Common sense would say to inspect and attempt a fix rather than speculate and sit on your ass looking for a solution that people will spoon-feed it to you so you do not have to do nothing... I think from your own in-experience, your first post on SSA was owned.. By yourself.

Finished the other pod, got some more sanding done. Going to install them tomorrow and make sure I'm happy, then pull out for some more sanding, rage gold filler, sanding, and finally paint.

I had the same problem with my Kenwood KDC-X589, never found out what happened i simply just bought a new head unit.

So much fail on this thread. OP - play with your settings, if it only happens at high volumes check your settings (high, low, mid). It could be as simple as that.
