horns for mid/tweet
If someone is using more drivers to compensate for the shortcomings of their horn install, then it totally defeats the purpose of the horn. A well built horn will be all that's needed with an appropriate accompanying mid of course. With that being said, they are extremely difficult to design and implement in the automotive environment. Unfortunately, due to this nature, not much advice can be given. It's simply going to be trial and error. The basic mounting points and options are a given. The rest of the install will focus on acoustic treatments. This is something that will only yield results via testing. There is a reason horns never caught on in-car. They are simply not a feasible option. They are expensive. This is one area where a cheap driver cannot be implemented to sound as good or better. There's just no way around it. The install is uber-complex and takes hours upon hours of designing and testing. Resonance and reflection are different animals when horns are involved. It's just myriad problems in comparison to "traditional" drivers. Wanting a "system that is more clear with better transient response and far louder than the next 10 guys," is a totally subjective goal, so there is no objective way to approach this. To further that, starting off with something you don't even understand and have no experience with will only further complicate things and more than likely take you further from your goal than if you were to stick to a simpler method.

Welcome to the IHoP v.2
We can and do custom build anything you want or need, but if you're looking for something like you buy from a box store, then no, aside from tips and hoses and all that junk. We actually have machines in use all over the world. You ever watch the Tour de France? Of course YOU have. Well, we build the machines they use to clean the course. It's pretty wicked. We also have another division where we build recycling systems and phosphate recycling systems too. http://www.cprsystemsonline.com/index.html Most of the large trailer manufacturers use our systems, as well as many in the automotive industry. Chances are several of your car parts have been cleaned with our systems.

I'm designing my own line of subs and amps.

damping factor
Sorry, I should have put "control."
-
damping factor
Conduct a test for yourself and others at your shop. Set up two amps of equal power with different damping factors and see who can guess which one provides better cone control. Next time that rep comes in ask him what he thinks about cone control on smaller drivers. Why do you never hear it mentioned for smaller drivers where diaphragm control needs to be even more precise. Let us know what he says.

o scope gain setting
The power output changes with every frequency. The tune of the enclosure does not affect the amplifier at all. Well, back EMF, but we won't even begin to get into that. You also speak of being near thermal limits, which is good thought, but don't forget mechanical. Either one of these, or both, could spell doom. I like that you're thinking here, but to what end does this stop? You can scope every wire, every frequency, at every power level, and every magnitude, etc, and you're going to get a different result every time. Also, the scope may show interference, or some other abnormalities, but if it's inaudible or causing no harm, what do you do then? Your ears say everything if fine, but you saw something on a screen. What does it truly mean? I realize it's difficult to digest that everything you've been taught by "industry professionals" and all the marketing behind this stuff may be false, but just think . . . . How did we ever set anything up before all these "tools" and information were available en masse?
