  1. Thanks for the replies! Now my followup question: Is the signal strength/quality degraded by passing through one amp to another?

My head unit is not the best considering it is a navigation unit (Kenwood DNX-5120). It has front and rear pre-outs that only produce a little over 2V with the volume practically maxed out. Now I am looking at running a 50.4, 125.2, and 1500D so I've just been going over various connection possibilities in my head. I practically need to turn two sets of pre-outs into four!!!! I know I can use y-splitters, which I am currently using to run the 50.4 on the front set of pre-outs. I'm just not sure how splitting the signal again to run the 125.2 will affect things. I am currently using the rear pre-out for my 1500D. I've been toying with the thought of picking up an Audiocontrol Matrix which would allow me to effectively turn my single front pre-out into the three I need for the 50.4 and 125.2 and ensure that the signal strength is maintained. What are your thoughts????

I would look into active crossovers. They can be had for around 100 bucks and can give you everything you need, plus the ability to run active.

  2. if anyone is interested i have some moar pics. i off'ed the 3 havocs and pickd up......dun dun dun dun.....drum roll.......

hey you live in michigan right? i seen your craiglist add for the havocs a bit ago lol. My buddy went to the show in taylor and seen your ride. PM if you ever need an extra hand id be willing to come give u one.

  3. So... I got tired of not going to any shows so I've thrown something in the CRX. Took my "magic box" from the Jeep and threw my prototype Monster 15" in there as it was the only D1 sub I found laying around and powered it with the prototype 2500D.

    * Also did 150.1 but didn't take photo... clamped ~1300 watts of power. Big rise + lacking electrical = not alot of power.

Peaking at 52 Hz... not right for the CRX at all -- but interestingly this is MORE efficient than the same box in my Jeep. So I may just keep adding power to it :)

So did you start with a .5 nominal load or a 2 ohm load? just curious.

  4. I meant mid range.... i can get a bnib with warranty cdt component set for 220 with carbon fiber cone... And how much do the AA's run, i realize the crossover wont work.

Nick, no hurry but if you see my email just give me a shout back... thanks

  5. ill give him a week, hes a busy guy and right now im trying to figure out whats wrong with the one i got now, hopefully i can figure out whats wrong. And i would more then likely use them passive with the mb quart crossovers but i have no problem switching to active. Right now my build is SPL so i need something to get loud without sounding bad, the mb quarts dont sound as good as my bostons did in my old car but they get much louder. I got a Fi BTL and love the quality of it so i figured i would see what they had to offer since i seen a few installs with AA components...

Thanks for the response, hopefully he will chime in or someone will with a little more info...

  6. Hey i have heard of people having 6.5" components from AA, and etc... im looking for a pair that get loud and good. Currently running a set of mb quart premiums and one of the 6.5 drivers is messed up not sure whats wrong with it so i am looking for a new pair. I was thinking of getting some CDT's but i was going to see if anyone knew if AA had 6.5 drivers. I emailed nick with no response so i am sure hes busy. Anyone know if they make them still and if so how much... dont need xovers or anything just the midbass drivers.

  7. Ascendant Audio (Fi's B&M line) has 6.5" mids.

Contact nick@ficaraudio.com That is how I ordered mine.

^ How much did you pay, and what where the specs, only reason im asking u and not emailing him is beacuse im sure you would be able to respond faster, if you dont know then dont worry about it. Just sounds like a sick setup hope it would fit in my stock location.

  8. Well I just bought a used Fi BTL locally and now I want to rep it with some pride. Im thinking of buying a hoodie since i need one, but does anyone if they run large or small? If you have purchased one let me know. Just curious as what I need to get.

To Fi. get some zip up hoodies :)

I'm fairly confident this would be the right place to put this. Also im getting a sticker, where doi u think would be the best mounting point. I am thinking bottom driver side back window.

I have a silver 07 grand prix. So i was thinking sticking with silver.

Just a light thread no need to crunch numbers etc. Just some opinions.

  9. There is no way to fit an 18in btl in a grand prix unless u plan on taking out the back seats. a 4.45 cubic foot box tuned to 28 hrtz leaves you with very little room. I have an 07 so it may not be exactly the same size but, if you want to push 3500 watts you will need extra batterys, etc, and there will not be enough room for it. I suggest a 15 btl. As for your amp, if you are goign to have turned down then I'd say get the 3500 if you can afford it, but dont expect to use over 2500.

    Just my .02

  10. We are proud to announce, we are moving all our sites, to a new dedicated server that we just bought and are very excited about this change. Invision Power will be doing the transfer of the forum, so there should be no hitch with this. Not sure on how long this should take, but the site will be down at some point today or tomorrow.

bare with us, the new server should give us much need speed in load time etc....

