  1. I'll have to try it tomorrow, I don't think sleeping neighbors will be too happy if I tried now. Do I 1. play a tone with the LOC connected and turn the hu to 3/4. Then, 2. Unplug LOC RCAs and plug in the iPod RCAs and turn ipod to about 3/4 and play same tone. Then, 3. Note any difference?
  2. Well I'm not exactly sure how to compare them. Should I leave my gains how they were with the LOC?
  3. At about 75% volume, I tested the voltage coming out of the speaker terminals on the amp. The number I was shooting for was 34 volts (using the volts=sqrt(watts X ohm) formula). Even with the gains maxed the highest I could get was about 21 volts. Although with the ipod maxed 34 volts was EASILY reached (gains at about 1/4) Not sure what this means as I was able to achieve 34 volts using the LOC with hu volume at about 75%
  4. Okay, went out and bought the cable. Now when testing the amp/voltage with the ipod connected, do I turn the volume on the ipod to about 3/4 (what the hu would be at) or do I turn the ipod all the way up?
  5. I'm liking it too. Just wish the aux wasn't in the back.
  6. On a side note, I might go tonight. I'm getting eager
  7. Nearest walmart is 25-30 min. And Radioshack is probably closed
  8. Alright. I'll let everyone know what the outcome is.
  9. Sounds like a plan. I think I'll head to Radioshack tomorrow. Thanks a lot.
  10. Interesting. Never heard of doing that. I will try it out. But then none of the other speakers will play anything, right? Just the sub?
  11. iPod straight to the amp? How would you do that?
  12. Just swapped the wires on the box and tested the sub that way. It sounds the same both ways.
  13. You mean the pos and neg terminals on the outside of the box, correct? Nevermind, of course it's those. And what would happen if everything is wired correctly?
  14. You mean the pos and neg terminals on the outside of the box, correct?
  15. Yes, phase went back to zero (didn't make a difference). I may pull the speaker out later to check that wiring.
  16. Okay, good. That is what I did (although I used a 50hz tone) But voltage was reading 34.
  17. Oh yeah, if I turn the bass on the hu up, it continuously gets louder, but I know that may not be a clean signal. Correct me if I'm wrong, using the Voltage = sqrt(RMS X impedance) formula.. Then, Voltage= sqrt(1200 X 1) Since I'm using an sae 1200d and the speaker is wired to 1 ohm. So sqrt of 1200 is about 34. OR, would I use the impedance of 2? (What the speaker actually is)?
  18. Just checked the voltage of the RCAs again, for some reason both are back down to .5 What would be the consequence of connecting the LOC to one speaker backwards? (polarity wise) I give up. Time to get serious about a new head unit.
  19. Reasons why? I see it has 2 volt pre amps. I was shooting for 4.
  20. Well, looks like my first response didn't show up I do actually like the look of the Kenwood more too. But I try to keep functionality>looks. Hmm, my ipod is jailbroken, so, not sure how that will work with the head unit. Would probably just get the aux plugs.
  21. I'm still not getting the full output of my sub (BL 12), most likely because of low/bad signals from the LOC crudely tapped into the rear speakers at the moment. But I would like to get a new head unit that will give me nice clean signals straight from the head unit. I've narrowed it down to these two (although I'm open for suggestions, like always). I've read on the Steve Meade Forums that this line of the Pioneer head unit was great. But the Kenwood seems very similar. I would like to hear some opinions. http://www.crutchfield.com/s_130P6200BT/Pioneer-DEH-P6200BT.html?tp=5684 http://www.crutchfield.com/s_113KDCX794/Kenwood-Excelon-KDC-X794.html?tp=5684
  22. Yes. The levels were already at max from factory. Really? That's weird. Does it have a setting like an amplifier gain with markings such as 0.5v to 6v? Or just a + and -? No Cheap $20 Audiopipe.
  23. "cut the other rear" Hmm.. Better explanation please on what you mean? The other rear speaker, you said you only had one wire cut from one of the rear speakers wired to the LOC, now you have the other one to that same rear cut and connected to your LOC increasing voltage to 1v right? You can cut the other speaker wires as well. But my rear deck is only composed of 2 speakers..
