Got lens.... OMG photos!

Looks like I may have got my shipping woes mostly fixed. The lens got re shipped and look like it may make it today! The phone went to Colorado then back to the my former post office in Kansas. I called them and asked if they could redirect it to me. Being an awesome small town post office they did it no problem. Camera came in. It has a higher shutter count then I would have liked but the price was right and it looks brand new.

You can't force your kid to be a Vikings fan Sean. If he's a Giants fan you have to accept that. If he's a Cowboys fan you need to kick him out of the house.

I was going to say that I need to keep my wife on it because she may have some eye issues down the road but it looks like they don't cover jack other that eye exams and contacts/glasses. $200 a year in premiums for $20 exam copay and $150 contact allowance or lenses with decent frames. $270 a year when adding a kid.

My dental triples with a kid but my vision is just an extra $70.

Trying to decide if I need to get dental and or vision coverage for my little girl. My medical covers routine eye exams and accidental dental injury. I'm pretty sure any eye problems at this young wood be considered medical. Don't want to under insure but definitely don't want to throw away money.

I am so freaking frustrated right now with my items shipping. (The Good) Camera - Fed Ex - Will be delivered tomorrow (The Bad) Wife's Phone - When I submitted my order I realized that Swappa used my PayPal address, which is my previous address. I literally noticed this as I hit the purchase button and even tried to cancel the transaction. I immediately contacted the seller AND Swappa. I eventually got a reply from the seller saying it had been fixed. Fast forward to Friday and the phone arriives in my old town and is now listed as forwarded. Meaning I have to wait 7-10 days for it to get to my forwarded address, which is my mom in law's place an hour away.... Lens - After watching my lens go from Millersville MO to St Louis to Hazelwood MO BACK to St Louis BACK to Hazelwood and then finally returning to Millersville over the holidays I contacted USPS who said the destination was not my house. I talked to the seller who called the post office. Turns out the package was misread by the PO which sent it bouncing around... yay.

Ordered everything right before the weekend so the holidays really slowed things down.

Impatiently waiting for my camera. The lens went from one USPS location to another and then back to the original so I'm getting nervous.

I broke down and bought a smart thermostat. I got an ecobee 3 for $185. My energy company has a special energy savers program where I will get back $150 this month then $30 every September. Almost a no brainer except they do have the ability to bump your thermostat up 1-2* during peak usage (day time) but you can immediately bump it down when you want.

Thanks, I'm looking at getting started guides to at least understand how to use it. And I'm also looking at different videos of people explaining their shots. I'm trying to focus on people shoot portraits with natural light.

Also, if you can point me towards sites or YouTube videos to help me learn, please let me know.

Okay, with the camera on the way I have some shooting questions. Should I shoot in RAW always? I will have Lightroom, so I should be able to fix my white balance mistakes in post processing.

So no filter, no hood on the 50. I think I'm going to buy new. Too much uncertainty buying a lense I can't look through before hand.

One last question (who am I kidding). Is a lens hood important?
