Played with my MAG today!!
Yah Josh... I need kicks and tweeter A-Pillar mounts fiberglassed. You up for it?

Morel MW144
I've heard a couple of Morel mids... all of them are nothing short of awesome.

HT cabinets, practice done
I found that Audax tweeter to be a bit too bright on axis as well. My experience was not with an Adire kit though, but with the tweeter in my car for a few weeks. Off-axis it's a different beast and sounds quite good IMHO. With Adire's advanced crossover networks I'm sure they probably tamed that tweeter as well as anyone could though, certainly a better implementation than I heard it in.

Bull****! I got a ticket today.
For real... they are all members of the communist party... or something.

12" Magnums for Burps?
2000-watts has been done on Mags for burps... but burnt coils from that kind of thing are not warranty items.

Interest in pre-ordering 8's?
For 6x RE 8s I would have done 3 ft^3 tuned to 25Hz... at most 4.5 ft^3 with the same tuning. High tune was probably your issue.

What if I could...
SIr...you need life too.... B) Shut it... I've had good reason to drive

What if I could...
I've driven about 40,000 miles on I-40 in the past 3 years... of course, mainly on one stretch *laughs*

please help my magnums sound really bad
Are they wired out of phase?

Interest in pre-ordering 8's?
I would definatly say it's your 5.25" speakers... a dedicated midbass driver would help you out alot. And no, it's not gonna be a power hog. PS: Keep in mind the driver is only being entertained right now, it's not guaranteed to come out. The interest level will dictate that. Also, the specs are only roughly what the final driver could be -- so we can't really answer *exact* questions on them as of yet.

Interest in pre-ordering 8's?
It will be fairly efficient, the low MMS is largely responsible here. Don't expect it to be spectacularly efficient though, not like a dedicated midrange or large-box HT speaker. Trade-offs have to be made to get the sort of low-end we desire out of it in small boxes. It will be a TON more efficient than the RE8 though (which is 80.4 dB / 0.067%) -- which, FYI, has an MMS higher than the 12" Magnum according to my ISD database. Power handling and efficiency aren't necessarily related... take a look at an Eminence Kilomax driver.

Interest in pre-ordering 8's?
They would make good midbass drivers OR subwoofer... the low inductance and low MMS are definatly beneficial to higher frequency response. In this case the only thing limiting the high frequency response is the cone that ends up being used. But to answer your question... I wouldn't call it primarily anything. It'll do subwoofer duty AND midbass duty with equal finesse. Power handling and price are still up in the air.

Moving assemly pics
Moving assembly = very cool... I got to play with it over the weekend. Amazing how light weight it is -- Nick is a huge fan of a low Mms B)

First no post day
Looking at a car that I'm going to buy next Sunday, which I will once again have to drive to ATL to pick up. Don't listen to Nick... he was down there picking up chicks. Thats all he ever does anyway, one after the other -- promises them the world then leaves them on the curb. I've seen it a million times before.

how much power are you feeding your magnum?
My former setup was 3x Magnum 12s with an MA Audio MA5082HX on the trio... my electrical system only supported about 1200-watts of power from that amp (figure about 33% efficiency for it at that low of an output compared to it's maximum output -- so I was drawing a ton of current). Still... louder than hell.

Comparisson of woofage
Hoss, I think the Mag recone kit weighs about the same as that dust cap you put on your Nuke, heh.

how much power are you feeding your magnum?
We had a guy accidentally hook up only one coil of his Magnum to a BP1200.1 and he didn't fry it... but please, don't try that at home.

A little about us at SI
Gotta disagree with you on this one. I want as much power as possible on my front stage, period. :denim: Heh... well hey, if you have the money, so be it... poor guys like me gotta watch it

A little about us at SI
Headroom...SIR.... Let us not forget about Damian...he feels he needs 350w on his midbass....I kept it to 250w... 8 more months till I get to venture to North Carolina...*crosses fingers* Now....if I just could convince Jake that staying up past 10pm is ACTUALLY something most college students do.. Headroom is way overrated in the car audio market lately... You just don't need 250-watts RMS on a midbass driver for anything unless it's 70 dB efficient Won't hurt anything, but you are burning money at that point. I like massive amps as much as anyone, but it's kinda wasteful.

jl 500/1 enough for 12" magnum d2??
No sir, the two amps are not going on a Magnum D2. And I will be utilizing them both at 2 ohms for 1,400 RMS each. No further details will be provided, sorry. The Brahma is a great sub, no doubt... but in the end I picked the Magnum over the Brahma. Actually, I had THREE Magnum 12s in my Firebird hatch for a while. The Magnum just had the SQ quality that I was looking for, anyone who uses one knows what I mean.

A little about us at SI
To continue along the original lines of this thread... I tried to explain crossovers and slopes and stuff to my girlfriend's Mom a few weeks ago. Once I get started there is no stopping me... she smiled and nodded like most people do though, so I felt good. Now if I can just convince Clarke that you don't need 8 million watts on your front stage to make it sound good...

jl 500/1 enough for 12" magnum d2??
Car Audio and Electronics bench tested the Visonik V2000T to do 1250-watts RMS @ 4 ohms... I have a pair of them awaiting my new woofer. Haven't had a chance to use them in high power yet, but the bench test speaks well for them. I'll update the forum once I get everything lined out... which could be a while. But you may still see some of these on ebay going pretty cheap. Also... the V800XD and V900XD from Visonik are great amps. I bought a V800XD about two years ago when I had a Brahma 15, then sold it to my friend (who could break an anvil with a sponge) and the amp is still going strong. I highly recommend these. Prices are good on ebay as well. FYI, Team Sick Bastard did a 169.9dB with 16 of the V900XD amps 2 years ago at an nSPL show I attended... from what I understand they didn't blow a single amp all season.

Oh yes, we are supreme nerds, it's true. Nick is not messing around... I just made a drawing on the computer the other day for some new basket stuff, kinda random, but that is what you do as a speaker nerd.
