Welcome to the IHoP
Being the only human for miles is appealing no matter where you are geographically situated.

Welcome to the IHoP
Southern Saskatchewan is the pits, though. Northern Saskatchewan is quite beautiful, however. I've never done much travelling in Manitoba aside from what's along the Trans-Canada. But going west....well, no travel I have ever done holds a candle to the Rocky's.

Welcome to the IHoP
On a semi-filesharing note, I got my Zune today that Lukas sent up for me. 30GB for $100 is a steal of a deal for this piece of equipment. Sure wish it supported lossless, though.

Mark, The reason I don't use Pirate Bay is that a lot of DMCA notices come from there. PB also has limited selection (compared to what I'm looking for) particularly when it comes to lossless audio. Now, we could upload our stuff to PB and just direct members here to the torrent files, but I personally don't care to use a lot of my bandwidth on uploading to people who aren't in SSA if I don't have to.

Welcome to the IHoP
I will post a how-to if I get time tonight. And for those interested, don't download mIRC. Google SysReset. That is assuming you wish to share your files as well. SysReset uses mIRC but comes with additional configuration options that will allow you to share your files with others. vladd: Consider adding a password?

Welcome to the IHoP
I don't have time at work right now to go through the setup, but it's pretty easy. If no one has done it by the time I have time tonight, I will go ahead and get it setup.

Welcome to the IHoP
I would say let's set one up on efnet. #SSA.

Welcome to the IHoP
Pretty much nothing at all. We just need to teach people how to allow themselves to share amongst one another.
-
Welcome to the IHoP
That's fine with me. You pick a channel and a network. We should work on putting together a how to for something like SysReset as well, so people can easily set up there fserves.

Welcome to the IHoP
IRC is where you can find a ton of scene releases, primarily encoded as v2 mp3's. It is possible to come across transcodes, but if you're downloading from a bot in one of the channels, it's almost definitely encoded as a v2. IRC Advantages - Typically stellar speeds - Sharing not specifically required in most channels - Great collection of pre-release leaks Disadvantages - Selection: If it's been released in the last month, it should be very easy to find. If it's older than that, you'll probably have a hard time getting to it. - FLAC: Pretty much non-existent, unfortunately. - Hard to find: Take 1,000,000 users and spread them out over 100 networks with 1,000 different channels on each network and virtually no searchable database in which to find them. Quite often you have to know where to find a particular style of music in advance; this can sometimes be found via google (or sites like packetnews.com) or just by finding out from people in the various IRC channels Filemp3 Advantages - Torrent system means it's an easily searched database and relatively good speeds - A fair number of torrents Disadvantages - Selection: Not near the selection of OiNK, in terms of quantity or quality - FLAC: None that I have ever seen. - Ratio requirements Usenet Advantages - Fast speeds - Very good selection of recent releases - Relatively easy to look through if you have a usenet browser or search program - No sharing required at all Disadvantages - Retention rates: Usenet only retains files for a given period of time...usually 30-60 days and sometimes considerably less - Selection: Retention rate is a sort of buffer...older releases get pushed out. - Costs money: Usually a good usenet browser requires a subscription of something on the order of $10/month - FLAC: I didn't see any when I used it a long time ago...hopefully there's some there now. Yeah, we should probably get on that. I've got a lot on my plate so someone else should lead on it but I'd be happy to contribute music.

Welcome to the IHoP
I, personally, think OiNK won't be coming back. In the mean time, I'll be going back to IRC, Demonoid, and Filemp3.

Welcome to the IHoP
Still, Scott, you did really really well in a short period of time.

Welcome to the IHoP
I had some decent space to use too... 1.5 share ratio. My ratio was fine (never below 1.3) but my buffer was quite large...I could have downloaded another 230GB without uploading anything before I would have been banned.
-
Welcome to the IHoP
I just wish I had seen this coming earlier so I could have whored the hell out of the torrents there. I had a lot of buffer I could have used up.

Welcome to the IHoP
Mid forties last night and I had mine open. Feels goooooooood I'm also one for the cold.

Welcome to the IHoP
OiNK is toast forever. The admin got arrested, server got pulled, the whole nine yards.

Welcome to the IHoP
So sad without OiNK today....

An Unbiased Comparison of Linear BL Technologies
I am not near as clever as many out there and I have many years of education to go before I am prepared to fully engineer products from beginning to end. There is a possibility, however, that I will be working with a very well known transducer designer on some home audio prototypes (I personally think the car audio market is a really, really tough place to make a buck with any longevity).

An Unbiased Comparison of Linear BL Technologies
And Kyle, thanks for posting. You clearly have the upper hand when it comes to the LMS approach and as you and I have discussed, the LMS-5400 has more than proven it's value in objective testing. I have many reasons to update this and I appreciate your insight. There are just a few things in your post I want to point out. I worry that this thread doesn't state this enough. Just like everything in the audio realm, it is a manner of implementation for a given design goal. It seems to me that this is taken advantage of quite frequently by Dan and I think it might actually be a downside. It seems to me that this might be a poor location to put some copper in terms of inductance variation, no? The ridging is a definite issue in the XBL^2 design that requires due diligence be paid to the motor geometry, specifically the coil length, top plate height, as well as the height and depth of the rebate. Very good insight on the 8200 also and it would be a shame if this was one of the straws that broke the camel's back regarding your relationship with Fujitsu-Ten.

IA QuickBox Elite v1.0
Good, simple, straight-forward GUI. Perhaps you can add an option for flared ports? You could also allow a user to enter their own flare radius, throat length, etc., or you could use the standard Precision Ports geometry. This is what I was working on for a little while but I've been busy with other stuff.

Removable baffle gasket material
I'm not totally sure that tape gasket would work well over several attachments and removals unless you replace it every couple of times. Don't know what material would work just as well, though.

Bittorrent users please help
Personally, I didn't find it that great. But, it is the best of the music video torrent sites. Sorry, I don't have any invites...my account was disabled for inactivity.

Full Range Home Audio Project
Looks really good. It sucks to see someone out-progress me in less than a week...by a lot.
