, but it strains the subwoofer more and lowers power handling, so it has more output but you can put less power to it so they balance out... I want to try one out but if you guys think it wont be louder than just ported for spl use only then it's not worth trying. Also I was wondering on tuning for either box, Ill be using a 10" Fi Bl with fs 41.5, so should I tune near this or try to figure out my cabin gain peak, which I have no clue where its at but it was 36hz from a 31hz box with a q15.. so I know both the box and sub lowered that peak...? I guess just for flame prevention I'll mention the vehicle is a 2000 honda accord sedan, I have plenty of space to work with for either box, it would only be for spl use so my goals are LOUD, and i'll have a separate daily box... Thanks ahead of time for any input guys...
  12. If you havent done it yet... I used about 8 feet in my Accord and my brothers S10 took 5 feet... Battery ground can usually be under 1 foot his was 5 inches... If you get 10 feet you will most likely have plenty with careful routing.. but always better to have too much than not enough

    Bandpass vs ported

hmm yea I have the beta so I dont know how to check my impedance graph, thanks for the help... I came up with a 40 and 44hz tuning though and the drop off isnt near as bad its louder than ported from 39-45 and 42 is 4db above 41 and 43 so somewhere in the middle should be very loud...
  14. I just found an alternator on ebay, and im not sure how much of an upgrade it is, but it definitely is one... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-...bayphotohosting Most likely 165 is its max, with a lower idle. Im not even sure what my stock alternator is I want to say 85A, I have big 3 with 1/0 and with my 1500 watt amp with moderate gains I drop to 10v or so under heavy pounding, with severe dim. Is this alternator an adequate upgrade, or should I save up and hunt down a slightly better one... I dont think i can afford more than $200 however. If I did get this do I need any other upgrades? My batt is stock btw, but with a good alt is a better one needed? By needed I mean worth the cash since I am virtually broke right now...

    Bandpass vs ported

Hey cool I just got winISD running and modeled a ported box and a bandpass box at similar tunings, and depending on the bandpass tunings it's wayyyy more efficient just the highest output I could get was tuned at 41 and 42... The peak has a nasty rolloff above and below 41.3 hz or so, something like -24db from 41.3 to 41 hz, so I'm wondering if a 41 or 42 hz tone wont be that loud and I should try to get one of them to peak or will cabin gain even it all out?
  16. So a week ago i designed this then built it with my dad for my brothers truck, a 94 s10 reg cab. The sub sits under the dash facing up and port is behind passenger seat. With polyfill it should be ~2 cubes @ 32hz its kind of crude and we couldnt afford the room for 45's or bracing, but it sounds really good and pretty even through a broad frequency range. My brother hasnt decided on a finish yet so its staying bare wood/caulk/putty/nails for a while... SPL testing will hopefully be the day before thanksgiving

A pillar location Not just for tweets

Ive been wondering the same thing. I have a pair of 3.5's I considered putting in the A pillar just dont know how it would sound... I thought it would look really nice though and they have a pillars with gauge pods for air/fuel or oil pressure etc., but the only size cutouts ive seen are 2 1/16 inches...

12" fi q in reg cab s10 with leg room!

its pretty darn loud, I've never heard a regular cab truck to compare to, but whats amazing is how it sounds. In the passenger seat the bass doesnt sound like its from the sub or from the port, its just everywhere, and it sounds great and pretty even through a broad hz range. I highly recommend this "unorthodox" design lol
  19. I guess i've decided to get a new battery, and need to know what is adequate and still cheap for my system... I have a clarion 1500 watt amp and stock battery under the hood in a 2000 honda accord. If I run a second battery to the trunk is a kinetik hc800 enough to get the job done(stay above at least 11v) or do I need more and who makes the best cheap batteries? My local shop has a used stinger sp1700 out of their demo van for only 200, that may be the way to go but im hoping to spend less if possible Please and thanks for replies

    btl box ideas

if by more you mean louder but still musical...ish maybe make the nex bow a little bigger too btl's like to breathe lots
  21. Smanleyman

Your killing me Scott. . .

man anyone ever heard the saying "we ride 22's or betta" thats how you do rims big style and this will be how you do subs big style!

    Beefy 10"

lol the 10's next to the 18 look ridiculously small... Im def gettin a 10" dual 1ohm BL with cooling once the AQ2200D is back in stock and a guy i know can buy my q15 and clarion amp... The AQ2200D puts out 1300 at 2ohms that should be fine even with cooling in a 1.3ish box right?
  23. Smanleyman

How do i make room for subs?

well... heres one ported 12" q in a 94 s10 regular cab... mod it a little for two sealed tens or just port one 12... depending on volume and type of sound you want and how much power you want to use you could use any 12" fi sub
  24. Smanleyman

    $450 budget

The AQ2200D should be back in stock early december I emailed them and asked so Im holding out for one to put on two 10" Fi BL's... If you dont find a better deal by then its something to think about...

12" fi q in reg cab s10 with leg room!

well without polyfill its 1.75 around 34hz which is still half decent... I figure polyfill has to do at least a little bit to raise volume/lower tuned frequency... Glad your happy pankakes! Take a vid and put it up on here...
