Got some more work done on the truck! Both back doors done! Just have to add Rammat on the passenger front door (to completely seal my panels ) then I'm going to go over it all with spectrum again So all in all the inner skin of the front door will have 2-3+ layers of Ram, coat and a half of spectrum, another half a layer of Ram, another layer of spectrum, and a layer of ensolite Pics are on my dads cam I will get some up tomorrow

Blowing a Speaker
Ok, lets dispell some myths about speakers. I figured we could have a small list of the different ways you could "blow" a speaker and have a little technical explanation to go with it. I also want to talked about clipped and unclipped signals and thier effects on a speaker. Ways to blow a driver 1. Degrading of materials This one is plain and simple. Speakers get old. Typically when a speaker gets old the surrounds go first, especially in stock speakers. most surrounds are made of a foam or rubber and time, heat, sunlight (common in dash mounted speakers) cause the materials to degrade, and then when you play them again they fall apart. 2. Thermal Limits of a driver When a driver is given too much power the voice coils can be burned and ruin the driver 3. Mechanical Limits of a driver It certain enclosures and with a low enough frequency a speaker can reach its mechincal limits, which is commonly known as "bottoming out" the driver. If this happens enough the driver can tear itself apart Clipped and Unclipped signals Does a clipped signal kill a speaker? If you give a 1000W speaker a 100W Square wave or clipped sin wave will it tear the speaker apart? Obviously my answers arent' the best so, I'm leaving this open to all to elaborate on. I am at work right now and can't be typing too much . If you answer one of these tell which one you are answering and make a good consice set of statements, and then I'll edit my original post. Also any other good questions are welcomed!

Welcome to the IHoP
Harrel had a total of -14 rushing yards ...with 6 rushing touchdowns

Welcome to the IHoP
And for the record Tebow had a little over 100 more Rushing Yards than McCoy... McCoy had over 1000 more passing yards than Tebow and completed his passes over 12% more of the time

Welcome to the IHoP
Yeah Mccoy must have rushed for over 550 yds in the pocket....

paleease Tebow didn't show up till the second half, but Sam Bradford never left the locker room. He would come out for a pass or two then leave. I'd venture to say that McCoy played better than both PS- and just because a team with a good QB beats a team with a Heisman QB doesn't mean that QB should have won Heisman

Rounded sounds a lot better And again I know there are plenty of ways to make your HU (source) signal clip, but for the sake of the discussion it is an unclipped signal And for my question there was really no gains set. It was just making a theoretical question and decided to use an actually amp to make it easier to relate to. I remembered ///M5 saying a long time ago that getting a new HU soley for higher voltage pre-outs was not going to make your system any louder it will only make you turn down the gains on your amp. All of what we discussed proves that theory... Could this quite possibly have been a test?

Wouldn't the wave being flat on top be clipping? I also don't think that sin waves are "pointy" That is why I said to assume the signal coming from the source is not clipped Nope, no test. Sometimes Supermods don't know everything despite what our spiffy title might lead you to believe , but I was looking for a good techinical answer and I figured I'd make it public on the forums for others to see.

Amplifier Gains and Preouts
Ok, so lets take for example the Sundown SAE-1200D. 1200W @ 1ohm and an input sensitivy ranging from .153V to 5.6V. For everything in this post lets assume no clipping of the audio signal from the source unit and say the source unit is putting out 3V from the pre-outs. What is going to happen if you turn the gain knob "up" (as in toward the .2V) after you have matched the gains of the amp to the sensitivity of your source? I assume it will not put out more power. Will it begin to send the amplifier into clipping?
