Switching SSH/VNC over to a different port than the service usually uses will help negate random servers from trying to connect to your IP. You can also setup a firewall to only accept connections from specific IPs. IE: at work you go to some site like whatsmyip.org, write it down, and add it to the safe list on the firewall on the home computer. The only tricky part is some networks don't have static IPs so after some time your work IP may change and now it won't be able to connect home. If the latter happens there's ways to get around it, but I won't go into detail unless it becomes an issue. So between obfuscation, firewall, and a strong password I would consider it pretty damn safe.

If you open the drive in windows and copy & paste everything over to another drive without any errors popping up than using linux to do the same would be pointless. You can also right click on the drive, see the info on how many files total and GB size then check against everything you copied over to the other drive. Making sure the file count is the same, and the GB size is same. But if copying the stuff in windows works for ten minutes than shows a red progress bar with some BS error than I'd just use linux to play it safe.

It's funny sometimes my mother's friend will have some computer problem, and to make everything super simple I'll tell her to go to a webpage ie: stefanhinote.com/givemeaccess and it'll run an exploit on the browser to spawn a vnc process than I can connect to her desktop and fix her problem. Or she changed her email password doesn't remember what it is, but it still works on her phone, So I connect to her desktop, arp spoof the network, catch the email password when the phone checks every 15min, and copy it over to the desktop. Last time she changed her windows password so I had to physically get up and drive down.

If for some reason it's still being problematic after changing owner settings download a Linux live-cd to a usb drive, boot from the usb-drive, and use it to copy and paste over, it won't give you any grief. It's a bit of an over the top solution, but downloading, copying to usb drive, and booting would take less than 15 minutes. After 5 minutes of searching I just realized that downloading one will be the lengthiest process....when it includes figuring out which one. I always multitask and have a ton of shit to do that would be great on another monitor. I'd rather add an output and monitor and keep my desk otherwise, but have my home pc in the office. Same thing when I am around the house dicking around on the PC. Being on the home pc free's up a lot of redundant programming and fuckery to get other shit sync'd to my laptop or other pc's/tablets around the house. I use ssh for anything that doesn't use a gui. So if I need to open a text file, edit source code, or run a program then it's all ssh. That I'm not sure about. I'll have to start up windows and test with my laptop later.

Change the default port vnc is using, port forward the router, use a strong password, and over the net you go! As long as internet speed is decent.

I have no IDE ports but one of my old ass USB HDD enclosures does. I've seen a high of 9MB/s Oh fuck. That's pretty funny cause when I read your earlier post with "IDE" I didn't understand.

Another PITA I've dealt with. For my father we copied his calendar into a Google account, and synced with that, but it wasn't reliable. We finally ended up copying the calendar over to an exchange server. If you find another solution let me know.

When I think of vnc (remote desktop) I think of TightVNC and RealVNC, and I get the names mixed up, but I remember them being super straight forward. So if TightVNC ends up being a pain try realvnc. As to how I found it, I honestly don't remember, I've been using it for years. Just another thing I've picked up over the last six years meddling with computers.

You're definitely in a tough spot as you have little control, I was in the same boat. If you can't find anyone to make the alt than I'd look into getting an oem denso/bosch to replace yours if it can't be fixed, grab another battery, and lower the gain on the sub amp. I know it sucks, but not much else can be done.

Alt companies don't frequent the forums, so don't expect them to come to you. There has been a few people here who have had good luck with Singer alternators, http://singeralternators.com/ I sorta hate even mentioning them, but you might check DC Power Engineering, http://dcpowerinc.com You'd have to email them because they don't always list everything they make on their site. Their alts are great, but at times their C/S and turn over time is terrible. So I would consider them as last resort. The possibility of buying an oem alt and shipping it off to someone to "up" the amperage isn't the best idea. Generally they'll end up rewiring the internals, swapping alt pulley, and you might end up with more amperage at high rpm, but it'll be worse than stock at lower rpms, and the case hasn't been changed to deal with the extra heat build up so reliability is questionable.

I would look into Sundown, Incriminator Audio, and Crescendo. Everyone on the forums seem to be happy with them. I would steer clear of Skar Audio, the owner is sketchy. Kicker, Rockford, JBL, JL, MTX, etc are all nice too but cost a significant amount more than the original three suggestions.

BC I'm planning on using 4 So you have a budget of $800 total for amps for your subs, and want the most power you can get? Do you have an additional budget to upgrade your electrical? Doesn't make much sense to drop $800 for a bunch of amps if your electrical isn't up to par, and I highly doubt replacing the battery with an AGM is going to be enough. I'm not trying to be rude but if you would read I will upgrade electrical That is not included in budget as I was always planning on it and just dont see the use in rerplacing a functional battery that has not faultered a bit with what i am running currently. I am already running 3 amps on it i plan on changing them all out to a better line possably same manufacturer. If you would have read you would notice that my current budgetis non existent so I am simply trying to get a broader range of ideas. With zero change in impedance, and 100% efficiency from the amp(s) that would require 5000w/14.4v=347amperes Say I'm being over optimistic, and you'd be happy with 2500watts, 2500w/14.4v=174amperes From what I could gather(which may be incorrect), the 07 mini coopers have an alternator rated for 105amperes, and it's not common for manufacturer's to use larger than necessary alternators as it's not cost effective and doesn't help with the HP and mpg. So I would presume that upwards of 80-90% of what the alternator is rated for is what the stock electrical demands, but let's say it only uses half, so 105a/2=50amperes. So you have 50amperes from the alternator, and say you have a big AGM battery like the xs power 5100 with an AH rating of 60, so for one hour it can discharge 60amperes at 12v? Let's pretend it could do that at 14v though. So for one hour you have ~110amps. 110amps is a lot less than 170amps or 350amps, so much so that voltage would quickly drop below 12v, you would risk ruining all electronics, and ultimately end up with a dead battery. Back to reality, the alt doesn't have a 50% excess in amperage, your amps aren't anywhere near 100% efficient, impedance on the amps aren't constant, and I didn't account for any amps you may be using for the front stage. So my suggestion would be getting a high output alternator if you plan on running anywhere near my speculated figures of power. I originally asked why you wanted to use two amplifiers, when one amplifier alone could easily surpass your vehicle's electrical. If your original post was clearer than perhaps I wouldn't have "ragged" on you about trying to use so much power with little change to the electrical system. I know if I were in your shoes I would most likely opt for a smaller amplifier that doesn't require all these costly upgrades as the amount spent and the gain in output wouldn't be worth it to me, and especially considering all the cone area you have available. Though as you have pointed out I don't have any degree to support anything I've said, so feel free to disagree. and thats why volvos are the best ladies and gentleman! I don't see how that's relevent or correct in ANY way.
