  1. Some things are being addressed that won't be shown until production is ready for resale. The changes being made may shed a few pounds from it, maybe. I will say I am concentrating on making it as efficient as possible, keeping BL as high as possible through out the suspensions usable throw. Things I'm doing will... 1) increase sensitivity 2) increase cooling 3) reduce motor noise by addressing superposition (google it. Not going into detail) This will be the best possible high output driver I can make using a 3" coil and the current soft parts avaliable. It should need around 2,500 watts to reach 35mm one way. In recommended boxes.
  2. They are out their damn mind. That product cost no where near that much money to make. I should know.
  3. You've graduated to big boy status.
  4. Either the sub or LOC is out of phase. You can tell by the way the sub is behaving. Although it would have been much easier to hear without music dubbed over the video. 1) turn radio up 2) turn bass knob up 3) unplug one side of the rca from the amp 4) look and listen to see if the sub moves more if not the sub needs to be removed from the box (if you only have one wire coming out the box) and make sure the wires are not backwards on the sub. DO NOT keep playing the sub before you check this out if it is out of phase you risk burning the coil up.
  5. That would be 4.42 gross before sub/port/bracing/walls... Not a ton of room. But still a workable amount. How much airspace do the DSS ethos 12's need? I know Q has it posted in his thread on them. Should definitely check them out. 1.5 net per sub. Could be squeezed down to 1.25
  6. Really only tested to ensure BLx was linear. The top plate ID's on this sample is about 3mm too big FS. 24 Qts. .49 Vas. 190 liters These will change with the increase of BL but so far it's a good starting point. The final driver may use a 12 layer coil as it will need ~3.5-4k to reach ~50mm one way Xmax on the new soft parts I'm having engineered. I have someone testing it. If they don't burn it up I'll keep the 8 layer coil. The final driver will have faraday rings between the gaps on the pole and an aluminum pole sleeve.
  7. He and Brittany are good friends. (My ole lady is also deaf). He was talking about your truck a few months ago.
  8. Best of luck finding a better job J. With your skills you should be solid. Thanks man. Sadly now skills aren't cutting it the way a degree does. So many businesses seem to hire these 22, 23 year olds with little to no experience who have a degree, versus the 29 year old with 10 years experience. I need to figure school back out. J Guess they figure they trained the 29, 10 years ago. Why can't they do the same thing to the 20 year old and save 10 or 20 grand a year in salery instead of paying the experienced 29 years old.
  9. Do you have a buddy named David that's deaf?
  10. For comparison below are BL curve, symmetry, and inductance curve of the Ethos 15. Although it is a good driver it still has the non linearity of a standard overhung driver. Compare the graphs to the Magnetar above.
  11. Klippel testing was performed to verify BL linearity. Testing came out good but I'm gonna try a 12 layer coil before I proceed with production. The current coil is 8 layer flat aluminum with 50mm winding width. This coil will work fine with the current soft parts limiting the driver to ~35mm xmax which will take ~2,500 watts rms to hit. However when I get my new soft parts made allowing ~50mm - 55mm one way xmax it will need ~3,500 watts to reach xmax and I'm not comfortable using the current coil with that much power. Below is the BL curve. It is prematurely cut off due to hitting suspension limits. It should remain nearly constant to 37.5mm. Still with the current soft parts there is a loss of less than 10 percent BL to ~25mm. Below is coil offset. Extremely linear to 25mm sown by the red line. Below is suspension offset. Again extremely good Power compression displacement. again limited by suspension Inductance. Not too high but will be a bit higher with larger coil so faraday rings will be added. Again extremely linear. So far I am happy. It just needs a little tweaking.
  12. Need to get set up on some of them government checks. They go out every 3rd of the month.
  13. More than likely black carpet.
  14. I highly doubt you will ever see a proper installation either. I've been in the 12 volt industry for 12 years and I have not found many competent installers. But it's not their fault it is the way the industry works. The average shop charges about 90 bucks an hour in labor. It takes me a good half a day to set up a proper infinite baffle coaxial install and I have over a decade of experience and a ton of tools and jigs for damn near ever vehicle prior to 2005. Now how many customers are willing to spend $500 plus in installation costs on a set of coaxial? It's just not gonna happen. Th loudspeaker cookbook is the best source for information. Period. There is no one else on earth that has designed, built, tested, and installed more product than Vance. Period. And the great thing about his books like any good author is he lists ALL of his references down to the page so if you do t understand or want to learn more about a particular subject the reference is listed right there.
  15. It's a baby bucket around 44 yards. The bigger ones run 65.
  16. preliminary specs in 5 cube box tuned to 32. These WILL change as I need to make the gap smaller to increase BL
  17. A ~8 percent loss of BL to 25mm one way ain't too shabby. Suspension hit its limits this is why it was only measured to ~26mm one way. When the production run comes in I'm going to get them to turn off the suspension limits and let it run until the spiders hit the basket.
  18. We used smith machine quite a bit with bands.
