  1. The 80 prs is one seriously awesome piece of hardware.
  2. For testing just take what? The alpine deck
  3. I am on Craigslist daily, people up here buy crap.
  4. I already have a headunit that was in my neon. Nothing extreme, just a Bluetooth receiver with basic functions. The amp I was looking at was on parts express. The same one that Alton used for testing indoors.
  5. I won't be using the head unit for power. I guess I will just have to wait to start testing unless I can find a used active headunit.
  6. I was looking at an amp bridged for 50 watts and to use my Deck as a source.
  7. Can I use the passive crossovers that you can buy from parts express?
  8. I was hoping that 50 watts for the one driver would be plenty.
  9. And I understood that whichever I chose would need processing in car. I just figured for testing purposes I could get away with minimal processing with low power and a sealed enclosure.
  10. Sean I had planned on something new. Do you still have your prs? I'm not against used if it's the right head unit.
  11. You guys are killing me, lol. I hues I figured this part of the process would be cheaper.
  12. I could always use a car audio deck of some sort for testing, it would allow me some eq functions and a crossover. I wish I held onto my eclipse Sq deck.
  13. Any suggestions on processing? Still selling that single din you had? I am fine with head unit based. I hate the Honda piece. I will do external processing if needed. Would it be hard to build crossovers for the test?
  14. Yea I saw it.
  15. Ok sean I am lost. I thought the first step was to buy the speaker to see if there was sparkle. So what in all do I need to buy/borrow for this test?
  16. Should I compare drivers eventually or just worry about the one. I figure I'll get the fountek for Christmas with an amp. Will the 7 band eq in iTunes be enough processing? I understand the lack of crossovers.
  17. Sweet chill. Pics soon?
  18. M5 is right about ignoring my posts about power and box sizing, it's a rather advanced topic and would probably result in something being broken. I have a few years aand quite a bit of experience, not to mention I was building boxes for competition with the understanding that I would most likely destroy the drivers. I was making reference to Hoffman ' s iron law. It's a good post to read, it might actually help you achieve your goals.
  19. The elements speaker isn't mounted to the door, it's mounted to the door panel. The speaker grill pops off and the plastic is right there. When I get to the point of sound deadening I will have a better idea of what I can fit. I presume that a 7 would be easy, and an 8 would require a door pod.
  20. Without rebuilding the door panel, 6.5" diameter. 4" deep
  21. Alton if you are interested in selling the stuff in the future that you tried out, PM me. I'll plan on buying the fountek sean mentioned with either the amp you have Alton or the Dayton dat1? I believe. Just so I am on the same page of thinking. What speaker formats are you thinking for the element sean? Full range and what else if anything?
  22. It could but it could also be the tuning of the box and what your ssf is set to.
  23. Yes well that is the trick. When you over power subs you stuff them in undersized boxes to limit their mechanical movement, which protects them from mechanical damage. After that you only have to worry about thermal damage which is easy enough to combat, when you start smelling things you turn down the volume.
  24. I think you should be fine with the large box, just set the gains appropriately and avoid the mechanical limits of the sub.
