Good questions OP. this info should be posted if available. Nothing wrong with knowing as much as possible about a brand you like.1 point

Why do SSA subwoofers cost what they do?
My answers, as well the others are pretty much our opinions based on the few facts we know. Like I said before many of the members of this forum will defend the brand, the question seems like a bit of a jab rather than educational which is where the defensive posts are coming from. That aside, I highly doubt you'll get much more of a detailed answer than what's been provided so far since going into very much more detail will likely begin to reveal trade secrets or other information that the owners or the build house may not want public. That will be up to them though and this would probably have been better done as a PM to Mark and Aaron. I have wondered much the same thing as you as I'm a technically curious person and love to know the how's and why's of the inner workings of everything I take interest in along with what makes the cost what it is. In this case I look at it from a relative standpoint, being that anytime you have custom machine work done such as at a local machine shop, it's never cheap. The company I work for has a lot of specialty equipment to operate the engines, valves, and stations as a whole and we have had to have some of these things repaired or replaced that aren't manufactured anymore (built and installed in the late 50's). From that experience I have seen the time and what it can cost to have custom machining work done so when it comes to applying that knowledge to this particular aspect I don't really question why the costs are what they are. I would imagine anyone with that experience wouldn't so I can understand your curiosity if you don't have that experience. At the same time you could wonder why Lamborghini's are so expensive, or a space shuttle. Custom built items are just always going to be more expensive than items that are mass produced.1 point

- Why do SSA subwoofers cost what they do?
LEt me ask you this. . . . Why are the subs made in china so high? LEt me put it this way. Say an SSA/Fi/AA sub costs $200. It costs $100 to make, $30 to package and ship, and another $30 for overhead. So, the profit at best is $40. The chinese subs cost $20 to make, $20 to package and ship, let's figure in the same for overhead even though it's probably half that, so that driver that is $200 from the guy who had his shit made in china only actually cost him $70, yet he's selling it to you for $200turning a $130 profit. Add in to that, the products are often inferior to the US (my own personal opinion here) counterparts and take away from our economy and jobs.1 point- Why do SSA subwoofers cost what they do?
Don't think hes saying they're overpriced, I think hes just wondering what % of the money goes where. I would have to say Aaron or Mark need to answer that.1 point- 2003 Camry sitting too low
1 pointYes, quickstruts are the way to go IMO. Just stay away from Monroe.1 point- How would my amp preform.
1 pointWith impedance rise from the box you could be closer to 1ohm, but that's a crap shoot and not a good idea to try with that brand.1 point- How would my amp preform.
1 pointIf u have the electrical it should run just fine at .5 "but" some people have experienced problems doing so, I haven't yet, n hopefully never do1 point- My New Baby!!
1 pointIt is not about costing alot or being "any good", it's about trading Fi for vvme1 point- How would my amp preform.

1 pointI would not perform well. I don't know how it would preform Why risk it? You just had it fixed.1 point- My New Baby!!
1 pointGotta love SSA, lol. No love for the budget equipment. If it doesn't cost an arm and a leg it can't possibly be any good. Here is a vid from the last Crescendo show with three of those "shitty subs" on the same amp I have: 3 500 rms "shitty subs" takin a Crunch GP3000D-PRO at .66 all day. I'm very happy with the trade.1 point- My New Baby!!

1 point- Rival Subwoofers .. beast subs
1 pointMaybe that's why this forum is dead, that's not advertising he didn't once mention where to buy them, the price or anything. All he did was show some videos of some subs, the owner would get nothing from advertising on this as it is one of the deadest forums there is,beside Soundpressure. If people can't post vids of other subs, then that's just weak,my 2 cents.Did I edit his post? No. Don't dare call my site weak, if you have spent any real time on here, you will see there are videos EVERYWHERE on this forum, regardless of brand. The way the links were posted before the initial post was edited by the OP, and email address, was exactly like many other brands that have sent one of their minions to post up info so it does not look like free advertising. I am not saying rushrun did that, just that it looks exactly like what I have seen many times in the past, and due to SSA being a busy and popular board, it happens consistently enough. Don't take this the wrong way, but are you feeling ok? SSA is steady year in and and year out, so many sub-par copy-cat forums have come and gone over the years. Every year, SSA continues to grow in traffic and member base. SSA may not have the frenetic pointless traffic of other sites that are filled with kiddies that are in pissing contests, but SSA is stocked full with quality topics, real information, industry people, and people who have a clue what they are talking about due to experience. Just because SSA does not have 15 topics a day asking W7 vs Type-R, or will this hit 155db's or countless posts of "You want DC? I got you bro!", or numerous other examples of wastes of audio internet space, does not mean in the slightest that this site is slow. Take a peak in how many sections we have, how spread out the traffic is, and notice how many posts are centralized in singular topics. No forum that is steaming forward towards 1,000,000 posts could ever be called slow, especially one that has such a centralized focus. (not to mention Mark borked up the site a few years back, during an update and we lost some 70k worth of posts) just ran across this in a google search, good stuff Aaaron. You lit in to that user lol.1 point- My New Baby!!

1 point- The PT Bruiser, 159.5db!!
1 pointGot the first videos of the wall!! I used my friend DC L4 XL 18"s for the weekend to see what all needed to be worked on before my subs went in at full power. The M4a was @.5ohm, so a good bit of juice, but not as much as I'll be running with the MT's. And I noticed I started running into power compression issues with the XL's, they couldn't take the full power of the amp, even at .5ohm. None the less, here are the videos!!! Last night demoing to a friend while my GF does a hairtrick. Someone said this morning that a hair trick in the window is to to easy, so I did this.1 point- rep.points

-1 points- Difference between the 3?
-1 pointsProbably wont be a noticeable difference if everything else is the same-1 points- How would my amp preform.
-1 pointsthey wont play below 2 ohms i think they protect at 1.7 and will play no lower. rememeber its two amps internaly strapped-1 points- Why do SSA subwoofers cost what they do?
-1 pointsI'm not going to be very specific but, I'll list a few reasons for the pricing. Price of parts, labor, overhead, tools, then you have to also consider they're a business and if a business isn't making money they wont stay around too long. *Edit: just wanted to also state these are from my viewpoint and I could be 100% wrong.-1 points- Why do SSA subwoofers cost what they do?
-1 pointsYou look at all the USA built brands like AA, Fi, ect. They are't over priced for the best built subs in the world.-1 points- rep.points

-1 points- FI SP4 Inverted Motor Noise (wtf)
-1 pointsOkay, so I guess the way the cooling is designed or the motor or something is causing loud air noise around the motor that is very audiable when the thing is invert mounted. There should be some kinda warning about this, as my whole install is based around the idea of an inverted driver. fml.-1 points- Why do SSA subwoofers cost what they do?
-2 pointsSo your answer is USA labor and quality. Yea that is exactly what the OP asks for.... How about what specifically with the quality? Is the basket machined a certain way with special coatings? Is the surround made of some high quality super rubber that most subs do not use? Is it because of the way the voice coil is put together? does that take more time? Those would be better questions to answer instead of "because things cost more in the USA". And if you guys think Mark and AAron should answer this, then why are you posting? Nobody is asking about the business, I am asking about the materials in the SSA woofer that makes it worth the price.-2 points- Welcome to the IHoP v.2
-2 pointsI see no reason for a down vote button on replies. It's only causing drama. The up-vote is good, the other should go.-2 points- Welcome to the IHoP v.2
