  1. Can't believe I didn't see this build before, looks good, I bet the front stage has enough low end
  2. Well that's a lot of heat lol I'm betting he was playing a lot of notes near the tuning frequency of his ported box.
  3. 2 Old MJ's tuned to 9 Cubes @ 33hz Did 139.2 64hz BR 133.2 @ 29hz Oh, off of 600w Total. That's it? Are you sure you had 600w or your tuning was correct? Seems awfully low...
  4. Thank you for this, it's awesome to see these kinds of measurements on the sub
  5. 146.3 db drag legal, sealed 6.5cf box for both subs, Earthquake PH-D3 amp running them. They don't get much louder past ~700 watts a piece.
  6. Unfortuantely building a box for the MAW's had been put on the back burners by some other projects I've been spending my time on.... bu I'm back in the planing mode I just did up some plans for a 2.5cf ported box with 54sq" of area tuned to ~35hz. Now I just have to go see if the box will fit into my trunk lol.
  7. Can't wait to see these badboys
  8. I don't remember how you're using yours... but 1.0cf. a MAW specs in at under 0.6 Qtc, which is a bit lower than I'm aiming for.
  9. Sorry to disappoint gents, but I dont think I can pull off a ported box 2.5cf @ 33hz with 50sqinch of port area mandates a port that's 1cf in volume.... I just can't pull off a box that big. Looks like I'll probably do a 1.5cf sealed box, should be very very portable at least.
  10. What are the specs on that box Mark? Port doesn't look that big for an SPL setup.... decent excursion though!
  11. Ideally yeah, but the CSS (read: Stryke audio) 15" PR has 3" of excursion, so I figure that'd do the job. Worst case scenario, I can squeeze 3x 4" ports in there no problem.
  12. If you really want to get technical, the box, not the car, would be powered by the MTX *shudders from memories of linguistics class* I was thinking of a PR instead of a port actually... but I'd have to do some real good measuring to see if I can squeeze 2.5cf in the trunk... I'd really like to do 3cf net instead of 2.5cf though.
  13. Damm lol I wasn't going to let the cat out of the bag until I had a box built, but since I'm at the risk of spamming with my 133 posts (vs. 289) I'll drop some details: The box will probably be made out of plywood to keep weight down, and will *probably* be a sealed box. It'll be going into my 95 saturn sedan that I'm building a new engine for (literally), and will probably be powered by an MTX 2150x, that should drop ~400 watts RMS @ 4ohms bridged. I'd like to build a nice fibreglassed amp rack, but I don't think I'll pull that off this year. I don't think I have enough space in my trunk to run a ported setup either, which is what I'd really like to do.
  14. I definetely recommend going more than 160sqin.
  15. I like the direction this discussion has taken
  16. The IXL likes the tube I can't do a 15incher though, it'd have to be a 12, preferably a pair
  17. Dammit I was planning on grabbing a couple of MAW12's and putting them into sonotubes for my new ride this year
  18. I think if you run them in a bandpass range rom 40-50hz to 80-120hz they'd do pretty decent. You shouldn't need more than ~50 watts RMS a piece to get them into overexcursion with that setup. I'd recommend running 4 of them if possible. Your can get your fronts to help out with bass a little bit too.
  19. Well the MJ18 has more cone area than 3x10's, and it also has more excursion than those w0's have as well. It will do pretty well in a ported box with 300-400 watts RMS pushing it.
  20. I grabbed the last one off of mark (thanks again for that Mark! )
  21. Oh yeah they'll work nicely in that IMO I ran 2.4cf sealed unstuffed, sounded good!
  22. yea...i mean, i wanted to go 18 an i have been braggin around skewl, "i am gonna get 18's!!" but when i realized, i had no idea of what they would sound like, (had a bad experience with cheapy woofers once, meaning <$200) i began looking around and found the 1000w p3 15's for $129, just a bit more than i was wanting to pay, i said what the hey, i trust my bro, no offense to you awesome people here at SSA, in his decision. i mean, they look good, those mj's, but by the time i am getting 18's, i will have a decent job, and will probably just save for LMS-Ultra's (BTW how many 18's could i cram into a '99 VW beetle? screw the backseat, i dont mind taking it out) i hate t ohave wasted yer times but i am a little apprehensive about a brand i have never heard of. thank you for understanding, sincerely, C.Spencer Haha the P3's are trash. Go look up some tests/reviews on them from people who actually know what they're talking about. The MJ's have astounding value, put out the bass and handle the power.... but it's not a big name brand.
  23. I'd recommend at least 150sqcm of port area. The squarer the port the better though, so though you can make the port the full height of your box (a usable 310mm assuming 20mm thick wood, for example) and ~4.8cm wide (31cm tall), you'd be a lot better off making it 20cm tall and 7.5cm wide. If you do go with a full height slot port, go with 200sqcm of port area IMO.
