  1. not you, i meant the recession lol, a fan would be ideal to push air, but i meant pushin air with ported boxes haha
  2. very true, damn you recession, its because of you, i cant manage to have 4 12"s in my ford explorer pushin air lmao
  3. agree, your setup I bet is more tuned since it requires lower frequencys. For a basic setup i think 50Hz is alright.
  4. as far as i know, when you set your gains and use a mp3 player via AUX input, you should set it to the max, then set your HU to where you think you hear no distortion, at that point start moving your gain up. when you use test tones, make sure its 50hz, thats the usual sub sound, i heard of people using others, but if your just doing a basic sub setup, stick with 50hz 0 db mp3 turn q off or to the lowest setting if anything i said is wrong please correct me SSA members
  5. same here bro, ive been searchin forums left and right for info, but this site right here, gives you all the info you need plus a great a** community, full of people who know what there doing. one more time, SSA FTW!!
  6. when im bringing home more money, ill take a O-scope into consideration, but as of right now, i think the DMM is doing just what i need, I AM A redo my gain settings, i need to set the treble before i start adjusting the gain. SSA FTW! thanks guys
  7. I dont use the bass knob, heard from to many people that it increases distortion, IE, the dirty signals, so i keep it off. My HU maxes at 35, so the max i go up to is 26. When i did my gains with the DMM, 26 was the highest i went on my HU with the 50 Hz tone on repeat
  8. well yea i followed those instructions, my settings on the HU when i setted it was -8 bass, -8 treble. After i setted the gain with my DMM, i turned the treble up to 0.
  9. hell yea super fast response, thanks for the input guys deeply appreciated SSA FTW!!
  10. thanks CrazyKenKid for the feedback, so with that all being said, im pretty much set on my gains, one other question, lately my cars been smelling like the new subwoofer smell, i havent push my subs to hard since its still pretty new, is that normal?
  11. hey everyone, so today i went to harbor freight tools, got a DMM on sale for 3.00 dollars, the name brand was cen-tech, heres the link CEN-TECH MULIMETER so anyways i got home, logged on, looked on the stickies for the Setting gain with DMM tut and i done everything i was suppose to, minimized HU Settings, bass, treble, etc, used a 50 hz tone 0 db, and when i connected the DMM to the speaker output with no load, i had to set the gain almost at 3/4 to get my voltage i have a hifonics bxi 1200 watt amp at 1 ohm load on 2 12" pioneer 308D4 rated at 400 rms per sub HU is kenwood MPC205, 2 volts at sub pre-out 1200 wrms at 1 ohm load so 34.64 Volts is what im striving for on my dmm right? For some reason my meter can only read up to 3 digits for example, when i set my gain 3/4 up, i get to 34.6 volts as a reading on my DMM, is that ok? i dont want to overstress my amp, so would lowering the volts to 33.6 be safer on my amp? and by the way i forgot to mention that the DMM can read ACV at a 750 volt scale or a 200volt scale and i set it to 200 volt scale is that ok? thanks again guys
  12. thanks guys for the quick reply, ill finish the big 3, and let you guys know whats up, like i said, thanks again for all who gave me feedback
  13. hi guys this is my set-up, I purchased a new hifonics BXI1210D from vminovations to connect to my set of pioneer ts308D4 at 1 ohm in a dual ported box, should i be alright? any tips in makin my install better? Any good ideas on setting the gain or any other settings? current set up on my Ford 1995 Explorer 4 dr -kenwood mpc205 HU with 2volts at the sub preout -2 12" 308D4 pioneer 400rms each, final impedance is 1 ohm -Ported box at 1.65-1.70 cu per chamber (rough estimate) -4 gauge wiring from ebay -1000 cold cranking amp everstart battery from walmart -partial big 3, 4 gauge from + battery to + on alternator -80 amp fuse 12 inches from battery -level 1/2 up, LPF 1/3 up, SUBsonic filter 1/2 up -stock alternator -stock speakers my HU maxes out at 35, and when i turn my volume up to like 25, with my headlamps start to dim, when the bass drops, so I think i should complete the BIG 3 and hopefully this will go away right? if not i want to get a 3-6 farad capacitor, I hear alot of people talkin down on capacitors, saying that it will cause more stress on my electrical system, but i hear alot of people saying that it cures light dimming problem, so whats the issue behind this guys? thanks for any feedback in advance guys
