driver problem?

i picked up an older dell, desk top.. and much to my dismay i have 2 problems that are beating me.

1 my video driver is not working? im stuck in 16 bit and 640x480 or some crap.

2 my onboard sound card is not working? no sound.. no adjustment, when i go to my driver it wont even let me select anything.

dell demention 2400 ep 1st editon i think... i have done as many updates and windows will allow.

any help would be great! thanks guys!

Have to figure out what card it has and then getting a driver is easy. Pull up your hardware list and let us know.

ok now.. under "other devices with a yellow question mark" "it states, multi media audio controller" with a big yellow question mark

then just below it.. under other devices (yellow question mark) it states video controller (vga compatible)

Hey, i need to know the Device tag for your hardware so this is what u need to tell me so i can help you.

Go to Device manager, double click each uninstalled device, go to Detail tab.

On dropdown menu, select Hardware ID.

It will show something like -

VEN_xxxx&DEVxxxx&.....

I need you to tell me what the 4 characters are after VEN and DEV.

yes... Also, you could do windows button + R ... type in dxdiag and it should tell you the model of the video card... then go to the direct manufacturer page.. But also, dell has the whole shabang on their site if you know the exact model number...

also for future reference, dells usually have a service tag sticker either on the top or the back of the computer. if you put that tag into the dell support site, it'll give you pretty much all the drivers for your computer
