  13. Sweet, as stated I've chosen my two primary visuals...but I will also be using some visuals as secondary sources. That's actually sparked a great idea, have a section featuring member installs from 2-3 forums I visit the most. YAY! And of course, all of them will be cited accordingly. More than anything, I am looking for opinions/discussion of my thesis statement, like whether you believe it is truthful. How we could persuade someone not interested in car audio at all...that it is in fact a lifestyle. Thanks! NG
  14. Just chose a picture I took myself of Scottie's White van. On to the aspect of using this thread (if it turns to fruitful discussion) as a source. Any discussion or advice on the thesis? Thanks! NG
  15. Whew. Well, I'm doing a research paper based on Car Audio, imagine that. The catch is, it is a persuasive research paper and it must use two sources of visual rhetoric as it's primary sources. I am also required to have various other sources, and I plan on using this website as on of the other sources...particularly this thread. Visual Rhetoric: For our uses, we will define visual rhetoric as the fairly recent development of a theoretical framework describing how visual images communicate, as opposed to aural or verbal messages. The study of visual rhetoric is different from that of visual or graphic design, in that it emphasizes images as rational expressions of cultural meaning, as opposed to mere aesthetic consideration (Kress 18). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_rhetoric One of my pictures will be of the Alpine X5 2005 Demo car. I believe it's amazing. I'm looking for another image, and also some input/discussion based on this thesis statement. Thesis: By examining the different media and cultural outlets devoted to car audio, we can show how car audio is more than a product; it can be a lifestyle. Thanks for any discussion/input. NG
  16. Pics... Out of the box Testing the waters free-air Going for gold WOW I couldn't get enough of the Rl-s @full xmax free-air...it was a thing of beauty...pure bliss. Ask Jason...I had to keep unpausing...just one more time!!! lol... Some higher resolution pics will be up later, as well as in the enclosure excursion shots...and hopefully a vid NG
  17. Well guys (and gals)... Sorry for the not-so-punctual update. But I've been busy...busy marveling at this thing ... First of all I'd like to thank Mike for the amazing opportunity to demo such a great subwoofer. Now, to get things started... WOW. I opened the box, and that is all I said. This thing is massive, especially for a 12. Obviously, with quad stacked mags...and the gigantic motor...but pics do not do it justice. The clearance on this basket is a thing of glory...I mean view you get of the coil and top of the former...an the dual spiders is simply amazing. (get used to this word) I was quite happy to get my hands on it, especially since I was going to be the first person to actually get to send it some power!!!! WOO! Although, I have less than perfect enclosures for the task. Oh well. I basically dropped it in the box I have for my 15MT. Made a large baffle for a 12, and plopped it on top. The box is 4.6 cubes @32hz with 90in^2 of port. To tell you, at first I had one MTX 1501d hooked up...and to tell the honest truth...I was sort of disappointed. Then again, I know this thing isn't the most efficient . So, without hesitation, I went for some real power! The Power supplied by a pair of MTX 1501d's strapped @4ohms (each amp seeing a 2ohm load...read as 2500+ watts total). WOW! wowowowowowowowow, this single 12 is REDICULOUS! I mean INSANE! The shear displacement capabilities are out of this world. It's obviously unlike any woofer I've experienced to date. The driver had no hints of any distortion, took whatever I threw at it and reproduced it with exact precision. In this particular box (which is obviously not optimal) it struggled with higher bass. When I say struggled, I do not mean it struggled to produce it...I mean it struggle to produce it with as much enthusiasm as every other frequency. That's ok, that's why I have sealed mids with 13MM one-way xmax...and 200+rms per side (My XXX mids). So I adjusted my xover to have the sub on 50hz HP @24 dB/oct slope. Anyways, it's a great subwoofer. With LOADS of obivously LINEAR displacement capabilities. Give it power, and it will give you TONS of loving in forms you'd never imagine from a single 12. It's simply amazing. In the few remaining days, I will try to see if I can throw it in a sealed enclosure. I'll update if necessary. NG
  18. Wait till I get a chance to type up my little experiences It's currently in 4.7 cubes NET @30hz...with strapped 1501d's on it So around I'd say bare minimum of 2500 watts. NG
  19. In a hatch, I'd shoot for aroun 2.5-2.7 cubes NET sealed, firing upwards. Should work out well with your power. NG
  20. Who's that DB in the 6th picture of Dave's post?!?!?!? NG
  21. Last I talked to Nick, he said there wasn't enough interest in components to even "carry" the anymore. That was at Finals... NG
  22. wOOt! NG
  23. In th near future (like next weekend)... they'll have an IA 20.1 on them @.5ohms Jason's mags + Dave's 20.1 + My truck = MAD WANGAGE... Gotta throw my truck in there b/c neither of them have the electrical stability, the wiring, or just plain COOLNESS of the POS Dakota NG PS: Can't wait!
