  1. Wal-Mart... haha, i dont know of any place around here. where in IN are you?? i am thinking dr. dashboard in Terre Haute sells pioneer HU's (60/40 chance i am right about that) but i dont remember speakers..
  2. i got a local guy that has a 2.5 cube box tuned to 32Hz and he will sell it to me for the same price as building my own. how would it sound in that box?? is it too big?
  3. i have it in about a 1.1ft^3 and i think it sounds like it needs to be in a bit smaller box. would the Ov.2 sound good in that big of a box? what about like 1.75 or 2ft^3 @ 32Hz? would that be a good LSQ setup? i dont know what 28Hz sounds like or what 32Hz sounds like or how loud it gets so its kinda hard for me to decide, i just know i want it to hit pretty hard, hit every double bass kick drum note, and go low. i found those enclosures on caraudio.com, not icix. here is some others tuned to 32Hz... 2ft^3 @ 32Hz another 2ft^3 @ 32Hz 1.75ft^3 @ 32Hz the second 2 cube box works a little bit better for my car, but is either of the 2 cube boxes going to be better than the other? by the way, are these good enclosure designs?
  4. sooooo i might be changing my mind...........it was raining today so i sat at home and started thinking. here's what i thought. "why should i build a sealed box and spend the money on that, when i plan to go ported someday anyways....??" soooo.......im thinking of going ported. my only worry is that i will mess it up and it not sound right, since ported boxes dont need a lot of messing up to majorly mess up and sound like poop. anyways, thinking of just taking my time, thoroughly figuring everything out, having the right tools, and making me a ported box. i am trying to keep the box as small as possible. i was looking through some enclosures and here is some choices but i have a few questions. first off, what is the difference, as far as sound, between a 1.5ft^3 @ 30Hz and a 2ft^3 @ 30Hz?? lastly, how big of a difference is there going to be between tuning at 28Hz and tuning to 30Hz?? here are some of the enclosures i found.... eD's found on ICIX #1 found on ICIX #2
  5. got the sub in last night, set my gains correctly for the first time, put in some new dash speakers and got it goin. first impressions are pretty good. sub gets a LOT lower than my previous subs, also gets quite a bit louder but also this is in the same box as my 10", just cut the hole bigger, so i wasnt expecting a lot. it hits all of the notes and hits them quite well. i would like it a bit louder and a little lower, but that will help a little bit when i build my sealed box, and it will help a lot when i build a ported box...
  6. well, i got the sub in today. it is in perfect condition and the shipping was very fast! now im off to find a box in my garage so i can get this thing goin.
  7. ok, i think i figured it out. to get the 200 watts in 2 ch. i think i bridge the amp and then do a Y. what would my final impedance load be if i ran it this way? if i ran it in series my load would be 4 ohms, correct?
  8. of course. also have another question as far as wiring it goes. its the dual 2 ohm version, and i have a 400 watt amp. it can either put out 200 wrms x 2 @ 2 ohms or 400 wrms x 1 @ 4 ohms. should i bridge the amp and run the sub in series or should i run one channel to each coil...? what would my final impedance be for each configuration?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Run 1 coil per channel and use a Y adaptor so each coil is getting the same signal <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Y adapter? EDIT: haha, i know what one is, dont want to look completely dumb.....but explain a little more, is there one on parts express? how would i hook it up?
  9. of course. also have another question as far as wiring it goes. its the dual 2 ohm version, and i have a 400 watt amp. it can either put out 200 wrms x 2 @ 2 ohms or 400 wrms x 1 @ 4 ohms. should i bridge the amp and run the sub in series or should i run one channel to each coil...? what would my final impedance be for each configuration??
  10. yea, that box that is 15 x 15 x 12 is using the "1.25" rule
  11. alrighty. i didnt use any polyfill in my last box and i noticed nothing different, but just checking.
  12. so did anyone have any advice as far as lining the inside walls of the box with peal and seal? also, how much polyfill should i put in there?
  13. so i figured up, a 15 h x 15 w x 12 d, is 1.107ft^3 which will be just a bit bigger than 1ft^3 after displacement. will that work better??
  14. so the snailshell is your opinion....?? im not like dead set on this box, im definitely open to suggestions. i do want to go ported sometime, but im not the best at building boxes so i dont want to mess up a ported box. also i dont have a box for this sub right now, so i want something that i can build quick. right now all i have is a crappy pre-fab for 2 10's that i was gonna cut the hole bigger to fit the 12. i want to hear this sub as soon as i get it, im a little anxious.
