Welcome to the IHoP
Seems like everyone importing deep cycle's here wants an arm and a leg for one Can't fit in the jeep one of the beasts my friend has (135Ah, 3500CCA) which is the only battery I can find here that won't cost you over $400.

Welcome to the IHoP
I've been looking at 2200+ square foot homes for the 200K range. They are beat up on forclosure, or bank owned but the purchase price is sometimes as low as 160. 40K in materials and labor I can't do is more than enough in most cases too. Even comparing to what we have here, it's an awesome price. Shit, an ~700 sqft appartment is in the 150k range over here

Fi Subwoofer for Home Theatre?
Who said that ? What classifies a sub as "made for car" or "made for home" ? They make dual 2's and lots of plate amps are stable at 4 ohms. No reason why you couldn't put on sub in the house.
-
how do I calculate port area
It's still too little surface for 1 18. I would go with ~100sqin for each sub to be safe from port noise.

Test tone level
I will try those too. And look for the cd I used to set the gains in my car

Test tone level
What felt weird when I used the 0dB tones was that even with a 40.1 on a single 15, it wasn't enough to keep up with music from the front stage. Should I blame the ROE test tones ? IIRC there was a site with a bunch of test tones you could download (it had instruments passages, channel tests and sine waves) but I can't find it

Re-thinking the home system
Haven't tried either alone but I will as soon as possible. I forgot to mention I have some sort of L-pad, for ~2dB cut Thanks again for the input.

Re-thinking the home system
Thanks I'm going to try to cross them higher and see what happens. Probably not going to wind inductors before finals are over.

Welcome to the IHoP
Pics. Or ban ! You want pics of the cars I test drove? LOL I took out a mazarati Quatroport a few months back. I thought the CTS was a more responsive car. Slower yes, but much more responsive. You said something about a porsche and for some reason I understood your GF has a porsche

Re-thinking the home system
Updates : Half the sub amp crapped out on me as soon as I finished the box so now I'm running the xxx with 500w. Plenty to keep me happy I've bought a Rotel pre-amp and I'm using my old rack amp for the mains. I also found some old ply and built a test enclosure for the ca18. It's about 0.7cf, ported at 40hz, far bigger compared to the old sealed one. First impression : nice improvement in midbass, but it's lacking a bit on the vocals. Right now the HDS has only a cap in series and the ca18 is running full-range so I suspect the problems are either some standing waves in the cabinet (correct me if I'm talking BS) or the lack of crossover.
