1 pointYour right dude. I know SEVERAL that have "foamed" their vents. Not just removed them, but shot 30 plus cans of GREAT STUFF foam, ALL through out the channels/duct work. Just loaded it full. No shit. And, like i said earlier, they did it, because IT WORKED.1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointWhat i know. ..... wont take long lol. I know im a no one. I know im "new" to this forum. I know i dont have many answers. From lurking, i DO know, Sean knows his shit. Has knowledge i want. I really know, id rather just talk about what we all love, or have a passion for. Just sayin. Billy, just let some things go bud. Open ears, close mouth, take it in, type of thing. Add your goods, when ya can. Feel me? I can see there is a issue, but, instead of "just ban me then", maybe see if it can go another direction. Just me. Again, i dont know much. Anyway...... At finals, i heard a dude say he gained 2db (from a 156, to a 158) from just pulling his DRIVER side chair. If he pulled both, it was only 1.4. So he pulled ONLY his driver seat, and left his pass seat in. LOL. 2 db? Insane. I never even tried that in my blazer build. I wasnt shooting for burp scores, but my hell.... 2db!!!???? Silly. Brent Leavitt, the RTA guru around here, would test at the location he was at (when he was out of state, or what have you) just before the show. Just to account for weather temp. Weather temp? jesus.... I just shake my head and grab a beer. Jesus. lol. Also, i know everyone that hits the coast, LOVES teh meter more. Why? Elevation. No shit. Like a .7 gain, across the board, just getting to or around sea level. So crazy. lol.... Still not sure why the fuck we do this silly stuff. lol......1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointThat makes since. Basically the bottom of the dash would be hollow and the bass waves would roll right up and through the defrost vents.1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointI know ALOT of people that get onto these forums just to chat with their friends and not learn anything.1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointI remember back in 09/10 finals (can't remember which one), there was a Van in line with something like +/_ 165 db on the line for a world title (I think a world record too since it was sealed with the mic on the dash).Someone called him on this (removing air duct work) because this was Illegal in that particular class. But I know for sure this has been done on extreme vehicles. Something about when the mic is legal on the dash, there is a way to get air pressure from the kick panel area to and on the dash. Like I said, a sneaky trick to gain those extra DBs !!! Wish I knew more about it.1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointFuck ya bro. If you get in a competitors rig, and look around. You will see some strange shit. Drivers vent closed, and aiming left, or whatever. A small piece of tape, here, and there. Just know, if ITS THERE, its THERE FOR A REASON lol. It would NOT be like that, if it did not produce results. Ive seen some really odd, and silly stuff, but, ... if they are doing it (the hard core) then there IS a reason lol. No doubt.1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointTo keep on topic: I know a lot of people keep little tricks under wraps while competing. Remember, everyone in the lanes are usually trying to beat one another & get that trophy. It's been my experience to look at what others are doing and wonder why they did what they did. Try to apply basic knowledge of physics into what you are doing. If it's a sealed up metering run and your leaking air, there's a loss of pressure.... I also fully agree with what was said earlier about the resonant frequencies of the vehicle & build which all play into the cabin space, i.e. "B" pillar wall, trunk build, basic enclosure laying below window line in cargo area....ect. Different layouts will yield different results. That's why you see most of the big players either have a meter or access to one all the time to test any modifications.1 point- Finding DB's

1 pointSo this whole time you've been saying that it will sound like crap and now all of a sudden it won't. So technically the same is better sound? Nice logic, lol.1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointIf you look through my older posts, I beefed with him on a daily basis, nothing but keyboard mashing fury lol. I have come to respect his advice, as he's never steered me wrong. He's also helped me develop my idea of my ideal system; I have trouble being realistic in my goals lmao. Can't hate the man for helping me out. I actually used to get warning points for talking out my ass as well, just like you. But I sorta realized, when you say things here sometimes people listen, and if I gave bad advice and someone blew their system up, i'd feel like trash. The difference here is, I learned to accept advice from those wiser as a teen, you're a full grown idiot1 point- Old School Songs with bass added
1 pointthose songs have bass from the original recordings Dirty Diana flexed the dash and drop it about 3" in my ground pounder with the four 15" Xcons on the Crown A3000gti..... that van was a piece of shit when I was done with it.... a good percentage of the body spot welds were ripped loose mostly from old 80's stuff1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointI have my doubts that's going to do anything. A/C duct work is way under the dash. If by removing it you open up a hole in the firewall, I'm not sure it's allowed, especially in a class where everything should be sealed up. IMO all sealed up should be the benchmark. Cracking a window open or opening a door or opening the rear hatch to gain score are useless. As for the NVX versus old-school A/B and the China discussion....the new class D's take quite a bit of abuse, my plastic china shitboxes never got warm and they live in the tiniest space available under the rear seats. Using old A/B amps for nostalgia and bragging rights, ok, but if you say they are better than the new stuff, you're smoking the wrong stuff Same goes for saying you will be able to hear obvious differences in a blind test. Blind test meaning both amps are adjusted to the same measured output level. Now back on topic... Most of the gains will be in the enclosure. Huge ports, huge enclosures (screw rules of thumb, I have been using a 10 inch port for a 12 inch sub, in a 2.8cf box), orientation, bracing or lack of bracing. Heck, I retuned my port when switching up from 8 inch just by using software. It might not have been spot on but I gained an instant 0.9 dB, going from 150.0-150.1 to 150.9-151.0. Next up are car 'mods': removal of some interior panels and carpeting, bracing certain windows or doors. In my old Jeep bracing the rear-most side windows gained almost 1 dB. Seat position, sun