  3. Much more sound deadening for NVH, full time AWD, the Lincoln has air suspension, and the 99+ Navis got DOHC heads. 5lbs of boost and you're over 500HP. Huh? With so little boost it gets so much stank? I wonder how it would look with a lift skid plate and 35" on it... Is it safe to push that engine with so much power with no internal work done? Tranny and rear end can handle it? The 4V heads move a LOT of air. Pressurize the cylinders a bit and dump a lot of fuel and you're good. All the components will easily handle that. The only thing I would worry about would be the rods, but tons of people run them at 600 or so with no issues. Just make sure your tune is safe and you'll be fine. I would disagree. Those rear ends suck balls. I've seen thousands of them with hundreds of thousands of miles and no issues. Thousands? Really? I rebuild a ton of them. Aside from the Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee I have not seen a more problematic differential in years.
  4. Love the soundtrack for for Road to Perdition. Just started the movie. I bought the OMPST years back. Time to break it out.

  6. Sounds like the balast is taking a shit.
  7. I LMAO No, only engineers can access movie data. This is done just in case someone tries to sue the manufacturer, as in the case of Toyota with their infamous "sticking throttles". As techs, we are only supplied a few frames of freeze frame data. But yes, we can also read calibration data and do know if the brain had been flashed. How about piggyback chips that are removed before bringing things in? Nope. They distort incoming and outgoing data, they don't actually manipulate the brain itself. However by removing them all freezeframe data and code info is also lost since the brain is completely powered down (called a battery disconnect) so it is apparent to us that someone has manipulated the system. Newer ECMs will retain information (dubbed mode $10) that can retain more info, but it is brand new and not widely available. I have heard about it and it has been touched on briefly in a class I went to recently, but it is so new and used so sparsely I am not really up to par with it yet. My understanding is it's depth and memory retention is quite vast, up to the past 50 drive cycles worth of retention. FWIW with Euros not really digging the ODBII standards I don't expect them to be in the forefront of these technologies (mode $0X standards are US EPA based standards). Expect them in higher end domestics first. You want analog in, digital out? Have you checked monprice? Monoprice FTW.

  9. I can loan it to you. However I will compile the compound interest at 10% weekly accruing. Your kidney and 1/3 of your liver shall be collateral. I could use some healthy liver.
  10. Started lifting again last night after a long hiatus. 5X5s to total failure. Did squats, bench, and 45 degree rows. My fucking thighs are sore as hell. Squats FTL.
  11. Might be a silly question, but is there an alt on the motor? Most 90's SBC's came with a 100A Bosch unit, dunno if they used those for marine applications though. Delcos, my man. Bosch will never find it's way onto a factory Chevy.
  12. I had RFI issues when I ran power wire too close to the ECM on my GN. That was interesting.
  13. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz makes me want to fucking puke.
  14. No way they will know who's shirt it is. Your Cintas rep didn't catch that? Our guy always goes through our unis and tossed our personal clothes aside for us. Bummer.
  15. Try telling my wife that
  16. Salesmen will say anything to sell a car . Again, I am not defending the service department, just sharing some of my personal observations as one of the guys on the other side of that line. I prefer honesty as well, but when it cost me $500, I started to question the value of my integrity.
  17. Ford uses a friction modifier and it basically makes the fluid look like liquid graphite. Makes it difficult to distinguigh clean from dirty fluid. The modifier is clear. That is the clutch material, and it is common in any positraction differential. The 4 runner is a 2 runner and it uses 2 peglegs with no clutches, hence no clutch material. As little as I think of Fords they tend to do rear ends right. Their Exploder independent suspension diffs blow goats, but fixed axles are solid. I have 3 bottles that are dark gray and look like liquid graphite. Odd. I always use the GM modifier, which is clear. All the modifiers I have ever seen are clear. And I do, and have done, all the diff builds in the shops I have worked in for the last 13 years or so (it seems to be a dying art), so it isn't like it is a rarity for me to be in an ass end. But I'll take your word for it. I have never used Ford's modifier so I can't speak from direct personal experiance.

  19. Yea it is a matter of honesty. Just a run down of a previous issue. My 4runner was in for a heater control issue, they fixed it great, BUT when they were backing it off the lift they cut one of the rear tires. They did replace it with a brand new tire, great. Problem was when I called them ofter I saw the new tire to ask them, I was told what happened and they replaced it and they figured I would have never noticed and that is why it was not on the sheet I received. That is one of those grey areas. I know what you mean about honesty, but sometimes it can bite us in the ass. I'll give you a real world example. As the shop foreman I recieve an hourly rate and a bonus schedule based on cars out and customer satisfaction surveys. I am bonused on these surveys at 93%, 97% and 100% positive, and the difference in bonuses is pretty significant. My service writer and manager are also bonused similarly. Survey calls are random and varied... from 20 to 50 calls a month, so each call is HUGE. One month we were running smooth with 100% CSS and we did a simple oil change on a car. 3 days later the lady came back and said her car sounded like a race car. So we pulled it in and it was loud as hell. Apparently the tech left the oil cap loose and it came off. It was loud, and had sprayed ~1/2 quart of oil around under the hood. We cleaned it up, put on a new oil cap, bought the lady some Bajangles breakfast, washed her car, and decided to be honest with her rather than bullshit her. Guess who dinged us on a survey? Guess who cost me $500 in bonus? We could have hidden the whole deal and said she had run over a plastic bag or something, but we chose to be honest. So I hate to say this, but when we deal with customers we tend wo weigh how we are going to deal with them. Generally if it is a drivability customer I will interview them, so the service writer and myself both get an idea of the type of person we are dealing with. First time customers will meet the service manager and service writer, and they will get an idea of who we are dealing with. But we develop an individual plan of how we deal with each customer based on our interactions. Some people will never be happy no matter how honest you are with them. Those are the people you leave in the dark as much as possible
  20. Gotcha. They should not say they rotated the tires (the tech will have been paid warranty rate for that too) if they hadn't.
  21. Not trying to defend the dealership here, but those checksheets are bullshit. In a lot of cases we just run down and check yes, or good, or done. We don't get paid enough to really spend the time to read and answer everything appropriately. I will check the tire condition and evaluate weather they need to be rotated or not based on wear patterns and tread depth. If the vehicle has disc brakes we don't need to remove wheels to check the brake system. I know. That is why I have put her off for so long. We were drinking last night and she just shoved it in my face. Shocked the hell out of me, really, knowing her boyfriend would only be gone a short while. Now that I got a taste though.... man I want some more. I need to stay away from this girl.
  22. Got a georgeous young (more than 10 years my junior) black girl workin on me. Put her ass/pussy in my face tonight. Naked, not in some clothes on and shit. She shocked the hell out of me. She waited until her boyfriend ran to the store for some smokes and grabbed me. This girl is fucking fine. I mean like, these chicks in these pics in ihop are dogs compared to her... She has been telling me for months she wants to fuck, but I figured she was just half bullshitting me. Bitch is fine... Damn wedding vows. What is a man to do? In my weakness I ate some of that brown sugar that was thrown in my face, but damn... I need to slow down here.
  23. Sounds like lots of fun! Sucks ass. Resume first. I fucking hate tooting my own horn. I'm a huge fan of one page resume's and mine is fucking 5. I need to seriously reduce it. FUCK! 5 pages holy shit! Most people don't want more than on page or so I have been told. Mine is simple: Best fucking diagnostic/electrical technician in town. Hire me. You are HIRED! See Sean... Simplicity rules
