  1. PM'd. Our parties are more like 50-100 people... small school, but still need some loud speakers in the room. Now that I'm finding cheaper PA gear, I'd say $600 tops for a PA system. The sub can come in later.
  2. Ordered the 6.5" IA Coax pair for my brother for Xmas! Great deals, guys!
  3. http://powerwerks.com/page/PW100-SYSTEM--19.aspx Anyone heard of Powerwerks? It's the brand my friend deals out of his shop, and I'd love to support the local small business. It's half the wattage of the Carvin, but also half the price. He quoted me $300 shipped, and said if the bass wasn't everything I wanted, which it most likely won't be, i would just need a quarter inch cable to plug into the mixer.
  4. http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/XP800L-PM12 I'll be talking to him about this system. Obviously, I would have to add a sub.
  5. Our parties definitely don't have 300 people, but you're definitely making me reconsider. Just had to jump on them while they were cheaper, just in case. I'm talking to a friend of mine later today, he's a guitarist with a music shop, so I'll see what he has in store. Gracias, M5
  6. M5, are you saying the PA system will be that much better for what I'm looking for? I'm thinking the towers will be more realistic after college. Met someone at the store when I bought them who owns them and said they'd be real loud for a dorm room, whatever "real loud" means. Just looking for other applications for what I'm buying other than just partying, since I don't see a PA system having any other practical uses for me. Thoughts?
  7. If y'all aren't already out for Black Friday shopping, what would you think of this. I feel like these towers are more practical. Would they still get loud enough paired with the linked receiver? I'm trying to take advantage of the deals tonight. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+Icon+Dual+8%22+2-Way+Floor+Speaker+%28Each%29/2138273.p?id=1218310758886&skuId=2138273&st=Thanksgiving_Day_Sale_2012_Home_Theater_70411&cp=1&lp=1#tab=overview http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+735W+7.1-Ch.+3D+Pass-Through+A/V+Home+Theater+Receiver/2023351.p?id=1218305997984&skuId=2023351&st=2023351&cp=1&lp=1#tab=specifications
  8. Thanks for the advice on the path. Now that I know where to start and have decided on what route to take. I think I'm ready to plan/shop. Honda, you can send it to me. Can't be completely irrelevant.
  9. PA speakers sound like the route I'm going to go, unless this HT system could potentially give me the volume I'm after for cheaper. I like building enclosures, so the sub stage might be a summer project. I remember reading something about HT setups with sealed sub boxes, and all I know is ported. What would be preferable for me? I do have a friend who is a DJ and I do have a couch.
  10. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_36820_Behringer-B212D.html Am I on the right track as far as PA speakers? I assume it is necessary to build my own enclosure for the subto get those real low notes.
  11. We've already got surround sound for the movies. This is specifically for loud dubstep and rap. Since I'm on break, I can't say exactly how much space there it, but I'll approximate. A twin XL mattress is 74" long, and since I have my dresser under the bed already, I'd only have about 37" in length to use under the bed. It's 53" wide, so depth would probably be around 45", since I have my golf clubs back there. I'd estimate about 36" in height. Sean's finding out if he is relevant or not.. LOL Much love, buddy. Stefan, are you saying I should definitely do a pair of full-range PA speakers, and have a separate subwoofer enclosure? If they can get lower than the stuff I'm used to from door speakers, is there any reason to have a sub?
  12. I know better. I should have posted the budget. I'd like to keep it right around $1k. A little over or under won't hurt me, but it will last me all four years (hopefully), and be able to be used in my own place eventually. It is college, so damage is something to consider. I ain't exactly rich, either LOL so save money where possible, but no skimping... I'd like the size to be fairly compact, it is a dorm room after all. Maybe the size of a pair of night stands or two PA speakers. I'm comfortable with it being tall enough to put a board on the enclosure for beer pong, if it must be one enclosure, but I'd prefer separate enclosures, so I can tuck them into corners or put them under the bed/desks. There's three available outlets around the room, but I'm sure the wiring hasn't been upgraded since the building was built in 1880 or whenever. If it means anything, we have the TV, xBox, Refrigerator, two fans, apple tv, N64, a phone and laptop charger, and two desk lights all on one outlet with no issues. I was looking at speakers and amps from parts-express. If it'd be easier and similar to go PA, I have a friend in the business, so pricing would be nicer, but I'm concerned with PA's low frequency performance... since that's my favorite part. LOL I don't think Sean's help is irrelevant. Loud is definitely what I'm seeking. Conversation and tea is not to be had while partying. Space and budget are the limiting factors, though.
