  1. 3 weeks since I ordered the windscreen, it still hasn't left the UK. If it doesn't rain I'm picking up the Miata today
  2. It's related as context. I'm not among the few to feel safe. But it's a bit taken out of context, with 15 times more people in the US compared to here, there will be statistically more crazy people. Absolutely, swaying people in one direction or another is very easy. We deal with a russian mediatic war, with lots of websites backed by the russinans spewing out all sorts of pseudo-patriotic fake news, pointing the finger at the west, saying the western world is denying our heritage and history and they have a lot of middle-aged people and young people without education believing them. Nobody is saying directly "Russia is better than the rest of Europe" but that's what they plant everywhere. It's easier for simple minds to believe the weather problems now (hail storms) are happening because of russian weather weapons instead of global warming. A whole 'nother can of worms. Big words scare people. It sucks that you have to level the playing field. It sucks that with or without a legal ban people who use guns to break the law will continue to own guns. I'm not a supporter of a ban but of education and some form verification (control is too much). It is...over here driving tests are pretty lax, there's a plan to introduce 4 types of driving tests (along with the theoretical test), including night driving. When I got my motorcycle license the entire driving school consisted of going around cones and I never ever shifted out of first gear. Now the motorcycle license test includes city driving.
  3. That's why I asked before just saying "ban this ban that" since there always are two sides to that story. Same reason why I asked about why there were no guns in the crowd at the Orlando shooting. I don't know, in this part of the world and for me it does seem weird to carry as a precaution.
  4. And not just gun safety. Education in general would fix a lot of problems. Literacy, world history, geography and some basic science.
  5. So who's there to decide that? And why do you have to carry a weapon almost all times? What tests / exams / checks are needed in order to buy a fully automatic weapon? From that point of view I live in the greatest country in the world. Do you want to walk across town at 2-3 AM? No problem, nobody's going to do anything to you. Shootings? What are those?
  6. From yesterday Almost done yesterday with the bondo (more than recommended but hey it is what it is...) Bumpers and fenders are primered. The rest of the car should be primered today and the paint arrives today. Beltline mouldings and tires are on their way. Don't know where the windscreen is and the rest of the parts (cowl cover, suspension and framerails) will have to wait a bit.
  7. I like turbos and Miatas. It has a turbo, it's a Miata. I like it. I like the looks better, too.
  8. Tires ordered. I'm going to order the framerail reinforcements soon, since I want it to feel solid without a hardtop. Having the reinforcements makes a world of difference.
  9. Progress: On Tuesday it should be all in high build primer.
  10. Oh, most definitely it's the crazy people involved. I'm not the one to blame the tool, it's just that with some many sane citizens owning guns it would make sense that somebody would stop him sooner. After the disaster we had here, when a nighclub caught fire and 64 people died, biggest death toll since the revolution in 1988, my girlfriend's employer brought in an ex CIA of FBI guy who now holds lectures about safety during such events and he mentioned quite a few shootings with handguns involved, even one when a guy went to a company party and killed 7 out of over 200, since the rest managed to get out in time.
  11. In the garage are the rest of the Miata parts, you can just spot the bumper. Plus some in the other garage. I have lots more pics and way more coming once I put it back together. The car to the side is a 2002 Citroen Xsara, Vlad's old car which we call The French Love Machine, The Citroen, The xSSAra etc etc. Soon to be walled with two Zcons and two Z1's
  12. Gun free per choice, not enforced ?
  13. Absolutely chilling event What the fuck is wrong with people? There's one radicalist preacher in the UK who claims gay should be executed publicly. Come on man, it's not like they're going to rape you if you turn your back towards them... People shouldn't care who shags who as long as it's consensual, legal and nobody tries to convince me their boner material should be come my boner material... Some stupid broad was interviewed on the national radio station, one minute she's bragging about how tolerant she is, the next minute she goes on to say that gay couples are wrong and are a bad example for children. But she's still tolerant. On the other hand, I read a lot of comments of people saying they have guns and if the bad guys come, pew-pew, no more bad guys. Where were all those people? Is that mentality not popular in Florida? No trying to stir shit, just thinking out loud.
  14. From Romania, with love.
  15. Call me as lazy as you want, I wouldn't want to move that by shovel That's not a metric tonne, is it ? I remember when I used to load 20+ metric tonnes in dump trucks with the backhoe and it was way more than that.
  16. What's the point ?
  17. How about Nokian zLine? I'm running them on the Jeep, quiet, sticky and not pricey. But now I have to figure out if 16" wheels will clear my brakes, I want General Grabber AT2's (similar to the BFG AT) for winter and off-road use.
  18. Same here... Two of my coworkers have competed in various mountain bike competitions. On plain ground I can easily leave them behind but as soon as we find a hill, I'm sloooow.
  19. Told ya
  20. They are not noisy themselves but they lack the noise rejection circuitry which "in-a-box" DSPs have. With the Pioneer fix on one of the amps, isolated DC supply for the phone and for the miniDSP and it still had some noise.
  21. I can see light at the end of the tunnel, can't wait to drive it. Winter driving will be limited to when it's nice and dry, no more plowing through snow and slush.
  22. Final color: I was swaying between a dark grey from a few brands, the painter's car is an Opel just like that so it was easy to tell him what color I want. Plus it looks ok with chrome accents, so I won't have to repaint my door handles and hardtop mounts.
  23. Windscreen is in transit from the UK, so it's going to be another 2 weeks until it gets here, I will have time to install all the other things. I found the soft-top rain rail was cracked and leaking in water, it's ready and waiting in the garage. I still have to order: cowl cover (mine is broken, all the OEM ones break), beltline mouldings, frame rail reinforcements, tires, suspension, oil. Reinstall is going to be something like Lego combined with a puzzle, I have a dozen cups of screws and a ton of parts spread out in 2 garages. I might have Vlad (other half of Accuwave) leave his 95 Miata as a reinstall guide for me.
  24. The Miata has been at the painter for a week now. Just my luck, the hood flew open 500 yards from the painter's stop and got smashed. Replacement should be here tomorrow then the work can continue.
  25. Nice work !
