  1. Not sure why nobody has said it, but one of the main reasons to have larger port area is port noise. If you use too small of a port, the air will have to move faster through the port since the area is smaller, and it can cause a chuffing sound and even hinder performance of the sub. It would be similar to sucking through a coffee straw vs. a regular straw. If you have x amount of air to move through a port, it will have to move faster through a smaller port to get it all through in the same amount of time (one stroke of the subwoofer's cone). If the port is too small, all of the x amount of air may not make it through the port in time before the cone has changed direction, and now that amount of air that didn't make it through is pushing the opposite direction on the sub's cone, which is trying to pressurize the box in the opposite direction. Larger diameter subs and those with higher xmax need larger port area because they displace more air with each stroke So while your walmart sub may only have 8 mm xmax so it may be ok with a 3" diameter port, an SSD has three times that amount and would likely need at least one 4" port or larger.

  3. Ok I just posted this on the C3 Customs Bravox Group Buy on CACO. Most likely will get banned but http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/showthread.php?p=799029&posted=1#post799029

  6. Okay, just FYI that I have a 2002 Toyota Camry 4cyl as well. So we've done quite the testing on it! So here's what it boils down to: The industry rates the alternator output at idle at 2,400-2,500 alternator RPMs. Now the problem with that is our car idles at about 600~ engine RPMs and with the small crank pulley diameter (industry standard is usually based on a GM V8 with a 7.75 inch crank pulley, not like the 6 inch crank pulley in our cars.) This equates to about 2,000 alternator RPMs with the A/C WITH an overdrive pulley on the alternator and NOT what everyone rates them at. We are giving you true idle output ratings and not test bench ratings. Having the vehicle in front of us running these tests have made us very familiar with the engine. If you were to put that 320HP on to a GM V8, you'd see about 140 at idle, but on our Camry's we're losing 40 amps at idle. The 180HP has better idle output due to being able to tone down the top end to gain higher idle output. Now the 270XP version for our vehicles will do close to 190 at idle after the engine catches itself and compensates for the alternator load AT 2,000 alternator RPMs. The 270XP will do over 200 at idle on a Chevy V8 engine. So the difference between us and the competition? I guess you can say that we like to actually tell our customers what they're truly getting and not boast our idle output numbers like the rest. Hope that answers your questions OH and just to let you know. These alternators DO NOT BREAK. They're based of of the Denso OEM Hairpin platform and have the most sophisticated regulators out there. Heat is NOT an issue with a hairpin. I rolled around with a 130HP (130 MAX OUTPUT) for 6 months running a SAZ-3500D at .5 and beating the crap out of it. Guess what? Didn't break So you can expect 100 amps at idle MINIMUM.. not something that we're guessing. We know this because of our actual testing on the vehicle.
  7. Perfect amp for your application! ..... http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/store/products/Sundown-Audio-SAX%252d1200D.html
  8. Equipment: Eclipse CD7200 MKII DLS 5 Channel Stinger Wire HD and Sirius Radio Vifa Mids Vifa Tweeters SDS Deadener (Lots of it!!!!) (2) TC 8's Custom Enclosure ON TO THE PICS!!!!
  9. On 300-400 watts after a couple of minutes:
  10. Amp in, and all put back together Andrew
  11. Finished pictures, just forgot to update them. All of the equipment was provided by the customer not us. Andrew
  12. While this is mostly true, just because the driver is capable of more throw than the other, doesn't mean it is going to use it.

Be easy on the gain and that would be a great amp on the DCON 12". I have a 10" DCON and had it running off my Sundown SAZ-1000D at 600 watts at 2 ohms. The DCON never had an issue with the extra power.
  14. Depending on the woofer, more or less port area is required to be effective.

This would be my suggestion also ... My enclosure is ported at 22 htz. (about the same as SQ_MGBs). Best of luck to ya sir. Also remember ... Attention to Detail is the Key to SQ ...

If your worried about Sound Quality you should focus more on your front stage install
  17. When one talks about 2- and 3-ways, they're only talking about component sets. The sub does not factor in. So if you have a mid and tweet, it's 2-way. Woofer, mid, and tweet is 3-way. SUBwoofer doesn't count. To run a 3-way component set active you either need an amp with 6 channels of amplification (yes they do exist), or you get a 4 channel and a 2 channel. You don't have to have all the speakers ran by the same amplifier.
  18. Yeah, the 3-way comp set is truly one of a kind. Amazing Build and Sound Quality! BTW Great Pictures Mark!