visor position, taping up certain vents, this should be tested only after you run out of ideas or space for box improvements and after you have tested the previously mentioned car 'mods'. Most of the box ideas I found out by myself after listening to all the "oh, if you peak high you need a small box" posts on the SPL forums. I spent quite a bit trying to go over 147 dB in a 1cf box with a single 12 and a 6 inch port. Next step was a 2cf box, score went up and final iteration was 151.4 dB with the same sub / amp / power, 2.8cf box and a 10 inch port. 4.4 dB total gain by using a big box, big port, bracing rear windows, removing all side panels behind the backseat.1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointYou never said no such thing, apparently you can't read your own text. What you actually said was "you didn't AB?.... you should have, it would be a huge revaluation to you," then I asked what AB was, and Arron answered, class AB amplifier. So now do you see the problem? And once again we where doing just fine, until you came in with your confusing nonsense, that only you can understand. Even Arron didn't understand what you where saying at first, so no need to come in now, and ADD words to what you actually said, to try and belittle me. And I have switched out plenty of amps, and it's bullshit you can't tell a difference cause sometimes, not always, but sometimes you can tell a difference if their different enough. And even if there was no difference in sound, there is plenty difference in build quality, reliability, style, and efficiency. And that's why I don't like the NVX mini amps, there week plastic little China shit boxes, that want hold up like some of the better built stuff. It's like saying a cheap ratchet from Walmart, will turn the same bolt as one from snap on, but neglecting to mention it will strip out the first time it's strained and the snap on will take a far bigger beating, and even if you do break it from normal use, they will stand behind it, where with walmart your on your own after 30 days.1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointUhh yea, that's what we where saying. I may have worded it funny, but I meant what could you alter to gain db's. For me it was floor mats, hatch, windows cracked, center console open, and glove box open. And you even said yourself, if I heard AB power It would be a revelation and that they sounded better, but now it doesn't? So which is it?1 point- Finding DB's
1 pointI haven't answered yet because my answer has always been simple. Measure in as many different variations as possible and then adjust said design. Works better than any trick. Obviously this doesn't exclude maniupulating panels, windows etc. A/C vents is new to me...and would bet not super repeatable in other vehicles. Come blind a/b my M100 with the little "crap" NVX I have and I guarantee you will be shocked.1 point- Old School Songs with bass added
0 pointsI also like the way slowed songs tend to sound more mellow; don't know how to describe it exactly.0 points- Finding DB's
0 pointsYeah you're a the problem. I see it now carry on. I know keyboard warriors are tough on the computer, the ssme ones who wont say it go your face. How are you older than me but act younger?0 points- Old School Songs with bass added
0 pointsI don't like to add bass, it can cause it to sound dirty. I don't know how to up the lows without lowering the rest of the range to keep it clean. That's what I like about Decaf. I have all of Decaf's Zips =]0 points- Old School Songs with bass added
0 pointsI have to agree with Thumpper on that Dirty Diana, once I bought MJs album and had a good recording the bass was nasty versus my mp3 version. I heard Decaf redid his files to clean them up so you could check there for music, just don't have the link.0 points- Finding DB's
0 pointsYou are the one who cant let shit go. Your still talking about it. You dont have to give a whole spill. He gave advice so take it move on. No need to type a paragraph stirring the pot again. Its old for real. You dont have to respond to everything or take everything said so fucking personally or as an insult. You say you changed but honestly you still havent. If someone says something you dont like. Either respond professionally no matter how they responded or dont say anything, it doesn't mean you got punked or backed down. No need to keep marking everyone of their post negative because you cant agree or are in your feelings. Just speak your mind and move on. Im tired of seeing this forum go down hill as of late. Nobody is staring shit, they dont agree with what you said and back it up. When we ask you to back it up, usually you cant and you get offended. We don't let people misinform others so if someone knows more than you and calls you out. Take it as a learning experience and not a royal rumble. If tou think you're still right then just move on, or change your mind set and learn how you could be wrong or misguided. Even when others beside Sean give you advice you still got to explain or try to make your points valid when they just arent anymore. We are all here to learn, kill time and just shoot the shit. Thats it. Go back and read the rules, if you dont like what someone post then simply move on. No need to get nasty and name call and such. Its ok to debate but literally argue about every single thing. Im sorry you know stuff from early in car audio that was either myths or may not apply anymore. Doesnt mean your not qualified or not experienced, just that times have changed. Open your mind please and help this forum become what it used to. Your not the first person who came here and thought they knew everything about audio and was wrong and wont be the last. No you didnt derail this thread for once but you damn sure didnt avoid the derailment, you added fuel to the fire for pages. Like every other thread you have derailed. Its a pattern with you and if you dont notice it then it wont change. I like to hear your old stories and input just wish you went another way about it. Take it as me jumping on you or trying to help but it doesnt matter. Its not about you, its about the forum and getting help or giving help. Sorry for the rant.0 points- Old School Songs with bass added
-1 pointsMy original of bill withers is definitely not that bass heavy; Either way, what are some old school bangers? Doesn't need to be modified. The SPL thread is mixed or I'd just dig through there-1 points- Old School Songs with bass added
-1 pointsI suppose what I'm asking is for names, DJSNT, Decaf, stuff like that. A good source.-1 points- Old School Songs with bass added
-1 pointsWhere can I find old school tracks with bass added to them? I dig rebassed stuff, stuff like this I don't exactly know how to search them out, I just tend to stumble across them while youtubing.-1 points - Finding DB's
