Rate the 18"s
BTL or Mayhem. In my vehicle, BTL was slightly louder on the meter (less than 1 dB), but peaked at a higher fequency vs. the Mayhem. This made the Mayhem sound louder playing music.

Fi X Series
58" plasma. Really nice with Blu-Ray.

Popping noice from my BTL 15
What are the box parameters? Subsonic filter? Setting? How far does it look like the sub is moving? Popping could be the coil hitting the backplate. . .

Fi X Series
No cabinet yet, but here they are:

Best amp for Fi BTL 18" fully loaded??
There is a guy on here somewhere selling his IA 40.1's. . .Would be a nice match to a BTL

Recones
Do you want to send it in, or do you want a kit? Let me know and I will PM the info to you.

wtf just happened
Use a 1.5 volt battery (AA, C, D, etc) and test each coil. Just add a couple of pieces of wire to the terminals, hold the negative to the battery, and pop the positive a few times and see if anything happens. That is a quick test to make sure the coils are not open (like a broken lead). Brian

New Project
- where do you buy?
These are really nice if you need them now: Tang Band W8-740P 8" Subwoofer - item number: 264-854 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-854#- New Project
So I will start a build log, but it may be a few months before it is up and going. I will be installing speakers as install panels, rear deck, etc. Sound deading soon! 1963 Nova SS 327 small block Turbo350 automatic It is really close to being ready to drive. . . Plan is to get the (12) 7" AA mids and (8) Morel tweeters I have in the rear deck, front doors, and front kick panels. Maybe a pair of Havoc 12's or (4) 10" Chaos in the trunk. As soon as I sell another IA 40.1, I am going to buy a pair of SX1250's to match my pair of SX900.4's. I can also use them with my SX remote. Brought it home like this. Have all the glass, 3 hoods, pretty much complete new interior - new window felt, beautiful new seats, carpet, headliner, door panels, etc.- I want to play a game....
Do you need my shipping address????- my btl broke
I assumed 15", but that is a good point.- my btl broke
That looks good. (2) 1500's can make some good power if you are keeping the voltage up. Better watch the excursion after you get it fixed. Might want to take the subsonic up higher to start and then back it down as you know everything is alright.- my btl broke
Who built the box? Sure it is tuned where you think it is? That is a lot if power. If everything is setup correctly, a BTL will be fine. If not, it will rip apart as it did. Post up the full set of box dimensions if you want me to check it out.- my btl broke
MAN!!! You must be killing that thing mechanically. . .What are the box specs, how much power, and are you using a subsonic filter? I absolutely punished my BTL's beyond what any sub should ever have to take and they looked brand new when I sold them. That may need a recone, but you could try Loctite 20 minute 2-part epoxy or rubberized CA glue. Brian- Dave69's 1 Fi BTL 12" Build Log
I am going to guess you would get more out of the box with less bends in the port and still more than enough port area. Do you have a router table? Last box I did with that many bends, I used PVC to round the U-turns like this: Smooth airflow through the ports is a good thing. . .- Dave69's 1 Fi BTL 12" Build Log
I am curious, why so much port area for (1) 12"? I would make that port smaller and do a single bend port that runs along the back wall. You could do 12.75 x 4.75 and have only one bend while still having 60 sqin of port area. More than enough for a single 12". I assume this is a daily box and not a fart box, since it is tuned to 32 Hz.- 2 15" btl enclosure
That will work. . .Fairly large box, so don't forget to add a few braces inside.- FI BL 18'' recone
The only additional cost is the return shipping. You will have to pay the difference between shipping a kit and having the reconed driver shipped back to you. PM me your zip code and I can get the total pricing for you and get it setup to send in. Brian- Voltage drops after power leaves the amplifier
The loads are 2 ohms and 6 ohms in the diagram you posted, that is why the voltage drop is not even. If the resistors were the same size, it would be a 12 volt source with 6 volts dropping across the first resistor and 6 volts dropping across the second one.- Any AA questions.
PM me your zip code and email address.- 4 15 box help... will it work?
Yes it will. . .- I want to play a game....
- My BTL install issue
All I can say is there must be something weird going on with that amp between the two modes. Ohms law is a physical law that cannot be broken. . .I understand the voltage/current is changing with the amp in the two modes, but the voltage and current across the subwoofers voice coils is staying the same in the two different modes. For the same power, it does not change. . .If it does, you are providing more power to the coils. You say it yourself - Subwoofers are dumb, they do what you tell them. When you wire 2 coils in series, each coil sees the full current from the amp, and 1/2 the voltage. In parallel, each coil sees the full voltage from the amp, and half the current. So when the amp changes from 2X voltage to 2X current, it does not matter to the sub. . .Physical law that works in real life just as it does in theory. Cannot be broken. I think in the case of the JBL, there is more going on than just a change from high voltage to high current. You know I like to debate with you Nick - Hope you are not getting upset with me - where do you buy?
