  1. I have an alpine cda-9886 HU with pxa-h100 sound processor and ktx-h100 tuning kit. I'm thinking about selling this setup and getting the pioneer deh-p800prs. I'm looking for opinions. I'm working on a revamp of my system and wanting to go active. I know it's possible with the alpine, but i'm not happy with the eq settings i can access with the deck and i don't want to have to hook up a computer to get better sound. Also the ipod interface isn't that good. I haven't played with the pioneer with an ipod. It would also simplifiy my install going wtih the pioneer(no extra box under my seat). I figure my 9886 with accessories is worth around $350. I can get a p800prs for around the same money. And then buy the ipod adaptor for another $50. So the upgrade would cost me less than $50 or so.
  2. I can't argue with that, as I haven't tried anything else. Unfortunately I've already ordered 100 sq ft of rattle trap and I have about 15 sq ft of regular fatmat left over. Is there anything you'd reccomend I use with it? The first thing I'm going to start on is the hatch and the front doors. So suggestions pertaining to them would be most important.
  3. Well you're welcome to your opinion. I personaly had a good experience with fatmat, especially since I got a roll for free. And I don't know what pricing your looking at but where else can I get sound deadening for just over $1 a sq ft?
  4. The sub box is first on my list. I need to buy or borrow a table saw, since i don't have access to one anymore. As far as the fatmat is concerned, i used it in my last car for the doors and trunk lid. It worked great, didn't smell that bad and didn't sag, melt, or start to fall off. Besides it's going in a salvage title vehicle that i'll probably only have another year or so. Then it'll get traded or sold and i'll buy something else and put the system in that. So i'd rather not spend too much money on something i can't uninstall. Which is the main reason i went with fatmat last time. On the mids, i'll run one set of the focals, bridge my 3242 and have 100 rms per side. And i'll start reading and trying to figure out what i want for a front stage.

Thanks for the warm welcome. There is a great deal of info on this forum, and for the most part everyone seems well informed. Unlike most stereo forums that are full of

    New to forum from Oregon

I've been lurking on this forum for a while, and figured it was time to say hello. I'm in Beaverton, OR and have had various car stereo systems over the last twelve years.
  10. For goals, I want a system with sq 90% of the time, and spl the other 10%. My install right now is pretty basic, with reference series alpine coaxials in all four doors running off my alpine 9886 and pxa-h100 then through the factory amp under the back seat. An RE SX15D4 wired @2 ohms running off a kicker kx1200.1, in a box that is too small, doesn't have enough port area, and is tuned too high. I also have an alpine 10" flip down dvd player in the ceiling. The dvd player is coming out since i don't use it. The door speakers will be replaced by Focal 165 a1 components that i already purchased. And the factory amp will be replaced with an old eclipse 3242 that i also already purchased. The kx1200.1 is being replaced by an saz-1500d that i just bought, and the sx15 will be going in a properly spec'd box very soon. For electrical I have a kinetic hc1400 for a main battery installed with 4 gauge power wire. I'm adding an hc 800 battery in the back with the amps, changing out all the 4 guage for 1/0, and doing the big 3. I know the sx isn't an sq sub and will probably be replaced later. Maybe with 2 12" FI Q's. I'm also ordering up some more fat mat. I think this setup will keep me happy for a while. But i'd eventually like to do an active setup, with some better mids. I only bought the focals because they were too cheap not to.
  11. Everything is in as new condition, with all boxes, manuals etc... I got the pricing off ebay. Individually everything should sell between $325 and $350.

    RE SX15 Box Recomendations

I have an re sx15d4 in a box that is 2.9 cu ft gross w/2 3" wide 10" long aero ports. I will be running an saz1500d @2 ohms into this sub. I want the best sq I can get from this sub. So I'm looking for box recommendations. Right now I'm looking at building a 4.2 cu ft box tuned to 34 hertz with a slot port facing the back of my jeep and the sub firing up. I used the box calculator to design the box.

    RE SX15 Box Recomendations

Here's the slot port box t i designed on RE's website., sub firing up, port firing back. Width 30, height 18.5, depth 21. Port height 17, port width 3.75, port length 1 16.5, port length 2 4, sq port area 63.75, box volume 4.467 cu ft, tuned frequency 33.89. If this sounds good i'll get to building.

    RE SX15D4 box recomendations

I got the sx in a random trade for cheap. I didn't choose it for my needs. But I have it, and compared to all the kicker, pioneer, etc. Subs I've owned It's amazing. I thought about selling it and buying something else. But I figure mdf is cheap. So why not give it a chance in a box that's optimum and give it some more power. Then I'll know for sure if it's what I want. If not, then it's in a great box and I can sell it locally for more money.

    Hello from Beaverton, OR

I just signed up for this forum, so far i've picked up alot of great info. I've been into car stereo for about 10 years as a consumer, and i have installed probably 8 full systems and countless deck, door speaker, and or sub installs. If you live in the area hit me up with a pm. It's always good to meet people with the same passion for sound.
