  1. 2- 12's or 1-15 both ported will be your options in that car. The 15" BL will be able to fit a box in there but it will have to have the sub firing up. Have you done any electrical upgrades or do you plan on doing any? Im sure you will be pleased with a 15" BL on 1000 watts and has a good chance of being louder than the CVRs if put in a proper enclosure.
  2. First off the Q is not an infinite baffle that would be the IB3. The Q is geared towards SQ and is not what many people are looking for even though they think they are. The SSD can be in sealed and ported enclosures and is a good daily driver sub. The BL is made for a ported box only so you have to have the room for one. If you are looking for the loudest out of the 3 then it would be the BL. Please give us more information so we can tell you what sub to get. Tell us what kind of music you listen to, previous setups or heard setups and what you enjoyed or disliked about them, and what your budget and the room you have available is. You will get a lot more responses and people won't have to guess what the best would be for you if you can give us a little more information to work with.
  3. Just make a new box so you can get what sub you actually want. The box should be made for the sub not the other way around. I think you will be much happier with making a box based on a sub you buy then to buy a sub for that box.
  4. Since you have a had a few past setups it would be nice to get some information about them. Could you say what sub and amp combos you have had? Were they sealed or ported? What did you like about them and what do you think needed to be improved? This will make it easier to point you in one dirrection or the other. With the information you have given us we really can't point you to a certain setup as almost any sub from any of the brands on here could fit what you have told us.
  5. yes. thats what he said in the last part of his reply. He was saying the MTX amp is not good because it would be running at 2ohm instead of 1ohm so you wont be getting the power you really could get from the amp. You either have to get a 2ohm stable amp or 2 1ohm stable amps. You would need to change your subs to dual 1ohm in oreder to get all the power out of that MTX that they are telling you it will do.
  6. The Dcon package is a pretty good deal and based on what you have told us it will probably be a good fit. You can use the money you save to buy some deadener which definitely helps any install. It would be nice to get a little more information especially after you said you want ""SQL"" because that is what a lot of people say they want but then you find out they are more for SPL and not SQ. Is this your first system? If not what else have you had? If it is have you heard a system you liked?
  7. Absolutely true. Sorry I'm use to everyone wanting to run a BTL with as much power as possible. I was assuming that if someone was going with a BTL over the BL it was because they were going to run more power to it. Though it is very dumb of me to assume things.
  8. thats the first time I've read or heard anywhere . aside from the fact that a slotted port has portarea losses in the corners because of the extra turbulence and often doesnt have kerfed ends (what actually alows you to keep the port shorter) , I see no reason why an aeroport would require half the surface-area , ofcourse the inner suface of an slotted port needs to be smoothed to minimize air-turbulence in the port and that is what what a lot of people forget to do .... the way I see it : the purpose of an aeroport defeats itself when you need more than 2 of them , inner-port surface area is key , offcourse if you want to do more than 2 for aesthetic reasons or because you're to lazy to smoothen a slotted port , I've got nothing against it ... both works just fine . oh one more note , I've seen tenth's gained by smoothing an aeroport , so those aren't that smooth eighter (tuning practically did not change) . I have never tried aeroports before but a friend had some and asked me if I wanted to try them out so I figured I would and if I dont like it then I can go back to my current box. Could you explain the part of having more than 2 defeats the purpose of aeroports? Are you saying it would be better if I could get 2 6" ports from him instead of using the 4 4" ports?
  9. Your double bass sounds bad because of the install/box. I have been through quite a few sets of CVR's both sealed and ported and have liked how they sounded even on double bass notes. I think your box is tuned a little too high and would be better with a tuning closer to 34hz. As for your original question with switching from the CVR's to a Fi sub the last setup I had before my current 15" Fi Q was 4 sealed 12" CVR's. The CVR's definitely got loud but that wasn't what I was after as the Q is not meant to be in an SPL type of setup (the Q still has the ability to get loud but that doesn't mean that is what you're after). The Q will hit the low notes better than the CVR's and sound better. I know that you said you weren't looking for SPL but it seems like you want to sound better and as loud if not louder than the CVR's. This leads me to believe that you are not in the market for a Q and the BL or SSD would be the better options (the BL would probably be more what your after). These options will be sound quality wise as good as the CVR's IMO and if the box is made right and tuned to Fi specs then they will sound better. I think to save yourself some money the best thing would be to try a new box for the CVR's and if you still aren't happy then switch to a different sub but if you're set on a Fi sub then I would have to say the BL would be your best option, then the SSD, then the Q. The BTL is out of the question because of the limited upgrades done to the car.
