  1. i will be there a week from today, on friday and will stay for a week
  2. hes a great brother but trust me, im buying every bit of it lol
  3. yeah the more help the better!
  4. Thanks Josh for the input, I'm going to do a downfire setup, reason is I need the space, and read a couple posts about people getting better results in my vehicle (jeep wrangler) with downfiring vs sub up port back ok, sounds good!
  5. I wouldnt waste my time with a "semi" wall, walls really lose effectiveness when they arent completely walled off, for most SUV types, subs up port low and back is best, hope that helps
  6. theres always someone who will benefit from a build log no matter the size or cost! go fit it!
  7. not to mention the geometry of the box would hurt airflow within it, start from the sub and ask yourself where would the air compress, basically back into that far left corner, then to exit the port it would have to pass by the sub which is continually compressing/decompressing the surrounding air (this is a very watered down version of what really happens) but you get the idea
  8. i would go with sub forward port up, you may have issues with the loading off the back wall, depends on how much space would be between the sub and back wall, i'd say you would be safe if its greater than 6" with sufficient room for airflow from behind the seats to the front (or under)
  9. i would steer clear of PRs, spend your money on a decent pre-fab box for that truck or make your own ported one
  10. Not holding back on this build thats for sure
  11. keep in mind the basic trig equation, length of an arc (s) = radius of curvature ® * degree through which arc curves (in radians NOT degrees) so for a 3" radius curve, for 90 degree bend (but convert to radians by multiplying by pi/180), arc length (s) = 3" * [ 90 * (pi/180) ] s = 3" * 1.5707 = 4.7115" So basically just add that length in your calculations to find the total length of the piece you need to cut then kerf away!
  12. i've had 2 Memphis 4kws before and loved them, a little on the pricey side but def. worth the extra coin, i swapped from two of those to 2 goliaths and regret it. The memphis dont get as hot, cleaner signal, and overall better amp. they def. do the power they say they do
  13. yeah the more the merrier! this box is gunna be wicked, big thanks to JBLCAMRY! I like the idea of an alpine headunit, thats about all I used to use, they are sturdy units.
  14. no unfortunately ill be on the road on the way to phoenix
  15. yep Shreveport Oct15-17th
  16. I'll be in town the June 27th-July 3rd I'm not sure I've been out of the loop lately but that would be awesome! It will be built by July 4th!
  17. yep, doesnt surprise me! and im looking forward to being a nice addition! Im not sure, I'd prefer a double din, but it depends on the prices etc. 3 10s in a mustang should be nice!
  18. that, and 5000 watts is never really easy to play with, but the get real hot IME
  19. goliaths are beasts, but tempermental, gotta baby em a little. Kind of volatile if that make sense. If you can "tame the beast" they are nuts. I ran my .5ohm daily no probs and burped .25ohm a couple time lol
  20. So my name is Josh LaFountain, and I drive 100% stock. Crazy I know, but after spending 4 years burping competition SPL setups in a Ranger, I had to take a leave from the hobby for college (it isn't cheap) but now I'm back. I drive a 100% stock 2007 Chevy Silverado V8 4dr. and in a few weeks I'll be driving from Baton Rouge, LA to Phoenix (1496 miles!) where me and my brother Mark with do a complete audio overhaul. The idea is to build a ground pounder from scratch, going big the first time (#1 piece of advice I can offer to people starting the hobby). This will not be for burping one tone, or for pure spl competition. It's for everyday ground pounding, and maybe I'll compete in some street beat or something. I've got 2 18" XCON D1's on order, and when I get to Phoenix, we'll get a head unit, amp, battery, wire, everything. We'll build the box (and this time it should look good since all my old boxes were for burping) and install everything while I'm in town. Out with the backseat, lame ass stock stereo, and in with a monster! So onto the ugly (I mean stock) pics... So the install will happen in about 2 1/2 weeks. In the meantime, since I've been out of the loop for almost 3 years, I would like to get everyone's opinion on head-units, mids, amps, batteries, etc. I have a pretty good idea, but this market changes so fast that everything I used a few years ago could be obsolete. Stay in tune, updates will be posted regularly and the entire install will be shown! And heres a few teaser pics of my old setup...R.I.P.
  21. exactly, thats what i had in mind, made it to where i could lean back as much as i wanted, even with external aeroports, they are really easy to use, just takes a little learning curve on how to know what length and how many to use
  22. yeah i hear ya, im 6'3" and i made all my boxes (except a few) for daily driving and it can be done, just takes a lot of measuring, one option is to slant the front so you can lean your seat back but not waste the airspace, and yes port facing straight across toward driver window (not foward)