    :)

Sounds sweet, if you guys ever need any webhosting, server help such as optimization etc, im your man. I ran cmodz-hosting.com for 2 years and recently sold it to some big corporation, and now they pay me to run it because they don't know how. :) Just let me know if anything evers not working like webmail, etc and im sure I can help out.

  11. i got a 15 btl FL dual 1 ohm i need a good amp or amps no more then 350 dollars i have 1 sae 1200 on it now but my buddy is going to buy it so i can get something bigger any ideas???????

If intersested I have an old school rockford Fosgate 1501bd, it puts out 1500 watts rms @ 2 ohms. When I went to a buddy's and put it on a bench it was pushing ~1650 rms. This amp is older but still 100% working condtion. I even have sting adaptors so it takes 0 gauge as when it was made it was only big enough for 4 gauge. This helps out alot when you got it pushing a lot of wattage. Not trying to sale pitch it to you but ask around its a good amp.

Im sure if you shop around enough you will find a good amp, but just make sure our getting a good brand, those low brands never push close to what they say.

  12. ok im having these thoughts running threw my head.

Im stuck. My original plan was to get 1 12 in btl fully loaded.

But now I have been thinking...

    449 12 btl - 2000+ rms 3 cub

    648 2 -10 bl - 2000+ rms 3 cub

    528 2 -10 q - 2000 rms 2.4 cub

    657 3 - 10 ssd 2400 rms 4.5 cub feet

thats just a rough notpad of whats in my head. Space is a concern. As I dont want to lose my whole trunk. my amp can push 2500 @ 1 ohm. If someone could rate these in the following for me cuz im to tired to think.

Loudest SPL, Cleanest, Best for heavy daily use (I drive 45 minutes a day to school and 45 back. I like to bump most the way. This is a must)

Would a 12 in BTL be able to withstand such abuse. I know more cone area means more spl. But space becomes an issue. If it wasnt I would get two 12 bls fully loaded.

I would do 3 10's but that puts me in the same space as would 2 12 bls. My friend has 2 15's and they are loud. If I could fit 1 15 btl in my car would that make a huge difference (1-3+db). I know its all about the setup.

Im sure the Q will be best for the quality and they rank middle in price. But would 1 15 btl be better then 2 10 q's? its 5 in more cone area(Q's). AHHH so many choices...

I want these to last, and im not doing competitions I just want to have a system that I dont want to upgrade every year. I had one 12 and loved it. Just wish it was a little more.

Also real quick newbie question. I had a 12 in orion pushed by 252 watts rms at 4 Ohms. By getting 1 12in btl and running at 2500 watts rms at 1 ohm be twice as loud. I know in order to double the sound you need the 10x watts. Even tho the resistance is different? I like 1 12 setup, but I like to be safe. And if being safe will also help make it louder, then its worth it.

  13. all right so i currently have 1 12" bl 2008 model and im thinking up my new set up and im throwing some things aorund. i was thinking one 15" btl or 1 12" BTL but then i remembered that 2 12" BL's should be louder than a single BTL and i was just thinking how much louder would 2 12" BL's be compared to 1 12" bl.

It would be 2 12" BL in a custom ported enclosure in the trunk of a little cavalier 2 door. it would be 2.5 cu ft per sub with 39 sq inches of port per sub and a tuning of 32, and on a rockford 2500 (be approximatly 1400-1500 per sub rms)

    compared to a

single 12" bl in a 2.5 cu ft after displacment tuned to 34 hz with 39 sq inches of port. also on a rockford 1500

with the single 12 i hit a 145 DB on a sine wave sealed up at the kicks with an ac mic. i wanna hit a 148-150 will the 2 Bl's do it for me?

i just wanna make sure it will be a huge noticable gain.

    thanks,

    anton miller

Hey for your first setup was it 1500 or 2500, im just curious as im looking to get aroudn 145 from a 12 in btl. Thats my goal and i have an orion 2500d which is around 2500 rms at 1 ohm. Since you had a bl, im just curious how much you were giving it.

  14. If favor for which setup? If I go for dual 2 and wire it to 1 ohm, I would gain at least 1db up to 3?

Second what level do you think I will reach with this setup in a 07 grand prix. (I know many factors but a guess would be sweet. Also where could I get a db meter that reads over 135. I have looked online and they all cost like 250. Isnt there something under a hundred?

  15. I had a thread open in the general section but I think this would be a better place for my forth coming questions. I have been doing a TON of research and such and I think I got down enough info to do this correctly. I still need some opinions from others with more experience. First off, budget is a concern however I don't have one. The more it costs the longer I am willing to wait to do this correctly. I don't want to take any short cuts.

    Currently I have the following...

Rockford Fosgate Power T400-4 (Multi Channel Amp)

    Orion 2500d Amp

    Coming Soon

Infinity Perfects 6.1 6.5 in components

    Infinity Kappa 693.9 (3 way 6x9)

Pioneer F90BT Head Unit ( In dash Navi w/ 4 volt rca preouts)

0/1 Gauge Wiring Kit. (Have some questions here as well)

Alright Now for the questions and the reason for this thread.

