12ssd copper - sealed enclosure
Well , finally got them in for recone. I had the pair ported on 1000w total and it was pretty good. I am going sealed now with 1000w on each woofer. (Zapco Studio 500 on each 4 ohm mono) So I see Nick really like the 1.1 sealed and other like the sealed in the 1 cu. Ft. range. My concern is for such a small box is that its not playing deep enough. I was leaning toward a slight larger, maybe 1.3 cu ft or so after displacement I would like to hear anything anyone has to say. Beat me up a little.

Wall socket'd my 12ssd thats going for recone
I am not quite sure. I don't have a clamp on meter but it you had one you couls use that reading ti figure out what the wattage is. I am guessing by looking at my house panel, assuming my logic is correct but I am not sure it is. I wired to 2 ohm just becuase I am too chicken to go 1/2 ohm and try it. But that is just the ohm at rest, I am not sure what ohm it was while playing I didn't check

Wall socket'd my 12ssd thats going for recone
For those that don't make it SMD Here it is. It's a D1 model, in series for the video. They are going in for a recone to change the ohms of the coil. I told my wife we were doing it, i guess she didn't know what to expect. You will hear I got busted. The lights in the house were dimming pretty bad. you can see it in the video. The dust cap was warm and the felt pads had burn marks from the tinsel leads. It sticks really bad but it still works. http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c112/bag...nt=100_4240.flv after The woofer still stinks. It moves freely, but i hooked it up again to get a reading at my house panel. We have digital meters in our area now. my normal Kwh is between .5 Kwh and 1.2 Kwh When that sub is going it's 4.7 Kwh Kwh is Kilo-Watts per hour. Throw out the "per hour" thats the billing portion. So 1.2 Kwh is 1200watts this is how i understand it. So 4.7 Kwh is 4700watts for the house so: .5 Kwh before woofer - 4.7 Kwh woofer going = 4200 watts to a 12ssd. Not for very long but thats a lot of power IMO left coil was the socket'd burned felt pad

ssd re-cone
Woo another FI its a 12ssd with dual 1ohm coils. I would like 2 ohm copper coils. zip is 93722 Fresno, CA be honest, is the centering of that coil rocket science. i have seen it done, but what kind of tolerance are we talking? How do you senter the dust cap and make the glue pretty/even? I would hate to screw it up. Can i used the black CA glue? It is a ton of work to send it to you guys to have it done there? Can i have a price on that also. the sending shipping is going to suck i imagine. thanks

ssd re-cone
I am waiting on a reply from Nick. I don't see to many people reconing an ssd. How much is a recone kit for an ssd. I need to change to D2's instead of my D1's. I picked up another Zapco Studio 500 and need 4ohm a woofer. Can it have the copper coils and or the flatwound coil on this go around with a stock motor? Is it a kit or just a cone? you know, does it come with glue and shims to locate the coil in the gap, thats sort of stuff. thanks

Adding a cu. ft. to my box
thanks for the replys. Yes I am happy with the loudness. You are correct I am cosidering just adding to the volume with the same port. I do know that 1000w is a little on the soft side as far as power. It does have the potential to do almost 1400w max judgeing by the 90A of fuse and the car running at 15.2V (thanks Chris @ MLA) Here is my delema, My wife remembers my old VW bug in 1994 that had (2) Pyle 15's in a sealed box with a Linear Power 1001 (200watts mono) on each woofer. It had a lot of "impact" She keeps reminding me how Tool - Undertow album use to sound. I have not be able to match that yet and my equipment is aton better than it was then. Most people say "it was a bug, thats why" My current ported box in my bird is a little soft, all though its loud and plays a tone really nice. I have considered doing the largest sealed box I can do on them, hopefully to pick up some impact. Which in my mind could "fell" louder to a person. I listen to a lot of heavy rock and double bass is muddy IMO. lets hear your thoughts. heres the box - its sealed off from the trunk. thanks

Adding a cu. ft. to my box
I am running (2) of the 12SSD's in a ported box at right about 4 cu. ft. net and its tuned to about 32 hz. power is rated Zapco 1000W if I can get another cu. ft. What can i expect in the characteristic of the box? More efficent? more boomy? I do not want to make it sloppy, it's already ported which is a trade off for me to begin with. Or I might consider the max sized sealed box. How would you compair that to my existing ported box? thanks

My Q puked out a metal chunk
what is the big chunk of aluminum that came out? What's it do?

BTW what were you guys playing in the hummer for the Demo?- Ported and tuned to 33hz now.... how about 28hz
i used the RE box calculator to check what i had and then the see what i would need in port length. it seemed ok on that calculator- Ported and tuned to 33hz now.... how about 28hz
I have a ported box now but i thought for fun i would change the port length to get me a tuning of 28hz. Becuse of the lower tuning will that do anything to the efficenty of the design? Would be audibly different while playing? I thought it would drop lower when i put it in from the begining. thanks- AA Future
If you ever need something out of the norm ,like a t-bird - hit me up. I am not thhat loyal to Zapco- AA Future
I got to hear the Hummer at SEMA and meet Scott. That thing is crazy. I left a little spit on the dash accidentlly, I knew the hit was coming but I didn't know how loud. I did notice that the Hummer was gone, even though it seems to be grid locked in place. If you want to leave, or don't want to, I guess if you play your stereo loud enough and they will make a path for you to exit. on a funny note, my buddy and I were talking after me expierence and he jokingly said, "Can you believe it was only one 10" Meanwhile some goof walking by said "really one 10". Idiot. It was comical.- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
I have not had a ton of listening time yet but they are louder and tighter (in this box) then my old (2) JL 15w6 in a sealed box. I like them, or i would have got rid of them right away. I think people will be inpressed from an LSQ stand point. its not the loudest out there and there might be tighter in the SQ arena but they are nice and well rounded in this set-up for a large variety of music.- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
got the grill all bent up and painted today. its hard to tell in the pics but it matches all the plastic in the car.- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
persistant arent' you. Unless you have a t-bird 89-97 i would build it like a regualar box and not to these dimensions. the specs on volume and port are in the first post. otherwise all outside dims. 39"wide 12.75" tall 19.25" deep @ top 25.25" deep @ bottom port is 4.375" wide- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
painted can't wet sand and polish it until tommorow.- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
another - now off to primer- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
got more work done tonight. Ready for primer in the morning. adding some ostrich inserts to the box front. since the middle of the seat is missing- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
got my seats back today. They are pretty good. I need to put some time into the speaker cover fitting better and flush. the speaker cover is just primer now and will get a few small ostrich peices to coordinate with the rest of the interior they wraped the the inside of the opening in tweed and it was suppose to be the vinyl, they liked it better, should have asked me, i wanted it dark againist the paint.- Got my (2) ssd12 box designed
got the center foam attached to some 1/4" peg board. why drillholes if i can get it with holes in it. I really don't plan on useing it but i have it if i need it. Suppose to meet the upholstery guy Sat. to talk about it. in the second pic you can see the metal i drilled holes in andweled to the frame so the upholstery guy can hog rinf the upholstery inside the opening - AA Future
