  4. My doc and post-doc will be done and I'll be pretty picky when it comes to finding a new job. Where I am now is great and do not want to leave, but with a post-doc I will be able to earn and do more at a different institution. I'll look to the states if I cannot find the job I am looking for in BC. Lots of factors will come into play - housing price, commute distance, population, etc. I would be limited to Kelowna, Vancouver, or Victoria. Generally speaking, there are many nice places in the US that are more affordable than living in Vancouver. I couldn't agree more. Name change to Dr. Canada? J
  5. Whats the deal with 2011?? and steve what ya want that u cannot find in BC? J
  6. well back to the "field"...............field to this unit is a fucking joke J

  8. There were only 50 blue coned Icon's I believe (less then 100 actual production Icons made I believe). I have one 10" that is mine mine mine! Mark might have one last blue Icon at his house, but I am not positive on that one. i have a blue ICON!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee i gots 4 J
  9. That is ridiculous ... the people serving coffee and doughnuts at Tim Horton's here make that. The janitors at the school bring home just over $2100 a month and have full benefits. I also have full benifits. full health (takes about 3 weeks for a refferal if they don't have it on post {optomety, maternity}), dental (i prefer to have it done while overseas by the Navy or Air Force), and vision (off post). They also give us a Commessary (big ass grocery store with almost anything u want), and a PX (think walmart with playboy, gucci bags for the women, and cheap stuff but shit automotive). The prices at both are usually about 2-30% less than in town depending on item. the only real "rape" per se is gas and smokes. Cigs are cheaper off post, and gas is only a penny or 2 cheaper a gallon if not on par with the cheapest in town, and its not really that...........great. J

  11. Frankly, for what you guys do, a mere check for a couple hundred bucks is an insult Hell, their paychecks are even more insulting. "Mrs. Smith, I regret to inform you that you son has been killed in combat. Here's a nice pin and a properly folded American flag along with a traditional military burial. Thank you." i hate saying this, but... our military is all volunteer. these folks knew going in they weren't getting rich, might get shot at and would have to do this for a nation of people who might not appreciate them. and while that might be wrong, they still volunteered. not making excuses, i feel as though the goverment, as well as the people, owe these folks a great debt. but facts are facts, and they did volunteer. don't forget, that once they get in the civilian sector, they are given some perks. not too mention some good benefits while in, they have some good ones while out. after they serve, and god willing, they are 100%, they can damn near write their own paycheck. of course that depends on their field choice, if they followed up with education, etc, etc. but they will get extra points for whatever they are applying for due to their service, as they should. don't get me wrong. they service they provide, the duty they do, the manner in which they do it (seems like our boys/girls are always handcuffed in combat one way or another. why do we have to play by the rules when the other side doesn't even acknowledge there are rules in the first place??) and the qualtiy that they deliver, they definitely deserve more then they get. no arguement there. all we can do is voice our opinion in the elections by voting in people who actually support the military, and ever little thing we can do for the service folks here at home. i ride in the patriot guard. we escort both homecomings and funerals, and play barrier for those idiots who want to degrade our heros. it isn't much, but it's something, and it's something i'm proud to be part of. ok, enough rambling. sorry for the book. to j, helo and whomever else on here who serves,....thank you. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Kent you have alot of very good points. The problem is alot of us are not coming back 100%. Think of the people with Nam flash backs. Well alot of us have them too but they are different and in some cases VERY extreme. I would like to thank you for riding in the patriot guard. You guys standing by us and helping make our welcome home a little more enjoyable is very appriciated and is not something we take for granted. I know here about 90% of the patriot guard riders we have here are vets themselves. Also to the whole "write your own paycheck" gig. Well as you said its based on field of choice whilse serving, and amount of education recieved while in as well. Alot of us are doing our best to get college completed, but with deployments and not knowing in the location you arrive to with have internet for school makes it even more complicated. Add in field time, training, and other shit and it can be a REAL hassle and many of us opt not to bother. J
  12. u wanna buy my alt man? If so I'll gladly drive to Pheonix for it. Hell i'll even buy dinner afterwards ROFLMAO
  13. Had no motvation to do my minor cleaning tonight. Fiancee went to lay it down early so i figured why the hell not. Got it done and now I am back

"Mrs. Smith, I regret to inform you that you son has been killed in combat. Here's a nice pin and a properly folded American flag along with a traditional military burial. Thank you." I appriciate the sentiments guys. I'll be for real here when I say I am not the model soldier. Far from it. I have an attitude that needs work, and i still have alot to learn about my job and about how my job runs in this Battalion (think like mid level corporation). I will say this tho ryan1, the people the soldier names on their life insurence gets their shae (or all of) half a million if killed while deployed. While this in NO WAY is even a drop in the barrel of what the familes should recieve IMO it is something. Only costs us 26 dollars a month. To me its 26 dollars well spent. Espcially with the 400k to the people if you should die anyplace else. They also are improving on death notification to next of kin. We are far away from the taxi and telegram from the Department of the Army as was standard in WWII and Nam, and it is now practice to have a General grade officer (General or above) a chaplain and another soldier there to notify the next of kin, and to assist in ANY way with the families needs in this very stressful time. And with u mentioning pay, without being married i gross about 2k a month, and only bring home around 1600. Makes my hobbies very difficult to keep up with. Hell as it is i am contemplating another trip over seas for 6 months to get the tax free money and some time away from the battalion I am in now. Any questions u guys got PM me or post for me to see and all to share. J

  22. It is actually rather simple. You just need to finally choose to not be a smoker. Mental control ftw. On the other hand, I'd also say quiting is really, really easy. I have done it at least 100 times But the mental decision is the only method that worked permanently. 14 years behind my belt Unfortunatly without the woman here, the mental decision is damn near impossible for me. J J, I have to disagree it has nothing to do with the woman. Either you want to be a smoker or you don't. I am not saying it is easy, but once you choose differently all you have to do is stick with your choice. No ass makes quitting smoking alot harder. J
  23. Good points man...........I still want a 149 on the windshield J
