  1. Has to be the bottom as it has former damage.
  2. so the abuse that i put the ethos is well stated in my topic... i over powered them.. clipped them, unloaded them.. got them stinky over and over and over again.......... so one is new and one is old...... can you tell what is what? i post this proving a point of how well made the coils are on these subs
  3. It is 100% elaborated in my 1st post. You have to look into AC circuit theory to go much further. In a nutshell, the voice coil acts as a resistor to current at higher frequencies, at the switching frequencies of class D amplifiers it is so much resistance that virtually no current actually flows... The only way you could burn up the leads from the switching frequencies would be if there was no voice coil in the circuit... This isn't the case with a subwoofer... It has a voice coil...
  4. can we all agree that its impressive that the old coil looks as good as it does after all the abuse?
  5. Due to the success of the Christmas Lay A Way I am going to keep this as a permanent method of payment. Terms are as followed: 1) ORDERS WILL NOT SHIP UNTIL PAID IN FULL 2) PAY AS YOU LIKE AS LONG AS THE PAYMENT IS A MINIMUM OF $50 3) YOU HAVE (4) FOUR MONTHS TO COMPLETE PAYMENTS STARTING FROM THE INITIAL PAYMENT 4) CANCELED ORDERS WILL BE CHARGED A (10) TEN PERCENT SERVICE CHARGE OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT PAID 5) IF THE TOTAL INVOICE HAS NOT BEEN PAID WITH IN (4) MONTHS YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF COMPLETE REFUND MINUS (10) PERCENT OR IF POSSIBLE PRODUCT EQUIVALENT TO THE CURRENT AMOUNT PAID 6) TO ORDER OR MAKE A PAYMENT EMAIL: [email protected] To order I need: -your paypal address -initial payment, whatever amount you like as long as it's at least $50 -size of sub(s) -number of sub(s) -ohm load of sub(s)
  6. Thank you. We'll recone her and put more effort into learning about why this happened and how I can prevent it next time.
  7. It has nothing to do with clipping. It has nothing to do with filtering either, the inductance of the voice coil prevents the higher frequencies from ever causing enough current flow to actually heat the leads. Don't believe me? Calculate the current flow through a 3-4 mh inductor (the voice coil) at the switching frequency of the amp at the maximum rail voltage... It is no more than a few watts, that doesn't heat up crap... (an amp that switches at 250K will see a load of 4.7Kohms into a 3mh voice coil at that frequency, this will equal 2 watts if the amplifier put that out at 100 VAC..., harmonics will be even lower) Hopefully this put the whole "microwave the leads" myth to rest... It has to do with the lead in your case having a failure in one place and the current is forced to flow through less effective cross-sectional area of conductor, increasing heat. As heat increases voltage drop and heat increases. It just keeps getting worse. You have a 3Kw amp, that is what burned up the leads...
  8. adding the extra lead will do several things. 1. add about 3 grams to the moving mass of the driver. will shift parameters, almost unnoticeable on something this large even on Klippel. parameters shift anyway and are an average set over testing. 2.) could induce slap but HIGHLY unlikely to be audible. They are sewn pretty good. 3) could induce distortion by shifting spider parameters. But this is a non issue in the substage as suspension distortion is considered non audible. And one you get over 140 db you have to get into 40 and 50 percent over all distortion before it become audible. Off the top of my head that's all I can think of now.
  9. If it is just the lead at that much power then this will fix that. And if the coil itself is fine on 30 second runs this is VERY helpful for competitors. This means I can stay with the 4 layer coil instead of an 8. This means that numbers wise the driver would be louder on the same amount if power up high due to inductance. As when you double coil wire length you can expect inductance to drop upper DB 's around 3 DB. We would still of course need to tighten the spider pack to keep it with mechanical limits to keep the coil from rocking. The coil itself will NEVER bottom out as the spider will hit the top plate first.
  10. Yea I'm surprised how "new" it looks! Definitely high quality material since we all know how you abused the hell out of them and they still kept kicking!
  11. shit yeah! One lowball offer and 2 offers over asking price. Guess I'm moving.
  12. Cute kid Don't run the Exodus that high. If you run a 3 way you can get something that digs WAY lower and use a VERY cheap tweeter on the top. MOunting locations will determine all options though. I would rather run a two way system. Let's say max budget is 160 for mids and 160 for highs as maximum budget. Is there a better option that Ex-Anarchy? They seem to be quite the performers. I can get the tweeters/FR's/whatever on axis, but the mid will be off axis. There's only so much I can do. What do you suggest Sean?mt locations....Going to build fiberglass cups into the A-PillarsGoing to depend on you. I hate recommending full rangers and a midbass to others. It is the right solution for me for sure, but I listen to live jazz and talk radio mostly. Both hugely benefit from the ease of voicing most of the spectra through a single driver. There are surely other negatives, but I am personally a big fan. Part of this relates to the compromise of a 2way in general. The gap and separation between a tweet and mid is brutal. Made absolutely worse for me since kicks will never work as my enormous feet just won't let that happen. A 3 way with a cheap tweeter and a robust 4" though would make me happy as well. The first portion of the spectra I would personally eliminate is the "sparkle". It is a fun exercise to play music through an adjustable filter and start to roll things up and down and see what drives you nuts and what doesn't. Depending on what that is may influence your decision and/or my recommendation.
  13. We keep all the "hope" out of it with proper engineering and testing, and then some more testing.
  14. This never got answered, and I've always wondered the same. After making the statement that the AH rating is useless, what should we be looking at to judge the power of a battery? Actually it has been answered more times than I care to remember............lol but just not on this forum I guess. The ratings you need to look at are not there. Plain and simple. I know that is not what you want to hear, but it is in the truth. There is no one rating that is recognized in the industry that really relates to mobile audio. CCA and CA doesn't relate because it takes the voltage down to low in the testing. AH and RC are low amperage pulls, which doesn't relate. There will probably never be a single rating you can look at to determine which battery is the best for mobile audio. So what is there to look for? Performance History, Company History, Battery Make Up, Battery Design, Customer Service, and the company and products track record. Sorry it is not easier, but that unfortunately is just the way it is.
  15. i really enjoyed mine
  16. i dont like the way mine sounds when its raining, ... im sure more so because the windows are up....
  17. what didnt take long ?
  18. looking good.... glad to see such a good builder on the team!
  19. 0 points
being used as a work truck should be back in action in less then a week.. recones are near!
  20. sub move both ways so please show and explain how your sub " self destructed "
