Looks the original Tumult is back....
Oh what a blast from the past! I never got my hands on one, i got two Avalanches instead. The latest version to be coming out before Adire went under was going to have multi-layer top and bottom plates that way they could customize things easier. XXX had a much higher Fs...was car audio oriented... The Brahma and Avalanche were closer to a Tumult than a XXX was. Avalanche was to Tumult/Brahma like the Ascendant Audio Poly Mid was to the Extremis... almost as good for much much less. When I bought my Avalanches I went on Brian's reviews as I had my eyes on his Tumults for a while before the Avalanches came out... Avalanche was louder with less power at low volume, Tumult needed a lot more power to shine but when you gave it more, it did outperform.

Just bought a pair of Ascendant Audio 7" mids
I PMed Brian about 3 hours before you started your thread, put a smile on my face to see it So no tweeters to go with them, your current coaxial/components will cover that... you must just be adding more midbass?

do they still sell poly? I had four of the 1st run but they had a tinsel slap issue on the 1st batch, I took the hit on restocking fee. Now I need 10 polymids for my HT if theyre still dirt cheap like they were when they came out. Will you be running them with the Diamond Audio D3 500.4?

are these listed on the AA site? Do you still sell the polymids?

When will IB3s be available?
alright, I will take that. thank you for not kicking my nuts in. In fact, from here forward I should probably include a copy paste to every vid saying not to do what I do lol. I'm over the 22's, I sold 2 18's and bought four more... I wish i would have done that to begin with, but i learned quite a bit with one per tower... always a reason for everything Congrats on the new HT business, you guys just keep growing and growing!

Xcons: Infinite Baffle
You have to consider the environment as well. If we were talking about home audio, then yes a Qts of >.5 (ideally closer to .7) and a super-low Fs (<20hz) are pretty much mandatory. In a car, however, things are different. We get significant boost in the lower frequencies from the transfer function of the vehicle, and most times the trunk doesn't act as a "true" IB alignment. So we don't need the drivers themselves to generate flat response down to 20hz....the car helps us do that Generally there are two routes that work well for IB in a car.....low Q (< .4) and low Fs (~20hz), or mid Q (~ .5) and mid Fs ( high 20's - low 30's). If you go with a low Q/high Fs driver, then the low frequency response is rolled off too much. High Q/Low Fs (like home audio IB subwoofers) can work with appropriate EQ to tame the bottom end....with out it, they'll be too bloated on the low end. However, you have to consider how the airspace is going to affect the driver. Chances are you're going to get some increase in Q as a result of the trunk. According to Unibox, in a 15cuft enclosure with two 18" Xcons the Qtc would be .63 with an F3 of 43hz......models pretty well for mating with the transfer function of an automobile. Maximum output is the same as that of a sealed enclosure because peak output is limited by the same factor; peak linear displacement. So the output potential isn't any lower with drivers mounted IB compared to sealed. The difference is in the response curve. Sealed enclosures will usually have a little more output in the upper-subbass (above 40hz) due to the peak generated by the affect of the enclosure.....however, IB drivers will typically have more output in the lower frequencies (40hz and below) due to the lack of enclosure (a sealed enclosure is essentially a highpass filter, so if you remove that you improve low frequency response). So to say drivers mounted IB have "less output" is typically incorrect as you have to consider what frequency region is being discussed And maximum output potential is equivalent between both alignments. As for power.....don't apply more than is required Mechanical power handling is reduced for a driver mounted IB since it doesn't have the "spring" of the enclosure to aid it mechanically. Unibox says you wouldn't hit Xmax in a 15cuft enclosure with 3500w until 12hz......but I would focus on what personal experience tells you there. Long story short....go for it Just be careful, IB drivers are easier to overdrive. spot on! my simple version: you dont lose power handling, you lose power requirement. an IB sub is just as loud as sealed assuming the same FR responce. What changes is FR, a sealed box raises the midbass (depending on size) making it "louder" but simply EQin for the same FR would make it the same SPL but requiring less power to do so.

When will IB3s be available?
LMMFAO Yep.. You're one of those guys. sure am, but not because I use the IB3 in the wrong application, as I smash coils with every other sub as well. Ive never burnt an IB3 coil, I havent burnt a coil in 6 years....ever since I started having 4X RMS headroom and stopped clipping. If I never TermLab'ed the van Id never have bottomed those, and if I would have just gotten four 18's for the towers instead of just two to get me by for the 22's always "coming out in a couple months...just a couple more months" I never would have bottomed those either, as I havent bottomed the four new ones yet. I could put any one of your other eighteens in either of my setups and Id still bottom them, cause I always red line, always ride the line..and if you want to hate on THAT someday then youd be correct... and I could run your other subs in the correct applications with the exception of more power than I am supposed to and bottom those as well.... has nothing to do with the wrong application. But what do you keep bitchin for? I throw more money at you every time I break shit. You should be happy. I help pay your rent. And by "one of those guys" I hope you simply mean "turning them inside out" not calling and bitching, cuz Iv never called you and blamed you. I know full well I crank 10Hz sine waves for 10 minutes full excursion at tuning without breaking a sweat.

Im jsut glad I havent turned any of my IB3s inside out, sure Ive bottomed coils and had to recone several...but I always do that whether it's MOFOs, L7's, don't matter... when you ride the red line every minute, play 10Hz sine waves for 10 minutes, 5Hz sine waves.... stuff is gonna break. NEVER cooked a coil on one though.

The Last Samurai ready, aim, fire at will gatling gun gatling 2nd round canon fire 2nd, third, and fourth round canon shots The problem with Xmen Origines: Wolverine, is that it's LFE seems to be recorded low-level to begin with... I can watch the whole thing at -18dB master +12dB sub, or almost all of it at -15dB master +12dB sub... only movie I can do that with. On top of that, it seems HP'ed the only reason I have to turn it down on a cpl parts is the midbass/high bass is insane and kills my voltage. This movie is PACKED with ULF, packed with single digits. But it is at such a low level, and, much lower than the rest of the LFE. It is simply over run by mid/high bass. Im gonna post vids of the final fight scene where X11 has super reappearing powers... most of the movie is not like this, yet still very subsonic. The almost grand finalley Xmen Geart Stuff! black cowboyX11 (IDKY I keep saying top plate, not bottom) Xmen Great Stuff black cowboy X 11 v2 Xmen jus keeps on comin Xmen great ULF at beginning, then recorded way too long after Jim Jones ft. This platform grabs the ULF flop from the subs quite well, other than that this thing is totally unphased by four 18's and two 12" ports and people jumping up and down, back up, back down all day long day after day, but there's just one activity that always worries me so i finally had to do sumthin bout it

Thanks Edub, it makes it so much more fun bringing the family into it and teaching them how to run it as well. Glad you dug #55, over the years I've caught a lot of heat time and time again... I've gotten pretty good at acting like a child and lashing out, that was one of few times I think I habdled myself quite well shoulda picked up a PS3... wish i was a gamer.... I almost grabbed one anyway numerous times but I couldn't justify paying 3Xs for something I'd never use