  15. yea, i really wanted that crystal. i was so pissed when i saw that he put it on ebay. i kept tried to talk him down a bit in price and i guess he thought i wasn't gonna buy it. oh well. im sure i'll be happy with the Ov.2 because either way it will be a near new sub for $118 and it will be better than my MTX 10. even if the customer service at eD isn't very good, i still have that warranty and im sure i can get it fixed or replaced if it breaks, but it is in good condition. maybe diamond will be my next buy.
  16. im a little confused, you guys are a little smarter than me. would a cube be ok or not? i read somewhere that a cube was actually better. who knows. im sure it will be fine. i also read that it helps if you put dynomat on the interior walls of the enclosure.........is that a good idea?? i would just use peal n seal. what about polyfill? here is a little sketch i drew up. all dimensions are external, and with the 3/4" wood, it has an interal volume of 1.13ft^3 and with displacement of the sub it will be about 1ft^3. how does it look? any other tips i need??
  17. well, after a long and horrid search for a sub, i finally purchased a near new eD 13Ov.2 (bought in Jan. '06). now, its time to design an enclosure. i know eD has 1 ft^3 for the recommended but i was just curious if there was anything better, as it shows 1 ft^3 for the Ov.2 and Kv.2. obviously, looking for sealed right now, not going ported YET. i want it to hit hard, hit all those double bass kick drums hard, want to get as low as possible, and decently loud. oh yea, going to be putting 400 watts @ 4 ohms to it. no plans for amp expansion right now. im looking for a cube, not a rectangle as well. i figured up on rockfordfosgate.com and a 13.75x13.75x13.75 cube (external) is right about 1ft^3 including displacement. should i go a little bit bigger than 1ft^3 or a little smaller? hope i explained everything well.
  18. alright. well i made my decision and purchased. i bought a 13Kv.2 and no less than 5 min later a 13Ov.2 came up for sale so i bought that and i am going to cancel the Kv.2. got the Ov.2 for $118 shipped! it was bought in janurary of 2006 brand new and is in perfect condition. didn't figure i could pass up that deal. NOW FINALLY, i can AGAIN, begin to plan out an enclosure.
  19. ok, added a poll, i plan to pick what sub to get, right now, i am tired of being confused. i have decided on these two. want good SQ but want to be decently loud as well. i want to hit every single double bass kick drum note, want to hit those bumpin rap songs LOW. what about the warranties on each sub? customer service? put all of these things together and help me pick the best for my money. thanks
  20. i just dont like buying an old driver especially when i have no money to spare. i would love to buy a 12o and i may still get one, but i just dont have the money to have to completely replace the sub, or get a recone, which will cost a lot, and even then, i can't get a flat recone.
  21. that was my next choice, but i am still a little questionable over it because it is an older driver, and not knowing the wear and tear on it. i am just afraid that i will get it and get a few months use out of it and then it breaking or something. is that something i need to worry about?
  22. that's what i have to say that guy put the crystal comp up on ebay and it sold within like 5 hours. didnt even have time to get to it so.......the only way i am getting it is if the dude that bought it backs out...... so............looks like i am again on the search for a sub. now, its back to either an assassin 12, a 13kv.2, the flatcone, or any other subs that are good used ones for sale that i happen to find EDIT: found an Orion P12D2 12" on sale on ebay. $90 + shipping, how are these? also found a diamond D3 12" for $77 + shipping.
  23. i think i have decided on getting that crystal comp. done a lot of research on it and it seems like a great SQ/LSQ driver and it can handle a lot more power which leaves room for expansion later on. sub is in absolutely perfect condition and its a hell of a deal. i will be back later on and find out some enclosure specs for this sub.
  24. loooks like a good deal. i am so confused now on what i want to get. i have so many ideas being thrown around. how are they going to compare to the assassin, the flat cone, or the 13kv.2? what about their sound quality?? does crystal have a web site? what about the specs? EDIT: white-crystal comp 12 / green-13kv.2 / blue-assassin entered some wrong figures the first time, the SPL graph is not right, the crystal is pretty much right along with the 13kv.2 on the SPL graph.....looks like the SQ on the crystal is pretty good. that is just in a 1ft^3 box, dont know any enclosure recommendations. how much can i rely on WinISD??
  25. can't be having that around here. i really like the look of that flatcone but it is SVC 4 ohm and i am not sure what differences the flatcone makes....
