  1. Still working on her! Got the engine all fixed up, just need to put my car on a frame straightening machine. (If that's what they even call them) Frame is a little bent in the front, and it caused everything to shift over a little bit...Straighten the frame, get a new front end and fender...throw some paint on, and she'll be good as new. Once it's all finished you can expect to see me finish building the box.
  2. Well it won't be happening anymore. Mines the Expedition. Head on going 40.
  3. Lol, yeah it's a nice program once you figure it out
  4. Thank god. Someone said aim for 20inches of port area per foot earlier, so I'm sitting here for like an hour trying to design a box that would meet all of my requirements and i couldn't get it to add up right. lol I think I'm going shoot for 8-9 cubes at 34 hz
  5. how much port area per foot should I be aiming for when designing this thing?
  6. Is 12 cubes overkill for an 18 when trying to achieve max output?
  7. Here's yet another idea. 8.08ft^3 tuned to 39.87 Hz. I've never heard an 18 tuned to 40 Hz. I want it to be loud. Is it suitable for daily driving or do you think 40 is too high? And regarding the bracing, it's going to be double .75 inch MDF all around.
  8. Lol MDF isn't free
  9. I don't care how it looks, just needs to sound good haha.
  10. Love the look of kerfed ports. Very nice.
  11. Here's another one I made. 8.94ft^3 @ 35.97 Hz - 105in^2 port area.
  12. The gap between the back wall and the end of the port is equal to the width of the port (5.5 inches)
  13. There's no particular reason for the port being there other than to make this easier to build lol. Should I move it?
  14. I have an RE Audio SX 18. I've heard rumors that this sub can do 2,000 watts RMS fairly easily in the right box. I currently have about 500 watts going to this sub in a 10ft^3 box tuned at around 30 Hz. It's pretty loud. I got pulled over a few days ago for having my music too loud and the officer said "Dude, you were shaking my car, what do you have back there?" Got off without a ticket . I wanted to step it up a notch so I just ordered a Hifonics Brutus BRZ1700.1D. Which does 1700 RMS @ 1 ohm. I designed a box with a net volume of 7.19ft^3 tuned to exactly 34 Hz. Sub up, port back. (My old box was sub back, port back.) For the record, this is going in a 2006 Expedition. The sub is rated for 1000 rms, and I want to push around 1300 to it. I want to this thing to be as loud as possible, will the box I designed impress me or do I need to go bigger? Thanks. Box uses double 3/4 inch MDF everywhere.
  15. Got-er-done! Sounds amazing! Very pleased.
  16. Alright thanks bro, sounds like that's the route I'll take. I'll take pics of the sub when it arives and post pics of the progress I make this afternoon. I want to get the box done asap so i can hear this thing tonight. But I want it to be done right too. Sorry for all the questions, I'm a perfectionist lol. So do you think corner braces will be necesary? This thing seems extremely solid as it is but I've never built a box so I don't know what kind of stress this thing may endure lol.
  17. Will wood glue work as a sealant? (on the bolts)
  18. The sub comes in today! The UPS tracking info says that it weighs 43 lbs. =) I'm going to go to Lowe's around lunch time to buy dowels for bracing and maybe a wire terminal. Kind of not liking the sound of putting a piece of plastic on something this big. Are there heavy duty and efficient looking alternatives to a plastic radioshack wire terminal? I heard steal bolts work good.
  19. Alright here's a sketchup. Would this suffice? The dowels are 2 inches in diameter. If I should add more braces, lemme know.
  20. I'll get 1 inch dowel rods. 2 runing from top to bottom, 2 front to back, 1 side to side?
  21. Yeah big box = big port. I called Rhino-Liner. $150 to spray it. Not happening. Any other suggestions for a finish?
  22. It sure is, pretty pleased with the outcome too. I don't think there is much that I could have done different. It was pretty fun, I finally got to use my pneumatic tools. The only thing that "went wrong" was I guess my pilot holes were a little to small because some of the corners started to split a little bit when I was screwing them together. Either that or it was the humidity. I fixed them pretty easily by filling the tiny splits with wood glue then leaving a clamp on the edge of the board for about 20 minutes. Seems to hold well, wasn't too serious to begin with.
  23. All thats left is to attach the top piece, which will be a pain in the ass. The sub comes in tomorrow, pretty excited. BTW: I'm 6 feet tall. This thing is huge! Perfect fit. About 1/8" of space on each side of the box. Box makes my 12" CVR's look like toys! Getting the box sprayed with bed liner sometime this week. We'll see. I'll post pics tomorrow with the sub in the box and let you guys know how she sounds!
  24. Ok I'm about to build the one I just posted, wish me luck!
