a perfect sealed alignment according to software is around .2 cf and Mike recomends bigger sealed boxes. that's why it seems weird to see a ported box recomendations smaller than sealed

I am a big fan. In your case if it is a 7" driver you need the W18NX is stellar, I would prefer it to the Excels that I have in my car. less break-up because of the cone material ?
