batt question
1 pointWhere are you gettin optimas for $30? I found a stinger SP2150 on Clist the guy is asking $300 I think its 91 ah Is that even a good buy used for $300? $300 for a used battery?? You can get a new one for $340 shipped. Anyway, the cheap battery trick has to do with the manufacturing date. All batteries made by Johnson controls will have a round sticker on them showing the date of manufacture. Find one at an Auto part store that is one year old or older in manufacture. Most Auto chains will not sell you this battery at retail if the worker is educated in any type of business practices. When the battery is over a year old, they have a choice of sending it back, (just to be rebuilt) or selling it as a "used" battery. Instead of losing out on all money, they will change the sku number on the "old battery" to a used battery and sell it to you. I know for a fact Autozone does this (I was store manager at 2 stores) and O'Rielly's too. If you live by a low volume store just go in one day, ask them about used batteries, look at some manufacture dates, see what you can come up with. Another neat battery that chains have you could get "used", is the Mazda Miata battery. Really cute, really small, perfect for a clean simple install with little power. I'm actually buying another D31 from O'reilly's today and will gladly take pics and post a receipt if people don't believe companies do this....1 point

Most efficient subwoofer available?
Technology has improved greatly over the past 20 years......however the laws of physics remain the same, which is what we are battling in the realm of sensitivity. An article on sensitivity can be found here (and was also linked in my post in the DVC thread) that will provide the answer to your question: Subwoofer Sensitivity - SSA Car Audio Forum1 point

1 pointNow this post is the beginnings of something never attempted by myself nor my son. Ever heard of 10lbs of crap in a 5lb bag??? Well we are attempting to put 120lbs of crap(just a figuire of speech) in a 20lb spot. We have come to an understanding that because of space limitations we have to make some choices on a happy medium between looks, space and performance of the products we have chosen. So, that being said we have come up with a design that should give a nice wow factor and still have decent performance. We also were trying to make sure that all the tail-light and such were accessable once everything will be installed.(Don't want to tear out the system to change a bulb.) The looks of this box for the 15" sub is really scarry. By sefugi at 2010-06-05 Mock-up of the 2-10's and the 15"--Not to sure at this point...Does seem to have an ok flow from one to the other... By sefugi at 2010-06-051 point- Running one voice coil on DVC sub ok?
If you are only using a single coil of a DVC driver and leave the other coil open Qes and hence Qts would double, sensitivity would decrease by 3db, motor force (Bl^2/Re) is halved, the inductive corner frequency doubles and power handling is decreased (some argue that power handling is not cut completely in half because the 2nd coil helps act essentially as a heat sink which helps dissipate some of the heat, but I've never seen any testing done to confirm power handling of a single coil compared to both coils). I found this link by accident one day a couple years ago, and it shows a good comparison of a driver's change in T/S parameters with coils wired in series, parallel, one coil driven the other shorted (for both coils), and then one coil driven and the other open (for both coils); woofertester.com If you are interested in the math of why the above happens, you can skim through the formulas for the T/S parameters here on Wikipedia. Resistively Damped Operation can be accomplished by only driving one coil and using a resistor or potentiometer across the 2nd coil to "change" the Q of the driver. This was the entire premise behind the old Ascendant Atlas driver. Yes, they really are. If you want to calculate the efficiency of your subs (or any other speaker), you would use the formula found here; Efficiency (N0) = 9.64 * 10^(-10) * Fs^3 * Vas / Qes *To express as a percent, multiply by 100 *Vas in liters So, for example the Efficiency of a 12" SSA Icon is; 9.64 * 10^(-10) * 29.9^3 * 43.7 / 0.45 = .002502 .002502*100 = .2502% And to verify, to convert this into SPL 112+10*log(.002502) = 85.98db And the sensitivity of the SSA Icon according to their specs; Spl 86.0 1W/1m TaaDaa!! So the SSA Icon converts .25% of the power you feed it to acoustic power, the remaining 99.75% is spent as heat.1 point- so i got my new eclipse today...

1 pointIf your looking at the Havocs, you may want to look into the XCONS here .... http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/index.php/product-information/xcon.html I hear they are pretty good ....1 point- 95 Eclipse Father/Son Project
1 pointO.K. We all have our jobs. To take a break from sanding my son worked on the front and rear bumper. Had to cut and fit the wire mesh to fit in all the holes that are cut in them. He also wanted to add some support rods to the front bumper for strength. This is the rear bumper with the screen cut and fit in the bottom holes, one side will have to be cut out for the muffler to fit through. Oh! Yes those are headlamps wired and modded into the back-up lights. His idea, I guess he needs more light when he backs up. By sefugi at 2010-05-30 Untouched front bumper. By sefugi at 2010-05-30 Support Rods and screen installed. Starting to look good. I might even drive this thing! 1 pointAnother day is drawing to a close but we have made more progress. I'm so tired of sanding. Originally had a couple guys that were going to do the body work and paint the car, but you can't count on anybody anymore. So all the preping that has been going on was not suppose to be in my lap, but now it is and we are doing our best. It's coming along but it sucks. Here's a few more picks of the progress. Got the side-skirts mocked up. By sefugi at 2010-05-30 Then got them primed. By sefugi at 2010-05-30 Front fenders primed. By sefugi at 2010-05-30 By sefugi at 2010-05-30 Started wet-sanding fenders. By sefugi at 2010-05-30 Finished wet-sanding fenders. By sefugi at 2010-05-30 Anybody wanna help sand this thing???1 point- 95 Eclipse Father/Son Project
1 pointOK, Got the headliner installed. Made some mods on the B pillars cause the factory seat belts are out, will be using a set of 4-points. The B pillars will make more sense once I get the carpet and rear seat installed. Did a quick mod on the rear speaker mount. Factory speakers were 6X9 and we liked the 8" coaxial that O2 Oxygen offered so we made them fit. Once the rear panels are reinstalled the back will look factory, but have a little twist. Stay tuned for more.....Lots more comin' By sefugi at 2010-05-24 By sefugi at 2010-05-24 By sefugi at 2010-05-24 By sefugi at 2010-05-24 By sefugi at 2010-05-24 By sefugi at 2010-05-24 By sefugi at 2010-05-24 I have seen a lot of veiws on this build but few have replied. -1 pointsYeah, I had an 18" xcon walled. The Xcon is in perfect shape sitting right beside me in my room. The wall that the Xcon was in was about 3 years old and the mdf on the port started splitting while playing woofercooker by bass hit. So, I was like F it, the Xcon is a ""SQL"" woofer, so it can't be that hard to make a louder setup. The opti's have a lot more car flex and feel louder, but on my meter I'm about 2 db quieter than my xcon was. I still need to seal off my wall, and I need to brace my port, the damn thing flexes like galloping gertie. I don't know what to do with the xcon. I really wish I had a 15, not a 18. I'm also pissed at SSA for making such a great woofer. For something that is not made to get loud, it can do it pretty well.......-1 points- sub displacement for a btl 18
-1 pointsi have another buddy looking to get a 18 inch btl and he wants to build the box before he gets the sub.... seems like a bad idea to me lol dunno why but i would like to know how much sub displacement to account for when building the box for a single 18 btl... he refuses to listin and jst gets all pissy when i tell him to get the sub first then make the box to fit it.... so before he does somthing stupid i was thinking maybe this info could be found here.....-1 points- yeaaaaa 150 db.
