  1. i have a kicker 1200.1 that will be wired down to 1 ohm ... woofer will be here tomorrow, and i was just thinking about mounting the woofer about 8 inches from the end, to see how the box soounds and if i dont like it i will chop off about 7inches of the same end to make the box about 7.5 cubes. ill have to retune the port just a bit cuz with the removal of about 7 inches will bring the tune to 35~ herts somewhere around there. i wanna keep it at 32~
  2. what do you want it tuned to?
  3. welcome to the site. here are the recommended specs for a ported box for that sub: BL 15 – Ported box we recommend using 2.8-4 cubic feet @ 28-37Hz. Again use 12-16 square inches of vent area per cubic foot of volume. This sub is recommended to be used at Rms: 1000W, so why would you be pushing 2k to it? Will this be used daily or spl? If you want to use this for a daily driver, I recommend pushing no more than 1300W to it. But then again, I'm not a guru either.
  4. here is just an example of a box that will most definitely fit in the space you have and also is close to the recommended ported box specs of the woofer. you do not have to build the box like this, but its just an example. the exact measurements are in number 2. in the picture.
  5. first you should see what your woofer's recommended box specs are, then you can measure your "trunk" space in your jeep to see how much space you are working with, then you can use RE Audio's Ported Box Calculator. You can play with the figures on the calculator to your likings as far as your trunk size and still keep the woofer specs in mind!
  6. thank you for clarifying that for me, i think i will try it out first and see if i like it. :) i was just thinking that it might hurt the woofer for some reason.
  7. EDIT: Well i think i have a solution to this dilemma, since the box is already put together and rock solid... im thinking i can shorten the entire length from 47 to 40, which brings the volume down to 7.5 cubes and makes me happier .... just gotta butcher the box
  8. thanks for your reply. the problem is that here on the forums in the fi technical>bl box enclosure thread it states BL 18 – Ported box we recommend using 5-10 cubic feet @ 30-37Hz tuning, you can tune a little higher if you wish but we recommend keeping it close to 32hz for a daily driver. Again the same 12-16 square inches of volume applies per cubic foot of volume. ---------------- So that is the information i used when i was designing the box. And that is also the box that i ended up building . Later while on the website looking at the products again, i noticed it mentioned 5-8 cubes. so now im confused and starting to get slightly saddened that i build the humongous box that may not even be good for my sub.... PS. How much bracing do you think i can add to take up space? and what type of material?
  9. Recently I built a box that is 47 x 22 x 22 with the port slot it all comes out to about 9.3 cubes, i was wondering if any of the gurus could tell me if that entirely too much volume for 1 18" bl daily driver?
  10. someone told me having 1 fi 18" bl in a box with (9,3 cubes) will really slap some lows. but i was wondering will it only be good for lows or will it be good for the range of the speaker including the lows?
  11. ok thanks man!
  12. ok guys, d2 18" bl ordered and i just finished building the box. my phone is messing up atm so im unable to upload the pics of the finished box minus woofer. but here is the exact specs of what i built. i have a question as this is the first time ive built a slot ported box.... where would be the best place to cut the hole for my woofer? right in the center of the face place? or closer to the opposite end of the port?
  13. First you can't wire a dual 1 ohm sub to a 1 ohm load. A d1 can only be wired to see a .5 ohm or 2ohms. Also if the amp is the KX series than yes the amp can handle the 1ohm load, but the sub would have to be a d2. yes it is a kx 1200.1 and thank for clarifying the d1 d2 situation will be ordering my 18" d2 to be wired down 2 ohn
  14. I have an old kicker 1200.1 amplifier but I'm not sure what Ohm stability it has and I'm wanting to buy an Fi BL 18" dual 1 ohm. My question is what could happen if I wired the dual 1 ohm woofer up to my amp and my amp isnt 1 ohm stable? And how can I find out if my amp is?
