  1. cool, I guess I'm just paranoid about stuff thanks for all the help, I'll try and get a review up soon -John
  2. I have no clue what to do, but the chick on the main page is hot -John
  3. Out the Pound-Birdman & Lil' Wayne -John
  4. I'm still worried about the fact that the test tone may not be recorded at the same intensity as my other CD's, so when I turn my music up to the point I tuned the test tone to, it's actually over what I tuned it for... get what I'm sayin? -John
  5. ^ Top -John
  6. Figured it out, thanks for all the help. I can't wait for it to break in, cause doesn't it get loud and smoother over time? Props to SSAudio for an amazing piece of work -John
  7. scratch my last comments, I figured it out and holy sh*t this thing slams. My head kinda hurts from the vibrations haha I just tuned it by ear by playing the 50Hz tone, turning the gain up really slow and at one point I could hear the sub kinda make a flatter sound than before, so I backed it off a little. I hope that is what distortion sounds like, I think it was cause it definitely sounded funny and not like I want my bass to sound. I played Hypnotize by Jeezy, and oh my god... this is definitely what I was looking for in a subwoofer -John
  8. I'll mess with it some more... I hate just testing stuff out cause I feel like I'm gonna blow the driver or amp just testing things out -John
  9. well I have the stock BOSE system, and turning the headunit to 3/4 volume would not be good... I listen a little under halfway mark when I really want it loud. I downloaded the test tone from some site, so do you think it's recorded at a different volume than what my music is? I know when I use a friends CD, sometimes they're quieter than my CD's. Is there any kinda store that will rent or let me use an O-scope around Austin, TX? I hate all this guestimating, I'd like to see what my amp is actually doing digitally -John
  10. I hope I'm doing something wrong, cause I'm not impressed at all :/ -John
  11. Here's some pics from another attempt. The second pic was the 50Hz test tone at the volume I listen at with the gains turned up real high I listened to some music that I always listen to, and it was as loud if not quieter than my single 10 was. I wired the sub just like this pic: I ran the black wire to the negative on one voice coil, ran a connecter wire to the other - voice coil and did the same with the positive, but I ran the main + wire to the opposite voice coil that I ran the - main speaker wire to, like the pic shows to do. I'm stumped, or maybe I just thought this set-up would be able to massage my seat a little... :/ -John
  12. see I tried it with the speaker wires in and not in and got the same values. Is distortion noticable? I saw the video of what bass boost sounds like when it starts clipping, is it going to be that noticeable to my ear? I was messing with the gain by ear and the sub was getting really loud, but still sounded good. I'm not sure how loud is too loud since i went from 250watts single 10" sealed to a 1000watts 12" ported. I'm scared to turn the gain up cause this system is nice. I'll play with it some more and see what happens. Having it clip for a few seconds wont hurt anything right? Like if I'm playing with it to see if I can hear it clipping, that won't hurt anything right? -John
  13. off-topic, what does the acronym 'iirc' mean? Can someone explain really quick the DMM method. I know I'm doing something wrong like I did last year cause I can't get the value above 6.xx volts with the gain maxed out. I disconnected the power speaker wire, left the ground speaker wire in... put the probes in the speaker leads... turned the truck on, played the CD. Is that the right method? I've got the DMM set on AC volts with the little sine wave over the V I know it's a brain-fart cause the same thing happened last year -John
  14. Awesome, and thanks for your service to this country -John
  15. The seat hit the amp with my first set-up which is why I moved it to the right side of the rear wall thanks -John
  16. I got one more question. I read that you need to leave the speakers hooked up on a class D amp when you tune with the DMM method because running them without a load can ruin the amp. Is this true? I just tried to tune it, turned the gain up about half way and only got like 5.xx at the most. I must be doing something wrong. I know the same thing happened with my last system but I can't remember what the problem was... I think it was something like I didn't have the prongs in the speaker leads when I turned the truck on and powered the radio on or something can anyone help me out here? -John
  17. I'm using the DMM technique and I got a value of 30volts using the equation sqrt(900Wx1ohms). Is that the right formula? It seems low since my last set-up was 31.6volts I know the ICON can handle more than 900watts and the amp can do 1113watts, but I'd like to only do 900rms for right now. Can anyone help me? also, what does the subsonic knob on the amp do? -John
  18. Finally done with the install -John
  19. I'm done with the installation. I've yet to tune the amp, but everything works so far so I'm happy I have all the knobs on the lowest setting, and the remote bass knob is all the way on minimum for now. I'll tune it tonight or tomorrow morning there's not a 'break in time' is there? I heard install it and let her rip... what do you guys think? -John
  20. I'm ready for the box to drop in, but it started raining so I'm gonna have to wait to set the box in. Speaking of rain, it's been ridiculous here in central Texas... I think it's rained like a month straight everyday, so the truck is dirtyyyyy -John
  21. quick question, my SAE-1000D doesn't have red or black on the RCA inputs. Does it matter on a subwoofer amp or am I just blind? -John
  22. yeah it had a nice channel for the wire built in quick update got the amp mounting and power/ground/remote hooked up. Now I gotta go under the hood and mount the fuse holder so I can get power to this and put the actual box in wish me luck -John
  23. large phillips head screw driver + hammer I just hit it with a hammer, that did the job thanks -John
  24. ok cool, thanks -John PS- any tips on the ring terminal question I posted earlier? I have no clue how to attach them without them slipping out eventually
  25. ok, so I'd cut the wrapping that's on the kicker wire (double twisted blue and black wire) and just use the individual wire to connect the sub in series, and then run 1 strand of wire like it comes and connect the master + and - on the sub to the + and - on the amp? The push terminals on the ICON don't look big enough to fit 2 wires in there so is there another connection or do I just make it fit? thanks for the quick reply, this install isn't going as planned -John
