  1. Unless you have someone one off a board for you you will probably just have to get a new one from Hifonics and by the time you do either you will have spent more cash then the new one.....sry man. But hey Christmas is on the way......with the next amp get a fuse holder and fuse they will run you like 30 bucks to your door for a cheapie

yeah... whats even more stupid is the fact that i have a fuse and a fuse holder. i was just so frustrated with the install on my current car because it took way longer than i expected and when i finally got it all in, i was so ancy i just said fuck the fuse i dont need it... looks like i learned my lesson the hard way.

  2. If the voltage dropped off badly there was probably a dead short....did you loosed any fuses in the proses??? with such peaks in current inrush you should have blown a fuse or two.

theres no built in fuse on the 2608. and this is going to sound very irresponsible and noobish... but i didnt have an external fuse on it. from a birds eye view, this was probably an event waiting to happen. im a broke 19 year old student. im running 4 guage, stock electrical, and no fuses. very stupid, i know.

  3. Well if you let the magic smoke out of the amp I am 99% sure is screewed.....probably the power supply or MOFSET, and if the magic smoke smelled really bad it was probably a wet capacitor (those things stink)....In any event I think its safe to assume your going to need another amp.

i really have no knowledge on amp parts. do you know how much a power supply of MOFSET would run me, roughly? i know you wouldnt know the exact price, but do you know any ballpark number? im pretty strapped for cash right now, but if its not too expensive i might try to get it repaired.

  4. so im in class right now, and i cant focus cuz im so pissed off. all i have is a brutus 2608 on a Fi BL. running @ 2 ohms (rated 1700 rms). so heres what happened. im on my way to class, which is about a 20 minute drive. the music was on the whole time. probably going half tilt for the 1st half, then going hard for the last 10 mins. i have never encountered any problems with the amp in the past, so im very conused why it decided to shit out. im running a stock alt and battery, which i know is not enough for this amp, but thats what it is. i never properly set my gain, ive always just turned it down when i saw voltage drop or heard any clipping. back to the story, im about 2 minutes from school, and i feel like bumping a song that beats hard. so i turn on the song, and immediately i get slight voltage drop and some clipping from lack of voltage. this probably happened for like 2 seconds. i turned the volume down a couple notches, to keep my voltage stable, and stop the clipping. it continues to play for another 5ish seconds, and then my sub just stops playing. so i let the music continue playing for another 10 seconds or so, praying that it comes back on. and of course, it doesnt turn back on. so i turn my head unit off for a few seconds, and turn it back on, and a couple seconds after i turn the deck back on, when it triggers the amp to turn on, my voltage took a STEEP drop to the point that i could hear my motor starting to sound not so stable. so i shut my deck off, and a few seconds later, i can smell burnt equipment. i get to school about a minute to 2 minutes later, and asess the sub to make sure its not blown. no coil rub, dust cap not hot, no hot air in the port, so im guesing its ok. feel the amp, its kinda hot, check all the wiring, everything is how it should be. turned my car back on, and turned my deck on, and again i get steep voltage drop, so i turn it off, and go to my trunk to watch smoke pour out of my amp. at this point i assume my amp is fucked. anyone have advice for what i should do? class is done now, ill be back to check this thread soon hopefully.

  5. You aren't going to find a horn loaded subwoofer in a car, at least not one that is designed correctly. For instance, a 30Hz horn is bigger than your car.

    okay lol. thanks.

  6. From wikipedia-

Horns are the oldest form of loudspeaker system, having been used from veryearly on for cylinder recording players. They use a shaped waveguide infront of or behind the driver to increase the directivity of theloudspeaker and to transform a small diameter, high pressure conditionat the driver cone surface to a large diameter, low pressure conditionat the mouth of the horn. This increases the sensitivity of theloudspeaker and focuses the sound over a narrower area. The size of thethroat, mouth, the length of the horn, as well as the area expansionrate along it must be carefully chosen to match the drive to properlyprovide this transforming function over a range of frequencies (everyhorn performs poorly outside its acoustic limits, at both high and lowfrequencies). The length and cross-sectional mouth area required tocreate a bass or sub-bass horn require a horn many feet long. 'Folded'horns can reduce the total size, but compel designers to makecompromises and accept increased complication such as cost andconstruction. Some horn designs not only fold the low frequency horn, but use the walls in a room corner as an extension of the horn mouth. In the late 1940s, horns whose mouths took up much of a room wall werenot unknown amongst hi-fi fans. Room sized installations became muchless acceptable when two or more were required.