  10. I am going to make a box with aeroports for a 15" Fi Q powered by a SAZ-1500. My deminsions that I have available are 34"x30"x14". I was able to get 4 4" aeroports with both sides flared from someone which should fit in the 12-16 of area per cubic foot. I was looking at a box that had outer deminsions of 32"x28"x13" to get just over 4 cu. ft. after sub and port displacements tuned to 32 hz. After doing the calculations for the box I have found out that I am suppose to use 29-30" long aero ports and that will not be able to fit so I was thinking of tuning a little higher. I was wondering what is the rule on the distance the aeroport should be from the back wall so I can see how high I would have to tune it? If anyone has any suggestions on a different way to go about this your suggestions are highly welcomed.
  11. Dont do 1 ported and 1 sealed. First try porting the one you have and if that isnt enough then buy the second and port or seal both of them but dont do one of each.
  12. no

You are not allowed to sell on this forum. You have to have atleast 25 posts. Please read the rules and next time you post this will you include if these are Dual 2 or Dual 1.
  13. It will play through the speakers because that just like listening to music. Its watching that you cant do when driving. You need to ground the wire that is for the emergency brake and you shouldnt have that problem.
  14. Very good point.. when I tried mine at full volume my trunk was making quite a bit of noise and I have used foam inside of it and have some mat on it too so with a BL I wouldn't be surprised if your trunk makes a lot of noise.
  15. I really like it. I am using a Q so I am not focused on SPL as you probably are but in my situation it is definitely loud enough for me and if turned up all the way it will definitely shake my car.
  16. x2.. I had the about the same deminsions for my 15 and did it this way.
  17. Highly recommend talking to Don. I'm currently in the process of putting this in my doors and his approach makes so much more sense then putting 5 layers of mat on them. He has a way of fixing any problem you have with rattles in your car.
  18. xmax doesnt matter. dont get the Q as it is a SQ sub. It will get loud but it is not meant for that purpose. Go with a SSD, BL, or BTL depending on your budget. The SSD is a good all around daily driver while the BL is a good daily driver that will get very loud but still sound pretty good doing it. The Q is not what you are after. Try to take everyones advice on this one and get the Q out of mind and either wait until march and get the new SSD or get the BL now.
  19. I figured you were trying to save money and thats why you were looking for designs to build your own. I'm assuming you have all the tools and if you do I would highly suggest building it yourself. This should be a pretty easy box to build. I suggest you go to home depot and have them make all the cuts for you that they can. It makes it much easier on you especially if you dont have a table saw.
  20. then how do you suggest i put it in my truck? You can either read about IB setups and how to make one for your car or a better idea would be to sell it and get a sub that is meant to be in an enclosure. IB setups are used more in home audio situations not as much in car audio. Sorry to have to tell you this but the best thing you can do is try to sell it and this time buy a sub like an SSD or look into other brands on this site that also sell subs that are not IB subs.
  21. Thats funny dude. IB is infinite baffle. There isnt an enclosure. Those speakers are made to sit like any other regular car speaker. Ie: in the rear deck where a 6x9 might sit. Welcome dude. well what i mean is like enclosure size. because right now i have it in a small prefab and its not putting nearly as much sound as it sould What he is saying is that it is not meant to be in an enclosure (As it is stated in the information about the sub). It is made to be mounted similar to speakers that are in your rear deck. As in no enclosure.
  22. You need to look at something like an SSD. Did you already buy it?
  23. Why do you want it to be sealed? How you have decribed what your goals are I think you would be better stepping down to a 10" sub and porting it. Just build a good enclosure for it and tune it to your liking and you will be more pleased than you would be having a sealed 12" sub.
  24. im in omaha nebraska.. wonder what shipping would run? ahat size, cubes, tuning is the box? pics? I live in omaha too. I'm sure shipping will be atleast $50. Are you looking at building your own or buying one?
  25. The SSD is a daily driver sub and can be good in either sealed or ported. You can always turn the gain down if it cant handle it but it should be fine handling that amp. you would be better off getting the SSD. I think in your original post we said you werent a Q buyer based on what you wanted out of the sub not based on the amp. The SSD is a better fit if you were told to look into the BL. I would wait until the new models come out in March.
