  1. what is sound if it's not the movement of air ? x73
  2. I pretty much exclusively drink beer and occasionally a Tom Collins. Hard alcohol is too hard on my stomach.
  3. I think Scott said he wouldn't be doing that anymore because he's had too much trouble in the past with shipping companies when doing that.
  4. DevilDriver replied to helotaxi's topic in General Audio
There are some pictures on cardomain. I'm waiting to see the Ascendant Audio H2.
  5. No matter what variation he tries to put on it, it's still a 4th order bandpass acoustical filter. When it comes down to it, you really just have different filters: 2nd Order - sealed and IB 4th Order - bass-reflex and the sealed rear chamber bandpass 6th Order - Front and rear ported bandpass 8th Order - Three chamber ported bandpass (typically one or two of the chambers firing into the third chamber) Everything else that isn't a horn or TL is just a variation of those 4, but the characteristics are extremely similar no matter what that variation is.
  6. I think Kyle went travelling and thus his site may not be totally up to date. Exodus Audio is a brand run by Kevin Haskins and you can see their products and info here: www.diycable.com
  7. The HO will work just fine. The Shiva-X and Tempest-X are actually quite different than the original; for starters, they utilize XBL^2 where the old ones did not.
  8. I couldn't tell you to be honest, but I can say that when you get to that level of competition, people tend to keep things very quiet. They don't want others to know their secrets, you see.
  9. In my opinion, one of the absolute best budget subs (in terms of output and linearity) would be the Shiva-X or Tempest-X from Exodus Audio. They are both about $20-$30 higher than your budget, though. This is also a really good option. Keep in mind that truly flat extension to 20 Hz won't be easy unless you go ported (larger enclosure) or sealed with a lot of stroke.
  10. Oh, we should really patent that! The only clarification I would make about that score is that it is the highest recorded score in competition, but it is not a "World Record". World Records in DB Drag can only be set at 3x events and this particular score was done at a 2x.
  11. PIIHB? Funny, the only posts I make at 306 are the ones you tell me to make.
  12. LOL! I have a bit of a young face so people regularly guess that I'm about 23 or 24, but I get compliments on maturity on the regular. There is a girl here who told one person her age but had her give a vow of secrecy, at which time I said "So you're 5 then?"
  13. Can someone tell me why the hell someone would be ashamed of telling you their age? Do they think that we don't all get older? Doesn't make any sense to me.
  14. You must be a member for about 8 years here before you can give valid advice. In other words, we're all clueless.
  15. If you want very cheap, I'd say Aura NS3 or Hi-Vi B3S. Both smaller drivers but under $20 each with pretty good response over a wide bandwidth, and the TQWT BIB gives the stronger bottom end that is the weakness of both drivers. Works pretty well on music, just don't expect floor shaking impact.
  16. I knew there was one I was forgetting. You post relatively frequently there, yes? I haven't stopped by in a few weeks. Yeah but then again lossless audio on a portable device is really just a waste of batteries if you ask me... It's actually more of a convenience factor for me. It is irritating as hell to have a large library of quality FLAC material and have to re-encode this every time I want to put one of those albums on my media player.
  17. The strength of HTS and AVS is far and away their DIY sections. A lot of the other forums on each site are kind of take it or leave it.
  18. Well I guess that's the best way to say "Thanks a lot, kindly go F yourself." As long as you're not too bothered by it. Your posts read like you're really pissed but you don't want to care.
  19. I can't find one that I can really get into, although HomeTheaterShack can be pretty good somedays. I just have to spread my time out amongst DIYaudio, HTS, AVS, AudioCircles, and AudioKarma.
  20. I like a program called Exact Audio Copy...it rips it to .WAV first and then converts it to FLAC. There are others, though. People torrent FLAC albums just as they do MP3 ones, as well... WavPack works well too, encodes a lot faster than FLAC too... WavPack is very good except that it is has very little hardware support and is less traded on the interwebz than, say, FLAC or APE.
  21. Well, you know for sure you'll have to pay 6% GST and possibly the PST depending on the PST regulations in your province. You'll have to pay a brokerage fee as well: Canada post is $5 or $8, while FedEx and UPS are both around $25 if I remember correctly.
  22. Are the graphs you're looking at (both on the BIB site and on zaphaudio) take any form of room gain into account at all? Something worth considering, and with a full range driver (as Jim mentioned) in a TQWT, you are going to have some rippling at low frequencies. Room placement can go a long way to smoothing these frequency response anomalies out. Yes, read QW.com or check out the "Terry Cain's BIB; why does it work?" thread on diyaudio.com. It is a LOT of reading but it is worth the time.
  23. It sounds as if it is just burned as data on the disc, in which case there is no EAC required; it's virtually just a copy and paste dealie from the disc to your target folder. Sweet. One more question you probably know the answer to...I got a bunch of stuff in a CD image format...so there's one huge FLAC file and .cue sheets. How do I go about breaking it up into individual tracks, do I have to burn it to CD using the .cue and rip it like that? I have never encountered that personally but it should work just fine. It depends on how the CD image was burned, of course, but that should work fine.