    First off are setup questions

I plan on doing the Big 3, I know what it is but no clue how to do it. I read online and there are a ton of explanations and such so I think I can do this myself.

I will be running two amps so I will need to run two sets of wires, or can I get one that splits.?

The Orion amp has 2 Power inputs and 2 ground inputs. Whats the best way to set this up. Do I need two different battery's? Could I just get one amazing one and replace the stock and be okay? What kind should I get.

Will I need a HO Alternator. I have an 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. (*whats my stock alt put out?) I drive daily and don't plan on doing any competitions. Just for daily use.

    Second are Sub/Amp setups

The Orion amp is rated for 2500 rms at 1 ohm. and 1700 rms for 2 ohms.

First thing is I think the Fi 12 BTL fully loaded is the best choice in sub. I would get 2 BL but I want to be able to use my trunk if need be. I don't want it completely filled with a box.

What option do you think I should go. Now on the Fi site it says it gets .7 ohms per voice coil so if I select dual 1 wouldn't it really be pushing around 1.4 ohms not 2 ohms. Making the RMS somewhere between 1700 and 2500. My main concern is I do not want to blow the sub. The sub is rated for 2000 rms so I think this would be the perfect setup. Not to much not to little. Would getting dual 2 ohm be better since I would be pushing more power? What would be the sound difference. If its just slightly louder with the dual 2 setup for 1 ohm (.7?) but less quality then I want dual 1.

    Third Sound Deadening?

I read all over that this helps and doesn't help. Its a waste of money, get this one not that one. I read one site that says to cover the center 25% then use this and this, etc.

Basically I want it so the trunk doesn't rattle apart and doesn't sound like trash. I know that most sound deading claims its increases the performance of the subs, etc. Which I am sure its true, but how much. Whats the best thing I can do. I can deal with road noise. I don't want to do my whole car. I saw that dynomat had one thing for the speaker area in the doors. I am thinking about getting that. Also a trunk kit. and license plate kit. My last car was a 01 passat and I had nothing and it rattled. It was only a Rockford punch 300-1 amp nothing crazy like this. I didn't like the rattle at all, made it sound cheap. I don't want people looking and saying he has this loud system but couldn't afford to make the trunk stop rattling.

Sorry for the long post but this has 90% of my questions that need answers. As far as boxes go, that will be my last concern. Right now my budget is relatively tight. My goal is to do it little by little. For example. I would like to do this pat all at once. Get headunit, get it professionally installed *(its the navi and requires all the park and reverse things to be hooked up etc), install door speakers, upgrade door speaker wire. Run power wire from battery to back and setup my multichannel amp. Basically having the 4 speakers headunit and amp all installed. Then I would work on the Big 3, upgrading the battery, adding a second one, and sound deading if needed. And finally getting the Sub itself and making the box.

The door speakers I will be getting for dirt cheap as a good friend of mine works for Harman and will get me them at his cost. Head Unit I can get for 600 new and 125 installed. I can do the door speakers myselt.

Right now I have 540 (modest) worth of car audio equipment I am selling.

Do you think my phases are a good idea? Pro's cons? Myself I don't want just bass, I want to hear the whole music. But I looooveeeee bass. :P

Any comments are good one's. I need all the help I can get. Also I am very good at webhosting (Had my own company and sold it to pay for college and this :) so if anyone needs help setting up a website etc. I can do it for you. I know its random but if I can help someone that helped me I will not feel as special.

  16. An update, I just got a Orion 2500d, its pushes 2500 watts at 1 ohm.

It has 2 power and 2 ground.

I am going to use this amp. What Electrics would I need as far as Alternator, Battery, and second (battery?) if you could link me where I could buy.

It pushes 1700 watts at 2 ohms @ 13.8 volts.

I think that is what I am going to run it at. I know I can get more wattage out of running it at 1 ohm, but on Fi site they say dual 1 is like .7 ohms per voice coill. meaning 1.4 ohms is what it would be actually running.

I think I want the fi btl 12 in fully loaded. Do you think that this will be appropriate or am I under powering it?

Opps my friend never signed out. lol this ^^^^^^^^^^^^ is me. Not norizzlle90 or w/.e his screenname is. He was over and must have logged in and never logged out. Sorry for any confusion,

  17. yellow top for battery upgrade, and capacitors i wouldnt the big 3 will take care of the voltage drop problem

Great so i wouldnt need a HO alt or capasitor?

    Thanks,

I am also looking at maybe getting the JBL GTO2400.1 Amp. I think if I get that amp I would need the BTL series. Correct? its 2400 watts at 2 ohms

  18. also what kind of electrical upgrades should i do, and what should I get.

HO alternator? How many amps I have a grand prix (07)

Upgrade battery? Is a second one needed?

    Capacitor? Which kind?