A horn loaded speaker can have a sensitivity as high as 110 dB at2.83 volts (1 watt at 8 ohms) at 1 meter. This is a hundredfoldincrease in output compared to a speaker rated at 90 dB sensitivity, and is invaluable in applications where high sound levels are requiredor amplifier power is limited.

thanks. a couple more things... what do they look like? someone told me that steve meades box in his tahoe is a horn... but i thought it was just a normal ported box... maybe im on crack?

  7. what are people referring to when they are talking about a horn? it always seems like theyre talking about the enclosure, but what makes a horn a horn? and is that the full name? just "horn"?

  8. make a video with the windows open, and you do the hair trick with the hair of a girl ;)

It is too loud to play inside -- when we get it outside again we will do it.

If we play inside the shop it knocks everything down in my office.

    4th pic, in the garage.

clean... but what really got my attention was how nice the neighborhood is. 500k+ houses?

depending where it is its probably alot more than that. was just at my brother in laws house, and although they are very close to the ocean, the houses for sale that look to be about that size are anywhere from 3-6 mil.

tell your brother in law to get me a job

  10. I'm still partial to google.

I agree, I am partial to Google. Maybe I haven't tried Bing enpough but the one time I did it didn't seem as attractive. Oh well we will see which stock runs best at the end :)

x2. I didnt think it was as much of a "smart engine" as the commercial makes it out to be. ill be a google fan til i die.

  11. I don't know. . . . I like my Wii, but I'd rather go the old-fashioned route. IF I want to play football, I'll go out and play football. If I want to play a football game, I'd rather grab a controller and sit down and play.

agreed. i think this would be cool to watch, or maybe spend a 100 bucks on to upgrade my 360, but i would NEVER spend 500 bucks on something like that. im much more satisfied with sitting on my ass with a controller in my hand and a headset around my head. i just think itd be something to look at or play at a rich friends house, never something i would actually buy... just my .02

  12. Well I would rather have a 15" in its optimal box than an 18" in its smallest enclosure but if he wants to force an 18" in there then go ahead. On another note, I know there is nothing wrong with underpowering a sub but with that power I would put a BL on there instead of a BTL, just my .02.

a BTL on 1200 watts is going to be louder than a BL on 1200 watts. just cuz the btl is built for 2000+ doesnt mean it is less superior on less watts. and smallest enclosure for an 18 would be 5 cubes. again, if you read what i said, you would see that i said 6+ cubes.

  13. does anybody have experience with the trunk space of a zx3 2002 ford focus? i guess it doesnt have to necessarily be 2002, but at least the same body style. Im recommending the BTL to my friend based on his goals and because im a Fi fan. he wants to be as loud as he can get with one btl, and hes pretty noob so immediately he assumed the 18 would be best for him. so what im asking is does anyone know if a box big enough for an 18 will fit in the focus's trunk? i dont have the dimensions, although i might later on when i talk to him. and it can take up the whole trunk except a lil room for the amp (most likely going to be an audioque 1200d.) hes probably just gonna be running it on stock electrical, so there doesnt need to be room for extra batts. I know for a fact a box for an 15 will fit, just not sure about an 18. i was thinking ported, at least 6 cubes after mdf/driver/port displacement, tuned to mid 30s.

EDIT: Remember this is the hatchback focus. not the trunk focus.

there is not a lot of space back there. i owened an 01 zx3, you would be hard pressed to fit the 18, depends on how high you built the box. i dont know if the stock alt will hold up. the only bad thing on the motor is the alt, i smoked 3 of them just driving the car. upgrade the ground wire off of the motor. its only lke a 10 or 12ga wire off the passenger side of the motor. i ran 3/0ga over to the the shock tower. he had better get some large capacitors to feed the amp. you have at max 36" from the hatch to the back of the seat, however the seat leans to the rear so at the top you are down to 26" if i remember right.

hes not going to be competing or anything so i dont think he cares about it being below the windowline. just enough so he can see through his rear windshield with his rear view mirror. do u know the width of the trunk?

I personally would go with one 15" BTL, your still gonna need to account for amps, batteries and airflow around the box (put that 15" in the biggest box they recommend and hell be happy).

i dont think u read this whole thing... i mentioned no extra batteries. and it would be sub and port firing up. and the amp is what like 2 inches thick? not too big...

  16. fi btl output numbers > alpine type x output numbers. there would be very few, if any instances that type x's would dominate btl's. theres not really any typial scenarios where there would be enough variables for a type x to beat a btl in output. people that say that bullshit are just dumb and are scared to be wrong. maybe with 2 similar woofers, but a btl will dominate the type x in output in your case. im willing to put money on it.
