Sean, I appreciate the advice here. As much as I love to want to prove someone wrong, you're spot on unfortunately. Looks like I need to steer myself towards building a portfolio based upon product photography and getting in with a firm. Either that or concentrate on project management, which is only certification and not a degree.

Classes would be something else to offer. As for employees, we have two local colleges that offer photography degree programs, and I know most of the professors. I would want their students or grads as employees. That definitely plays a large role. We have a good amount of tourists, many of whom pay out the ass for fishing charters, dolphin watching, etc. They would be a large target in my 'rentals' category. I see this a lot as well. I try and network everywhere I can. J

It certainly wouldn't be easy. I was looking at it with the idea of carrying DSLR and mirrorless. Thinking SOLID printing services, rentals, and in house studios could make it sustainable by allowing for lower pricing on gear purchases in order to keep in closer competition with online. I'm honestly happy to ready your opinions. It helps keep things in perspective. I'd be lying if I said it didn't take the wind out of my sails though. That being said, opinions like this make me start thinking about other ideas. J

Damn multipost. As for the education, I can see the application of both. The MOL having a concentration in entrepreneurship I can see being very helpful in the previously mentioned dream. As for PM, I can also see that as a good fall back. J

I do have a question for you guys. I'm currently working on my BS in Management and Organizational Leadership with a focus in Entrepreneurialship. Earlier this semester I took into to project management, and had a professor pull me to the side and ask why the hell I'm not in PM. As he put it, 'you present accurately, smartly, and with more balls than most people with 5-10 years of doing this. Honestly this was one of the 10 best projects I have ever seen presented, and top 3 of all students. Will you please consider switching to PM?' As for his background, he has his Doctorate, has been a professor for 10 years, was a PM with waste management for many years, and is also a USMC Veteran. This honestly stuck with me, and I'm really debating it. Depending on how much additional school I would need, do you guys believe the juice is worth the squeeze long term? Would the BS in this area be worth more long term, and offer more opportunities? i still dream of owning my own shop, I just know that at this moment in time, it's not an option. I want to plan my backup accordingly. J

Mind sharing some info there?? I'd like to get to that point, and whileI understand a decent bit of the info, it's not enough to make the most solid decisions. As Aaron said, what can we do to help? I'm not on much but always happy to lend an ear. I also have a couch you are more than welcome to crash on. J

A few websites s ll the,. Honestly I am hoping to find one in a second hand shop or at a yard sale. I'm also going to boost my budget when the last grant hits this week. 100 a pop is limiting me to first act, or bullshit strats mainly. I want a few more unique pieces, and some more higher end looks. Bulk strats would be great for a secondary series I want to shoot. Wish I had someone at Fender, Gibson, or Dean...... J
