well just like the topic title suggests i have a problem with my amp. i have 2 2400's and i strapped them to my FI BTL 18. one amp per coil. amps are stable to 2 ohms i have dual 2 ohm coils. now im pretty sure the amps dont truley strap together but they have the slave copy master switch to match gains and xovers well i set them up how the book said and it was workin but just didnt sound like i had 2 amps on the sub. so i started foolin with the switches. well needless to say i messed up onw of the amps and also blew my sub, both coils. now one amp is fine and works perfectly it was the master amp. the slave amp still works but when i turn the LPF up it makes a buzzing sound that gets louder the higher i turn it up. i cant hear the noise with it set to 10 hz but i dont want it set there. i usually go to about 60 hz and i can hear the noise loud and clear. and the noise is comin from the amp. i hooked it up without a sub on it and it makes the noise. so im pretty sure that the problem is deff the LPF, but how can i get it fixed? i brought it to a local electronics repair guy and he cant figure it out. will orion fix it? its not under warranty. any ideas on wut exactly the problem is? does anyone know of a place that i can ship it to to get it fixed? i live in louisiana, anyone know of some place close by? thanks to any info that anyone can offer.

i think its the bass from the song. not the song actually making a popping sound. it sounds like the voice coil is hittin the magnet, and i know that would be over extending the subs excursion limits, but why at higher freqs? i can understand at lower freqs below tuning but why above tuning?

im pretty sure its nothing to do with my being damaged or anything if thats wut u mean. i had this happen with a diff amp on my XXX 18. i now have a btl 18 and a diff amp. shooter, no thats not the song im talkin about, its on trap musik album

thats the sound it makes on mine. it only does it on bass above tuning. probably like 60hz or higher. my box is tuned to 31 hz. and its not every song, its not on sine waves either. theres a TI song that it does it on. it has some low bass that slams hard so i like to turn my sound up. but then theres this lil high freq punchy bass on top of the low bass and it makes my sub pop when i play it loud. i used to have my HU Xover set to 63 and my amp set to about 60. i recently changed them both to 50 hz, which is pretty good for rap but i listen to alot of rock too and 80hz sounds better on rock. so is it the box or the xovers? this also happened with my XXX 18. sorry im not tryin to jack ur thread, but this has been bothering me for a while now.

wuts cheaper. 2 1000 watt amps or one 3000 watt amp? if u keep two dual 2 ohm subs then that is the question at hand. i say keep the one u have as dual 2 and get the other dual two (now u dont have to spend extra to get it reconed) then just figure out wut amp(s) is cheaper. with either amp setup u would be feeding them 1000 rms each. i would imagine that 1 3000 watt RF amp would be cheaper than 2 1000 watt RF amps.

yeah marshall does live close by and i was gonna get him to do it, but i didnt think shipping was gonna be that bad, i just got a 65 lb yellow top sent to me for like 30 bux. but i guess ill just get marshall to do it.

thanks chris and nick. i deff unhooked the broken amp. im goin to see if i can get it repaired somewhere around here. i put my spare 18 XXX in and im using the good amp. i know someone that does recones, but i think ill let yall do it. how do i go about sending it to yall? do i need a RMA number? thanks

ok well the amp that i thought was burned up is actually not completely burned. the xover must be messed up though, when i turn the LPF up to about 60 it starts to make a humming/buzzing noise. but when i turn the LPF down the noise goes away. also, my master amp puts out about 100v A/C on a 43 hz sine wave and the other amp outs out 24v A/C on the same wave while amps are strapped, it will go up to about 100 when i turn the LPF up to 60hz or above. anyone have any idea wuts wrong? and wut do i need to do to get a recone kit or get my sub reconed by FI?

well im pretty sure i blew my BTL today. i finally hooked up two orion xtr pro 2400's to it. and i think i blew one of the amps too. i hooked up the amps like the book said, set one amp to master and one amp to copy and the master amp would control the other amps gain and xover's. well when i turned it up it didnt sound like it was hitting harder than when i had one amp. in fact it sounded weaker, and kinda sloppy. and the coils on the sub were heating up fast. i could smell glue burning and the dust cap was hot as hell. well i changed the amps to gain and gain, they both have copy, gain, master settings on them, it was hitting alot harder now. so i was playin it for a while and i put it up real loud, voltage wasnt droppin much, and then, blah! the sub fluttered irratically and stopped playin. no sound wat so ever out of it. and now one of the amps makes a humming sound that gets louder as i turn up the volume. both amps turn on and arent in protect mode. i checked A/C voltage at the speaker terminals of both amps, one was doin 13.5 volts and the other was doin 106 volts. the one humming was doin 106 volts. needless to say i need a recone. hook me up scott [email protected] anyone know of a good amp repair guy? we have some down here but i dont like their work. thanks

yeah and lil matt did that with a stock elec system too. it was a 30 sec sine wave, 43 hz.

i do rev the engine to about 2K rpm my voltage still drops and beleive it or not the rpms drop when the bass hits. and yes i did charge my bat before the comp, only becuz its hasnt been holding a charge lately. i only have one yellow top under the hood. the second one was borrowed at the comp. oh and as far as port wars goes, this was just a lil local comp, the guy only had two classes, legal and outlaw/portwars. ive been trying to get the guy to separate it all but hes hard headed only the legal class was separated by sub size. portwars was an open class. and he limits the rpms to 2K i know i cant do big numbers legal in my truck especially with a box tuned to 31 hz. it also has alot of area, so thats y i ran portwars. i hope this thread dont get moved.

just wanted to let yall know how our lil car audio club did at a local comp this night. we almost swept up the competition but we wound up taking 2nd, 3rd, and 4th we were all in portwars/outlaw (weird classes) second place was my buddy murk with a single RE MX 12 on an orion 2500D stock alt and bat. with 160.8 third was my buddy robert with a singl 15 BTL fully loaded on an orion 2500D stock alt and yellow top 159.9 fourth was me with a sinlg 18 BTL fully loaded with an orion XTR pro 2400 200 amp alt and 2 yellow tops 159.2 (we all played 43 hz tone) first place was some guy with a wall of 4 L7 12's with a 162.* another guy i knew won the legal truck class, with a single 12 Q on an orion XTR pro 1000 stock alt and bat 139.* i must have some major elec problems because i couldnt keep my voltage up even with 2 bats. unless my alt is goin out. i did the big 3, anybody have suggestions as to why my voltage is dropping still? so anyway we tried to rep FI the best we could. scott, i need a big FI sticker, bout 20 inches wide give or take, how much for one? thanks for the bad ass sub.

ok well i just looked at a website with a T4 15 and it says that it has a 4 inch voice coil. isaw that the 10 has a 3 inch coil but the 15 doesnt. so im guessing you cant do it?

im not sure at all, its not my sub. im just trying to help out a freind. i thought it was D2 because i think he has it wired in parallel and his amp is only stable to 1 ohm. so it may very well be D1 but thanks alot scott, ill check and make sure that it has 3 inch coils.
