wow. 1) low voltage - attributed to no electrical upgrades (55ah battery? wet cell I presume, you know those kill off brain cells right?) 2) Improperly set gain - This only gets worse as your voltage dropped. 3) Improper box for your application - whatever made you think that 29hz was a good idea for you... you should look at 32hz, you obviously want loud. In summary. There's nothing wrong with your amp (unless you damaged it due to low voltage), there's nothing wrong with the XCON (except that it's blown now). The problem is you not upgrading your electrical, making an unwise enclosure decision and getting happy with your knobs and adjustments. If you still can't figure out what went wrong.. sell all of your equipment. Right now.

you can't blame a product for failing when you drive it to death from abuse what you basically did was buy a ferarri and blow it by putting a rock on the gas pedal while telling them they need a stronger more durable engine...... there is nothing wrong with the voice coils in the Xcon.... the voice coil WILL handle well over the rated RMS with clean power easily

your woofer is a victum of poor operation... the gain on the amp IS NOT a volume control there is a point on the volume where it really doesn't pound any harder if you pass it but your not quite shure so you turn up past it anyways..... this is very very very bad the end result is ALWAYS ripped suspension or fried coils and leads contact Aaron ( Denim ) and he will set you up with a recone
  4. Good example of why we don't use box calculators for Wardens
  5. Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams, One 2 ohm Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Speaker which one is your setup? It kind of sounds like you're at 1ohm but i can't tell for sure

I could never ask for more from a company, forum, and community. SSA has the best customer service, products, and help that anyone could possibly dream of. We appreciate you SSA. Thanks

That sound your hearing when you press on the cone is probably the tinsel leads, and if they are making a sound they are burnt. It's very hard to fry triple stranded tinsel leads, you sure know how what your doing when it comes to blowing woofers.

It's not the voicecoils fault. It does what it's told.

Wow!! How is it possible to kill an Xcon??? I give mine a ton of dirty ass power everyday and she hardly ever gets warm. Anyway, if you are comparing an Xcon to a Kove Armageddon, that is not a fair comparison at all. The Armageddons voicecoil can take a bullet! For the sake of SSA's rep I'd like to say I've broken a Concept CSP 18 (4000 RMS, the voice coil came apart) and never been able to make the Xcon sweat. hahaha

Sorry bro. Not to rub it in, but I saw it coming. Get a recone and adjust your gains correctly.

Pwned My xcons get beat on daily and never broke a sweat or got smelly. Blame your install..not ssa
  12. It's all bullshit. Even the idiots who claim hydrogen generators assist a standard internal combustion (gasoline) engine are full of shit. IT's hype nothing more. Most people think higher octane fuel increases performance as well, but they are wrong, unless of course the computer will compensate by increasing timing, but for most vehicles, it's moot. Electric cars may be less polluting that combustion cars, but you still need to burn coal to provide the energy to charge them and that produces more pollutants. And then you have to manufacture them which creates more pollutants. Then you have to make their batteries which are the most toxic parts. In fact, the building used to produce power cells for a certain Japanese manufacturer is one of the most polluted places on the face of the earth. I doubt the electric car would hurt big oil much as most of them own the coal mines which provide the fuel for the electrical plants.

Actually, they're not the same thing. They're both butyl compounds extruded and rolled up the same way, but they aren't the same butyl compound. There's no doubt that they could be used for some of the same purposes, but I would never suggest that anybody use the product I sell to set a windshield. My Extruded Butyl Rope is the same as the adhesive on the CLD Tiles I sell. It's optimized for vibration damping, not sealing.

crunch is the cheaper hifonics? so if i'm looking for lower distortion wouldn't I wan't a better amp? I was thinking higher ohms has lower distortion so what if I found a hifonics amp that is 1800-2000rms ar 2-4ohm?? would that work??
  16. -1 points
the amp I have now is 1600rms at 1-ohm so why did this amp never blow my kove audio sub with my gain set at max when it can blow this xcon with the gain turned up only 60% of the way.
  17. -1 points
I know the gain is not a volume control and I do keep it turned below distortion most of the time, But it was 1 in the morning and I just came from a concert at a club that was louder than my 142db car so i wasn't paying attention and ya this happened. I know 10 is bad thats why i want a HO alternator.
  18. -1 points
Wait... So your saying that you came from a concert to your car (moms station wagon?), and found that your one sub wasn't as loud as a building full of professional audio equipment, so you thought you would crank the gain to compensate? I never touched the gain. I turned the volume dial up higher than normal, and it was 1-2am i wans't thinking or paying attention that much. Even that these are SQ I Think they should make the voicecoil more heat resisant. Is it really expensive to do this? if so I can see why otherwise why not I would pay an extra 100-150 if they had an optional better voicecoil and wires. I do now know my mistake but now i must correct it.
  19. -1 points
well its just that I can tell the sub can do much more cuz when i turn it up that 4-5 more notches there is a very noticeable difference to me and my friends. From what i have seen now I think it was the alternator and amps fault. I have seen the amp shut off from it going into the below 10volt red area of my gauge... I do have a interview tomorrow and I know i will get the job so I will have money to upgrade soon.

I know its the amps fault, but you guys might of misunderstood. I get that the amp distorting is what blew the sub. I know I need a better alternator and amp, But I was asking in addition to improving that equipment and also in addition to setting my gains right, what could I do to help keep it cool.

its the fact that I know it can go louder that drives me nuts. every other speaker ive ever owned could take a beating. my house speakers and my last two subs. i'm just not used to something thats not tough
  22. -2 points
well why don't they make the voicecoils tougher, the kove is 11 years old i'm sure the technology is up for grabs when the company is out of business. also when I do a recone can i buy a better voicecoil??
