Remote wire help
So remote wire from HU to relay, relay to barrier strip, barrier strip to your amps. What role does the jumper play? I'm a little lost. Also, there's another thing I'm confused about. The remote turn-on from inside the dash mates up with the turn-on lead from the head unit. So at what point do you put the relay in? Car audio really pisses me off, but I love it so much.

Remote wire help
I'm north of Detroit about 45 minutes, place called Port Huron. I'm sure you've heard of it. Stupid blue water bridge makes this place famous for no reason.

Remote wire help
As of right now, a JL e1800D (running at 2ohm), JL e2150, and a Clarion APX4241. When I get around to doing the big system, sundown will be my brand of choice.

Remote wire help
I've searched here and there, been to the12volt, etc etc etc. I'm still a little bit confused on how exactly to wire three amps with one remote wire. I've photochopped something from the12volt to illustrate my issue. Not much of a photoshop, but you get the idea. The question is this: Do I splice each remote wire from the three amps into the same single wire coming from the relay? Thanks for any advice.

Amp, ohms, target voltage, confusion.
Now why oh why would I ever want to blow my sub? Because then I wouldn't hear quite as much complaining when I haaaaaaaaaaave to buy a new one Other than that, thanks for the input. I was very confused, and now I'm not. Cheers-

Amp, ohms, target voltage, confusion.
So I'm not new to car audio, but I'm new to the fine tuning. Years ago, I'd wire a sub to an amp and be done with it. Now, I've found that it's a little more technical than that. Here's my issue: I'm doing the 'gain setting,' and I'm not sure how to calculate the target voltage. I read somewhere that when you run a dual 4ohm sub, you have the double the target voltage, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. The target voltage of my current sub amp is 43.8@ 4ohms, 42@3ohms and 40@2ohms. I'm running an old JL 12W3v2, dual 4ohm sub. I have it wired in parallel, so I can bring it down to 2ohms. Does that mean that my target voltage is now 80? My brain is going to start spilling out of my ears.

The plans are nearly complete
Do you mean the JVC HU is beautiful? And I agree with you completely! The functionality of that thing is just outstanding. Apparently, it's one of the most customizable head units released in quite a while. I guess I'm sticking with a pattern, because I bought a Panasonic CQ-C9800U when they were brand new. (Waaaaaaay ahead of its time.) I've had that thing for a good 5 years now, and it still works flawlessly. As for the amp, I was planning on a sundown for the mids but I'm very particular about matching my amp power with the recommended power to the mids. The Clarion produces the exact 'max' wattage for the DLS set. I won't be pushing them to the limit, so I should be safe. What focal set do you have?

I actually used to read that site religiously. I liked it better when he had all the testing stuff, before he started selling his own. A lot more informative then, ya know? I'm gonna stick with raam mat, because I've put it in before and I know what I'm getting into. The last thing I need is some new thing that takes me two or three days, and then I realize that I screwed it all up because I'm unfamiliar with it.

No, not really. Just advice on what I should change, what I should avoid, etc. I've never heard the focals in person, but I have heard the DLS and I was quite impressed. Basically, I'm hoping someone with some extended experience with one or more of the things I listed could give me some pointers.

The plans are nearly complete
I'm sure there are a ton of these posts, but I figured I'd throw mine out there and get some insight. Kinetik HC1400 JVC El Kameleon 12" AA Havoc Sundown 1500D Clarion DPX2251 DLS Ultimate UP6i RaaMmat BXT I mainly listen to rock/metal, and I need to have high volume levels with as little distortion as possible. The thing I'm concerned about the most is the 'DLS' speakers. As far as I've searched, (just about everywhere,) they've gotten rave reviews. My prior selection was a set of Focal 165KRX2's, so the DLS setup is a huge drop in price. The cost isn't all that big of a deal, but it does play a factor. Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. However, if you wanna throw out a negative opinion and not offer a suggestion, go somewhere else. I'm sure there's some other info I could add that would assist everyone in giving me advice, so just ask away.

A lot has changed in car audio
Can I get a ballpark number? Are they around $200 each for 12's? $300?

A lot has changed in car audio
See this is where I was lost. I was unaware you could do that. I like this place. I asked a question, and it was answered. Another question: How much are the 12" havocs? And the 15"?

A lot has changed in car audio
I'm planning a system. So far, it's gonna be a havoc 12 with some sort of sundown powering it. Here's my issue: when it comes to ohms and all that other stuff, I'll admit I get a little confused. I was planning my system based on a simple premise: If amplifier A puts out X amount of watts at 2ohms, and you pair it with a 2ohm sub, you would get X amount of watts. Easy enough, right? Well now, I'm getting the impression that things go further than that. I had planned on getting a sundown 3500D amp, considering it puts out 1,750w at 2ohms. That with the 12" havoc 2ohm sub would be a nice fit, right? (AA states the havoc to be 1,250RMS and I could go easy on the amp power) BUT Now I'm reading about guys using Sundown 1500D amps with the havoc 12, and getting great results. So how is it that the 1500D is a 800w amp at 2ohms, but people are getting good results? I thought it was bad to under power a sub. Maybe I'm just missing something blatantly obvious, maybe not. The site said I have to post here first, so this is it. Do with it what you please.
