Yet again, another gain and filters question(s)
Hey fellow SSA members, tonight i am devoted to learn this to the fullest, so there will be a lot written.. and questions as i go along, big thanks goes out to ANeonRider because this is all based off his How To: Set your Amplifier Gain - SSA Car Audio Forum (I'll be working at the thread for about 30min to an hour before posting) THIS IS GOING TO HAVE QUESTIONS THAT ARE DUMB... but i need to ask them to get it clear and have no doubts. To figure out what voltage you should set the gains to, multiply the RMS power of the amplifiers output by the impedance of the speaker, then find the square root of that number. -- I'm going to be using: PDX 4.100 Alpine Type R comps *4 ohm* So my speakers will be 4 ohms.. so i need to multiply the RMS from the amp by the ohms of my speaker which is 4 ohms Well... 100 x 4 = 400... square root of 400 is 20 So the voltage of my amp should be 20 volts Okay, now we have that established. (20v) -WHAT TEST TONE DO I NEED???? A. Below in yellow it says "Subwoofer volume control on the headunit and/or a bass knob set to the maximum before you set the gains on the SUB AMP. 1. But........ the same for front stage amp, right? 2. I am not setting the gain for a sub amp..... so i don't have to put the subwoofer volume to the max right? -- do i set anything in replace of subwoofer volume to max? 3. No bass knob with my amp B. Below in yellow it says "Take the leads from the DMM and put them on the outputs from the amp" 1. On the PDX is says input -- same thing? 2. How do i touch the leads from the DMM to the outputs on the amp? 3. Can i put both leads on one output? 4. Or does it have to be on 1on1 -- 1on1? C. Below in yellow it says "Set the gain so that the outputs of the amplifier equal the voltage you found above. This is a MUST." 1. What setting on the DMM should it be set too? 2. i turn the gain with a little screwdriver untill it reads 20v, right? Setting the Gain(s) To set the gain(s), you need two things: --1. A DMM --2. A test tone CD ---Now, to set the gain(s): --1. Start the vehicle, and pop the test tone CD in the head unit. --2. DO NOT hook up the sub(s) or speaker(s) ---Now, time to set up the head unit. -----a. Car turned on. -----b. If the loudest you listen to your music is 22/35 with bass @ +3 and treble @ 0 on, use those settings. -----c. Subwoofer volume control on the headunit and/or a bass knob set to the maximum before you set the gains on the sub amp. --4. Take the leads from the DMM and put them on the outputs from the amp. --5. Set the gain so that the outputs of the amplifier equal the voltage you found above. This is a MUST.

Does anyone have these?
I don't really know how this stuff works just yet, but.. would i be able to install these with my front stage? I would have to buy 4 though, correct? -- I'm guessing 4 of these would be over kill? Front Stage: (2) Alpine Type R 6.5 component sets Front Stage Amp: (1) Alpine PDX 4.100

My Kenwood KDC-MP342U won't save settings after powering off
LOL good stuff. Would you like a wiring guide to make sure everything else is connected right? You know make sure your speakers arent out of phase and what not? Just need to know year, make and model of the vehicle. Yes, if you don't mind. I already have it apart. Uploading pictures now. Truck is in sig. Constant 12V+ Orange Switched 12V+ Yellow Ground Black Illumination Gray Dimmer Brown Antenna Trigger Pink Left Front (+) Tan Left Front (-) Gray Right Front (+) Light Green Right Front (-) Dark Green Left Rear (+) Brown Left Rear (-) Yellow Right Rear (+) Dark Blue Right Rear (-) Light Blue Here you go pal, hope this helps.... I have an orange wire unconnected, i remember hooking everything up and not remembering where it goes so i left it undone. I also have a black wire unconnected. Orange should be where your yellow wire goes, but if that wire is bad (reasoning for running a new wire) then you need to just cover it up. Black should ground,.......should. Wait, i don't follow.. Is the yellow wire coming from the truck bad? or the wire coming from the head unit bad? Do i change the orange with the yellow or not? Cover what up? EDIT: Also, there is a black wire from my head unit that isn't connected.. Should i ground that (guessing it is a ground wire) Also, what should i do about the black wire coming from the truck? Ok. The yellow wire from your kenwood needs to be connected to a constant 12 volt wire (stays hot all the time). The orange wire in the vehicle should be the constant 12 volt wire, but it could be bad or a fuse could be blown for that wire. You mentioned someone ran a new hot wire from the battery to the radio......this wire...whatever color it may be needs to be connected to the yellow wire on the kenwood. The red wire on the kenwood needs to be connected to a wire that cuts on/off with the ignition key. The "factory" vehicle wire should be yellow. Yellow wire from kenwood to batt wire Yellow wire from truck to red wire from kenwood Correct? Yes. Correct. That should fix your problem as long as all the wires are good. Hope this helps....im going to bed. lol I'm rewiring them now... laptop + wifi FTW! I'll see whether it works ina sec thank you 4runner!!!!!!!

2 12's or 2 10's for small 4 dr sedan?
A good friend of mine told me the same thing. Go with 2 12's! You are going to want more anyway! I just don't want to overpower my mids and highs. I've been in vehicles where all you hear is the bass, this is NOT what I want! So say I have to 12's what is the difference between turning down the gain on the amp to the sub and actually turning it down on the deck? BTW to answer your question it's not my first sub setup, I have 1 memphis audio 10 right now but I want more then that obviously. I have never heard your front stage nor the sub stage you are asking about, but.. i wouldn't worry too much about over powering your front stage. I don't know if your H/U has EQ settings, like rock, pop, top 40, natural, etc etc but these settings, (EQ settings) will help you balance your audio equipment so nothing "over powers" anything.