  13. I'm a student at a university with 100% on-campus residence, and this means we always party in dorms. I've done a few installs in cars, but have decided to work indoors this winter. My roommates and I typically host on weekends, and so far, the roomy's Harmon/Kardon computer speakers + sub have done a decent job, but I think it's time to step it up... and give the little things a break from max volume LOL. I'd like to know which way I should start looking: PA or home theater speakers. I originally thought two towers (two full-ranges and a tweeter in each) and a sub would do the job well, but I'm not the expert. I've seen places with a few bookshelf speakers and a couple places have a couple PA speakers, and I typically like those parties better since the music's a lot louder. The parties are ragers with not much conversing LOL, and it's typical to be heard across campus (of 2800 students). Don't worry about us disrupting the town, since we're isolated on a hill, it's pretty secluded and don't interrupt the town often. Feel free to suggest a direction. I can do research for brands and whatnot, but if you wanna throw in your two cents on equipment, do it. As far as the size of the room, think a little bigger than a small apartment's living areas (kitchen + dining room). Thanks in advance!
  14. Been awhile since I updated this. Got the HIDs in. They're beautiful. Retro-Solution 35W 5000k DS Ballast PS Ballast Color Comparison: The highs are the stock halogen bulbs. Compared with the fogs. This pic alone makes me consider getting HID fogs, or at least 5000k LED replacements. Lows Highs This picture was taken from somewhere around 25 yards from no more than 3 feet off the ground. I actually aimed them a little further down after taking that last picture. They're tons better than the stockers. Driving these unlit roads at high speeds is no longer a concern. I've also found that they help me see around turns with my tinted windows better.
  15. It's kind of like buying cars. No matter what car you buy, you'll always envy the Corvette, Viper, Camaro, etc. that you didn't buy, so you just have to go with what's most practical for your current situation. I love my Icon, so I'm gonna vote for it, but if it's not in your budget, I'm positive the Gcons will be just fine.
  16. Got the sub to work today. I undid the bolts that the speaker wires are wired to and the negative wire's strands just fell off, so I assume there wasn't enough of a connection for the signal. In any case, I'm so stoked and as soon as I get the amp relatively tuned, I'll take a good video and write a review on the beast. All I have right now is a garbage video from my Galaxy.
  17. Looks good to me for a first, ported box build. My first ported box didn't incorporate 45s for bracing, either. Should be pretty decent.
  18. Not the first system, just the first one I'm publishing. I'll look into that, thanks.
  19. With this being the first car I've purchased, I wanted to make the system a little nicer. Thanks!
  20. Still unsure if the adhesive is going to hold, but it seems pretty solid. The build's been completed, with the exception of painting the box and the HIDs, which will be saved for another time down the road. Pure sex. And this is how it looks through the read window. ..I know it's dirty. Although finished and relatively good looking, I ran into an issue with the wiring. This is the first DVC sub I've ever installed, not to say that's an excuse, since this diagram makes it appear pretty simple: I was running out of time before I had to leave for a concert, so I didn't bother troubleshooting that night. I'm going to look into the RCAs in back of the HU and if those are all good I'll pull the sub out and hope I can wire it right this time. LOL
  21. LOL I definitely will tighten those screws... I just took the sub out to repair it, and took the picture when the screw was half-way in, since that's where it was when the accident happened. I received quite a few compliments about the stain from kids on campus, thank you!
  22. If this adhesive doesn't work out, I'll look into that.
  23. I found this out by mistake when I installed two of their Konfused housings. It's different, and a bit more of a PITA, but I'd say it's worth it.
  24. I applied the adhesive and after about 30 minutes I pressed down on the cone and the bond didn't break, so I'm optimistic! It probably was due to the rushing... the anxiety was great. I was actually using a hand-powered screwdriver. LOL I always do in an attempt to avoid this very thing. Thanks for the pity and compassion, y'all. I'll be home this weekend before a concert to run the amp ground and screw the sub in. Should be dandy.
  25. Cool, walmart has that for cheap. Let's see what happens. Apply and hope for the best! I have to run the ground wire and plug everything into the amp, so if the shoe goo works, I'll be bumping by tomorrow. Thanks, Stefan. No problem. It shouldn't take much, I would apply a light layer, let it dry for 45min, then do again once or twice. Also for future reference I believe silicone shares a chemical with a lot of the foam surrounds, so when applied it can deteriorate the foam. Box looks nice by the way, I really like the mounting panel's finish. I definitely noticed that when I looked at all the adhesives WalMart had. I picked one up that was foam-safe, but it was labeled "Crafter Adhesive" or something, so we'll see how it holds.. Also, thank you. Looks good in the car. Next weekend I'll probably have some more free time to get some more done. Damn, I guess it's good only going to school 20 minutes from home.
